One of the many many times I saw the Fall was at Norwich's Waterfront in the very early 1990s Before they went on, whilst waiting at the bar, I happened to meet bassist Steve Hanley. I complimented him on his stellar bass riffs, to which he remarked I looked like one of the male members of Intastella...a compliment, I guess? 😆

Oooh, I was at Reading that (and only) year. Camped in a transit van with my two flatmates Got and stayed very stoned and very drunk, didn't see/hear much of what was happening on stage, although I do recall making a token effort for the Pixies, didn't get laid, got home feeling poorer and none the wiser. 34 years later, I'm in a rehab. Happy days then and now, too many shit ones in between. So it goes.

It feels like every person who made me who I am is dying. The Fall are one of those bands that you can explore forever. I've often told people that they should love the Fall because everything they *do* love is brilliant because of the Fall. They're one of the most influential bands ever; without them, there's no Pavement, no Girls Against Boys, no Sleater-Kinney, no Sugarcubes, no Sonic Youth, no Beck... Oh, for God's sake, just listen to the Fall... RIP...

As I have said on many occasions, The Fall and Mark E Smith we’re the answer from the U.K. to The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed. Check them fully, similar but different vibe, a tasteful audience, odd but pertinent subjects in the songs and the fantastic use of variable but similar riffs. Perfect band and will eventually become part of the historical British music culture; listened to by a band of individuals clamouring for real quality music.
