The Fall of Classic Games: ROBLOX High School

This video really does a great job of explaining the reasoning behind these changes. Obviously in an ideal world we'd wanna keep the classic game fully open to everyone on public servers, but anyone who looks at it logically would understand that is simply not feasible. RHS1 was not maintainable anymore and was already dying in 2017, before RHS2 was even a thought - so we either had to make RHS2 to keep the series alive, or RHS as a whole would have just died right there and then. When the RHS1 public servers were still open to all players, the game was just used as an exploiters' playground. Almost every server would be ruined by exploiters, whether they flooded the map with junk parts, broke the school, or trolled and flung other players. Eventually we had to restrict the game to people who had 5+ hours playtime. This helped somewhat, but there were still issues since rulebreakers continued to use alts with 5+ hours playtime, so we later had to raise the restriction to 24+ hours to mostly put a stop to this. The people who complain that the exploiting was just an "excuse" were clearly not around for how bad things actually were before the restrictions were applied. Unfortunately, as mentioned here, the exploiting wasn't the only issue the game faced. Since the public servers were more obscure and locked down now, a small crowd of people started using the game for very inappropriate purposes, disgusting things I am obviously not gonna get into detail here. We obviously don't want *that* to be the game's lasting legacy, so unfortunately at this point we had no choice but to close down the public servers for good. On the bright side, anyone who actually wants to revisit the game can still do so on private servers without having any rulebreakers to ruin the experience. I don't want those people stealing the spotlight though. I do genuinely appreciate all the kind people who come back to share their good memories from RHS, it means a lot and it always brings a smile to my face when I hear from people who met their best friends in RHS

RHS was my favorite game as a kid, I spent all my time in there and work at a pizza place, (and also this game called beach house roleplay, which I can't seem to find anymore so I don't think it exists anymore.) I loved pretending to be in highschool and making friends and wearing my dream avatars (since I was a free-to-play cause I was like 9). nothing made me happier than logging on Roblox to go play it cause people used to be nice to me in that game, I have no memories of being bullied in it unlike other games, only fond ones and a wish to live one more day in the past again. it's a shame we can only have private servers now but at least I can have a sort of museum to look back on and relive my childhood for a moment. thank you for making Roblox High School. it was the best part of old Roblox for me.

I remember playing this a lot between 2013 to 2017. In fact, this was the main game I played in 2016 and 17. Met a lot of old ROBLOX friends there, and had some iconic Roleplays that I still remember to this day. Unfortunately nothing lasts forever in life.

One of the first games I played on Roblox back in 2015-16. I spent hours playing RHS. I’d come home from school to play Roblox on my iPad. I was 11 years old back then now I’m 20. God does time FLY. I was actually one of the few people who had a 24 hour playtime on the original game who could access it(only people with 24+ hour playtime were allowed to play the game). Not a lot of people knew that there was still a community but it was still strong and alive of about 100 players. It was one of the most beautiful and wholesome communities I have seen on Roblox, or even on any other thing outside of Roblox. All of us knew each other and everything was going fine until May 2024, there was a drama with one of the members(who we’ll call J) who did something inappropriate in game. The creator of the game, Cindering, decided to shut it down because it “wasn’t safe.” Again, this community was the best community I have ever seen so everyone was furious with J as well as Cindering because they destroyed something so rare and special. Everyone moved to a remake called Fixed High School but eventually random people outside of the community joined in and started doing actual unsafe and inappropriate behavior. Eventually Cindering found out and filed a DMCA and it’s shutting down in the same day this comment is being made. There is a dis server of the og 24 hour community and we’re working hard to convince the creator to compromise to at least bring back the original RHS for 24 hour players only.

The reason that nobody really cares that it essentially "shut down" is because the player base has changed. Most of the players from around this time period have moved on in life, and haven't played Roblox in years. They were replaced by the younger generation, who unfortunately only like minimal effort games that give them the biggest rush of dopamine, or at least the anticipation of it. They've basically had their brains rotted to the core by all this hyper stimulating content that's constantly shoved in their faces, to the point that all they seek is stimulation... and many Roblox "developers" are exploiting that to make "games" (they can't even be classified as such) which EXCLUSIVELY use addictive mechanics to attract susceptible kids (which is a lot because they're conditioned to want this).

I think it’s respectable that the games are going off on their own terms rather than trying continuously to postpone the inevitable fall. The game series has been on the Roblox platform for over a decade, definitely one of the longest lasting games on there! It had a great run and I’ve been honoured to be there for it all through it’s thick and thin. I would have loved to moderate RHS1 more, get rid of obnoxious players but it was completely undoable… it sucks that players had to ruin the experience for many people, at least if you want to play the game by yourself or with close friends it can still be a joyful experience- just not in the same way as meeting random people who also like the game.

I made as video recording the final hours of RHS. From what I know, only 1 other person recorded the moment. It is crazy really to see 50 people in RHS but to be honest I expected a little more. I understand why cindering wants to move on, though. He has worked on the RHS series for 10 years. Most games do not make it this far and have so much noteriety. Good job Cindering.

I remember joining Roblox back in June 2018. When I first made a account I was scrolling through games and I found Roblox High School. Roblox High School was the first game I’ve ever played on Roblox. I made a small friend group there. We didn’t last long but despite the drama that brought us down they were cool first online friends. I started finding other games, especially when the group broke up and I started to notice how other players weren’t as friendly (it was also around the release of Roblox High School 2 I think??) Somewhere in 2020 when I was bored I went back the game again. There were a few toxic players, though most of them in the server were also visiting back like I was. Someone was able to gather, including me, the whole server into the game’s auditorium. We where dancing and jumping on each other saying goodbye to to Roblox High School. In that moment we all declared ourselves as the Roblox High School Class of 2020. One by one we eventually left the game, I haven’t been back there since.

RHS was so good for it's time, it was basically a roleplay game with a bit of gameplay element to it. There were still things like meteor showers at night and coin gain from doing things like fishing. RHS2 did it's best to improve it, including making school a part of said gameplay. As much as it may ruin the original reason to roleplay with others since you cannot abstain from partaking in class without leaving the room, being able to play the game and then feel like a straight ace student feels amazing. Both games have so much to love, from nostalgia to basically just gameplay that either challenges your capabilities (like actual school does) or hanging out with others and friends and maybe doing some acting. They thought of everything and everyone and I am genuinely happy because of that

unfortunately rhs2 is imo kinda dead i used to play a lot but now whenever u join its either e daters or like anime furry very detailed roleplays which neither of these things are fun to me. i miss when it was just like actual high school role playing. unfortunately this isnt the case just for rhs2, for example bayside high school is full of e daters or 5 year olds and no one knows how to actually roleplay😭
