I used to listen to this while walking my dog alongside a canal. I was in a bad place for a time, but it all came good in the end. I didn't carry it through. 15 years later and I'm finally happy. Just had a lump in my throat listening to this though.

30 November 2018. Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Fall and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.

Without British bands we may have been forced to listen to the black artists they were influenced by :P
@nickgee4612 жыл бұрын
@@nednedned89 Woke alert! What a daft, uninformed thing to say. As teenagers in the 60s we were well aware of those black artists and we listened to and loved them - Motown, R&B and those old bluesmen , all but forgotten in the States, whose careers got a huge boost because of interest from British kids and bands like the Stones who paid for some of them to fly to the UK to tour here. Champion Jack Dupree lived in Yorkshire for a bit marrying a local girl. The mighty Edwin Starr ("War" - what is it good for?) had a second career here in the northern soul clubs, loved it so much, and how accepted he was, that he settled in Warwickshire, and finally Nottinghamshire, where he is buried. Also you're ignoring a whole swath of artists with no discernible black music influence - Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, MBV and loads of others.

Julia Nagle's melodica transforms this into something gorgeous and wistful, better than the shrieking violin of the original. The whole band are great too and of course Mes. One of my fave Fall songs.
@vollsticks3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that's Lucy Rimmer...compare the lady on melodica with the picture on front of Light User Syndrome, pretty sure it's not Julia Nagle. Iirc she wasn't even a member at this time (which, by the return of Brix, puts this performance between 1994 and 1996. I see Dave Bush isn't here so I could narrow it down further with a bit of googling. Pretty sure it's not '96 'cause Karl Burns was back in the band then). EDIT: So, I have The Fallen book and Julia Nagle's picture circa 2006/'07 is in there. And I didn't think it looked like the woman on the front of The Light User Syndrome. But after having a second look, and comparing both pictures in front of me, it was obvious that the slightly older woman in The Fallen IS Julia Nagle. Lol, I dunno why Lucy Rimmer, who was basically a backing vocalist, would have been on the front of LUS. So, mea culpa! It is JUlia Nagle in this great performance, many apologies :)

The band is so tight here. What is that weird semi-acoustic bass the elder Hanley is playing? Give Brix a medal for tenacity, holding it down on a 12-string. What a trooper. The younger Hanley deserves a subsistence pension for life for his sterling efforts.

I just got around to hearing a bonus track from the comically large expanded edition of The Infotainment Scan. The track is called The Re Mixer and it is mostly a remix of The Mixer but with different Mark vocals in parts of the track.
