Jim, that was very helpful. I'm about to read the Faerie Queen for the first time, inspired by Camille Paglia's very impressive assessment of it in Sexual Personae. IN SUMMARY: she claims that without the Faerie Queen, British culture would have remained a provincial culture. Do you agree?

It's funny that Spencer chose Arthur to be a paragon of virtue, even though in the mythos he's not a very virtuous character.
