@pitmie10 жыл бұрын
Correct. Sadly these days they make F1 slower than before...2014's F1 car with 1.6 litre V6 is around 7seconds++ slower per lap than F1 of decade ago (2004). Probably this T125 is nearly as 'slow' as current F1 car...
@somethingsomethinggr10 жыл бұрын
pitmie That's if you compare race laps which would be inaccurate since there's no longer refuelling and they race on full fuel tanks now. Compare the qualifying laps and the difference is around 3 seconds. Still too much though.
@craigozland10 жыл бұрын
MrBadumtish Not sure if I was clear with what I said. The Renault F1 that lapped this circuit on Top Gear is a lot quicker than this car. A lot more than 3 seconds. The track was wet when the Renault F1 did it's lap. Have a look at F1 times for that era car on wet and dry track and you will know what I am saying.
@craigozland10 жыл бұрын
Sorry MrBadumtish, I think I don't understand the flow of the name tags in replies yet.
@somethingsomethinggr10 жыл бұрын
craigozland My original comment was a response to pitmie's original comment about the comparison of the T125 to modern F1 cars. You do know that the car in this video is not an actual F1 car right? The T125 is a track car based on an F1 car that anyone with enough money can buy. It doesn't have an F1 engine or gearbox. It has a 3.5L engine with 640 bhp that revs just over 10 000 rpm with a 6 speed gearbox and can only do 186 mph. A current 1.5L v6 turbo F1 car would be faster than a T125 around a track.

Reminds me of a clip of Senna demonstrating his skills behind the wheel of a kart for a TV show in Japan. Thing is though there's a lot more to the current pace than that. Downforce is significantly greater at the front and rear than 04/05 era cars due to the change in regulations regarding height of the rear wing and the distance between the track and the front wing - the latter having a considerable increase in downforce gain. That said the miniature planes designed to funnel area and cancel out vortexes to improve aero efficiency are no longer allowed, same with double diffusers. It's complex!

That was meant to say funnel 'air' by the way! .. But yeah, weight regulations, gearboxes, KERS, DRS, exhausts, engine covers... There's vastly more to the per lap performance of the car than simply how much fuel, what size engine, and even the rev limit. Factoring in the different circuits it's easy for a modern F1 car to be faster in one sector than in 04/05 then slower in the next. Losing traction control doesn't make them slower either, it just requires greater finesse on part of the driver.

I noticed that we really didn't get a clear shot of the driver's hand positioning on the wheel (The one shot we did get was a bit too short to tell for sure). Jean Alesi had a very distinctive grip on the wheel. He used more of a 10-2 position rather than the more traditional 9-3. If it was Jean driving, showing his hands would be a dead giveaway.

@vonPelger The Renault did it on dry tires and there was a clear dry line on the track. A current F1 car which is slightly faster than the 2005 Renault would do it in ~57 sec.
