This was literally just the battle of Stalingrad except the defenders lost. It had everything: ‘hugging’ the enemy, brutal urban fighting, heavily outnumbered and isolated defenders, even supposedly-empty fuel drums near the command post exploding and turning it into an inferno (although IRL, Chuikov survived that particular incident).

Last ditch defense against overwhelming odds is common. History called the Japanese soldiers fanatics during the battle of Okinawa but had Japan actually beat the USA in ww2, they would be considered national heroes. Stellaris doesn't really do moral grey area unfortunately so TTI will have to do with simple Us vs Them setups. Maybe if the Khans are beaten, absorbed and transformed into valued part of the confederacy, this story will conclude on an interesting note. Some fictional warrior races are perfectly fine with integrating into a stronger power when beaten instead of opting for partisan resistance like typical human response but I don't recall vanilla Stellaris has that cultural option.

"What? Say again." said James as he tunes the receiver until he got a clear single. "Rayous is... Repeat,...s dead." The weight of the message took a moment to hit James. Slumping into his command chair. "After so many battles, after so many close calls they finally got her." Wiping the cold sweat from his face. "Only one thing left." Opening the hatch to his command tank he leveraged himself out. Once it was a mining tunnel but now it grew into a shanty town for the resistance. He walked through the mess of tents and dirty faces. Some looked haunted, others wept openly and many more wore rage. they must know the news. He passed Nicole, a young girl scout who picked up the rifle after the aliens stormed the hospital she volunteered at. Then came Naomi a merchants wife who's connections got them the arms and resources they needed. Law keeper Hector who lead refugees through the tunnels to safety. Yuri a street thief whos knowledge let them out maneuver and out fight the aliens. A many many more, solder, civilian, high, low, law keeper and criminal all made equal by the loss of their world. All left directionless by the death of their leader. Stepping onto a crate he looked what remained of the 1077 armed. A few but enough for what he had in mind. "Me... My sons and daughters of the 1077. We are tired, our minds are exhausted and our arms grow weak. But, here we stand the last children of Yost. I am proud of all of you. Everyone here has stepped above and beyond. All we could ever wish for is to spend our lives the best we can and these past months we spent it doing the impossible time and time again. You know the enemy, you know what they will do and you know they will find us. We can die squatting in a cave, we can die running or we can die with our heads held high. I know where I will die. I will die in Discovery plaza. Burning the memory of Yost into their skulls. So, when they tell the tail of the children of Yost they will speak OF THE NAMES OF EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD AS ROYALTY!"

Static filled the air as Bolivar awoke in his tank, his crewmates were all dead and the hatch above him torn open. He climbed out and fell onto the rubble covered street, he quickly stood up and drew his pistol. The sounds of gunfire in the distance directed his navigation and he began walking toward the sound. He rounded a corner and saw six Bantherian soldiers patrolling the street. He called out to them "Over here you bastards!" Before raising his pistol and pulling the trigger dropping two of the Bantherians immediately. The Bantherians roared in anger as they returned fire on the lone Antarian soldier. A shot pierced through Bolivar's shoulder and sent him falling to the ground while screaming in pain. The Bantherians closed in and stood over the wounded man. I hope one day I will be able to buy an album of those wonderfull pieces of art that are those graphics and pictures. The entire universe of Antares Confederacy is worth at least a book series. At the very least.

Honestly, the first thing I thought when I saw the title was a picture/painting, from my old malaysian history textbook, depicting the hopelessness of the defence of melaka in the face of the Portuguese invasion. Against the Portugese fleet of massive sail ships with multiple decks of hundreds of cannons, the navy of Melaka sailed out in canoes, armed with bows and keris (traditional Malay knives), armoured in nothing more than traditional costume.
@hafann3 жыл бұрын
Your 2nd statement is false. Malacca sultanate weaponry is on par or according to portugese record is even superior than them in term of gun smithing and some cannons. I'm too lazy to explain more but there's a lot of local and foreign channel who make a detailed video about fall of malacca sultanate and the truth behind it.
