It’s also the fame they have to live with but you also pay for their reputation and branding. It’s all business and the better you are at your job the more you can make for your sponsor and investors and therefore the more their willing to pay to keep you away from competition. People can’t see that and always hate and say they should earn less than doctors but when you think about, how many people truly make it to that level. How competitive do you think it is to become an f1 driver or a footballer at Manchester or Liverpool. So I’d argue they do deserve the reward of losing their childhood to work and discipline.

The funny thing about that is that it's technically true, but actually a lot more complicated than it seems. Back in Vietnam the CIA was recruiting USAF fighter pilots to fly covert missions which were often in the very small O-1 Bird Dog -- basically a military version of a Cessna 150. Anyway, they'd pull these guys from the fighter corps, usually flying F-4 Phantoms or Thunderchiefs or a century-series interceptor and gave them little Cessna to fly. No problem, right? Well according to legend, it was always a treat for the crews when a new fighter jock was recruited, because they'd all line up along the runway to watch his first takeoff attempt, which was always entertaining as they'd invariably use exaggerated control inputs and bounce up and down the runway like a first-time student pilot. Of course they got the hang of it soon enough, but it always took a decent amount of re-familiarization.

Reminds me of the first time I drove a real racing kart. Spun the first corner. Spun multiple times during my 5 minute stint. When the track operator came the last time to push me out...I was so exhausted I told him to take his time. ...and that was just a kart. Driving a racing car is a physical experience...

I think this is the very first time I've ever seen Clarkston actually terrified by a car, I've seen him uneasy but this one he looked truly spooked. This is a car with so much speed and acceleration it see like it could break loose at any time and make your wife a widow. Car 1, Clarkston 0, oh well at least he's still with us all in one piece.

The problem with F1 cars is the tires and downforce are meant to work at the limit of the car. So if you drive it scared you won’t get any grip and crash. F1 drivers work their way up to this with karting < F4 < F3

Hammond did it alot better in a real f1 v10 😂😂😂😂

Watching them load Jeremy into that car is like watching my wife pack her suitcase to go on holidays. I'm surprised they didn't get May and Hammond to sit on him to get the seatbelts fastened.

It's pretty funny how this is Clarksons first go in a f1 style car but Hammond actually drove an f1 Benetton car on the top gear track so really Hammonds got 1 over on Clarkson😄

ANY car that can do a standard width, two lane rd 90° turn AT SEVENTY MILES PER HOUR has to be an unimaginable handful! I even saw Jeff Gordon one time on the F1circuit at The Brickyard show definite signs of WAY more endorphins than he is used to from just 3 laps when he got out of the cockpit. You could see dudes face just a beamin even before he even raised the shield on his helmet prior to removing it.

If anyone think this car lacks power in F1 terms, looking at different engine specs puts it in perspective! In in the first half of the 3.5 L era 640 bhp was very decent! The Ford-Cosworth DFR’s and the HB’s of 89/90, the Judd CV/EV, the 89/90 version of Lamborghini’s V12 all had less power! Also the Ford Cosworth ED (the cheap variant for small teams like Pacific, Forti and Minardi) of 95/96 had less or equal power! The 2.4 V8’s should be close to 750 bhp but I bet this engine has more torque!

that car is designed for one thing and that's race. you have to keep the tires hot and the brakes hot as well to get optimum performance. you cant just go from driving leisurely to racing at the drop of a hat

Clarkson in an "F1" is like a Giant in semi-pickup or Lorri as the UK calles them. He's Huge!!!
