This is a slightly shortened version of the original programme.
If, and when, Britain re-takes the Falkland Islands, what should the government do to settle their long-term future? TV Eye reviews the options, from ensuring the islands stay British to seeking the help of the United Nations to settle the question of sovereignty. Reporters Liew Gardner, Peter Gill and Denis Tuohy.

Within the Reagan administration, Weinberger was by far the most pro-British figure during the Falklands dispute. (UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick probably the least). It was marked when he was made Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 1988 - a very high ranking honour for a non-UK citizen.

Weinberger was charged by special prosecute for Iran / Contra. A 6 year investigation. Bush pardon him right away, then they passed a law ending the special prosecutor statue. Dimorat's were still hurting for losing the cold war.

The Argentinians should have known that if it came down to them or the British, The Americans would take the British every time.

Argentinian Dictator Leopoldo Galtieri was a US trained soldier. He took an engineering course with the US Army's School of the Americas and graduated in 1949. The US backed him in his coup in 1981 until he invaded the Falklands. Not the 1st or last time the US backed a dictator they later regretted

Very Good in Galtieri's history but you forgot The UK also backed many dictators throughout history.

@@MrLaizard Actually, if the Argies had put in their regulars & delayed invasion until June, then the British would have most likely lost. However, they didn't & on the battlefield the Argies had their arse's well & truly reamed. 2nd best by a long way, sidewinders or nae sidewinders.

Literally done by every political actor capable of doing it. The great thing with the US is that, being a democracy the standards are higher and their acts can be openly discussed

Argentinian did not know how to use her airforce! the land-based jets were lacking the range to fight long air battles. Harriers broke their backs.

US assistance was the key. Sidewinder missile saved the harriers

@@josedro , the British bought sidewinder missiles BEFORE the Argentine's even invaded the Falklands; all the Americans did was speed up their delivery to British forces, from NATO stocks!.

@@Andy-yn6jl OH yes I totally agree with your point!!! Argentina also bought full paid 14 Exocet missiles to France. however received 5 uncomplete missiles While UK instantly got 200 Sidewinders Argentina got an instant international embargo and even refused Soviet Union assistance.
