To me Lee &Kirby run will remain unbeaten. Yes Bendis & Bagley did beat it, but then they were not doing g what stan and Jack were doing, working on multiple titles and running a company. On top of that Stan making appearances and never really stopped. My type of era this book is. I Ordered the Adams edition and according to forbidden planet, London it is due this week with Vol 3. Happy days ahead.

In so many ways this omnibus symbolizes how Marvel snatches defeat from the mouth of victory. This is where Marvel and Jack Kirby ended a run that introduced some of the greatest characters to the Marvel universe, so many great adventures were part of the Lee/Kirby F.F. run. This also is the first omnibus with the new spine design, causing conflict with long time silver age Marvel omnibus collectors. I'll wait to purchase this omnibus, I don't like the motley spine look this gives my Kirby/Lee collection and I'm not about to repurchase the earlier editions.

If only the program they use to design the spines was okay with enlarging the title text the design honestly would look so much better and less of an eyesore.

You may need to place the camera closer to the book when you show the spine. Quite difficult to read it.

Well, as you're interested in Vol 5 coming out, I'm still hoping for a new printing of Vol 1 with the same spine design and missing character image at the bottom to come out. I've had for some time now the latest printings of volumes 2 - 3, so still hoping to add the first one, with the missing image of Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic on the bottom of the spine 😀

Brian M Bendis may have written more pages, yes. But how many long lasting characters or concepts has he created compared to these SA creators? Not even a 10% Yes, the system today does not incentivize writers to create concepts to give away to corporations. But my point remains, no comparison.

Only a problem if you have older versions of Vol 1-3. With 1-3 being reprinted with the new spine as well, getting them all together now I’m digging it.

@@LiteratureInPictures it's not nice at all what you're saying. People spent hundreds of dollars on the older editions. What if they change again trade dress for vols 5 and 6 after you have bought 1-4 in the super tiny font format? I'd like to see your reaction when it happens. 🤣

All I’m saying is that I personally like the new design better and since they are printing/reprinting all four volumes at once it’s possible to upgrade. If you want to. If they change it again, I don’t have a problem with that. First, it’s just a spine. Second, Vol 5 and beyond will be a different era. Lee/Kirby ends in Vol 4.

Fwiw Bendis/Bagley did 111 issues of USM but Sim/Gerhard did 235 consecutive issues of Cerebus together.

An early overview this week! Not a fantastic four fan, but it’s neat to see some of these silver & Bronze Age issues. The new spines wouldn’t bother me as much if the images were bigger. All that empty space at the bottom, and all you get is the Things’s eyes in a small window????

The main problem is for those of us that have the originals, side by side they look like crap. If you were getting them all for the 1st time, then I could possibly agree. Some people had suggested making the DM one spine and the regular the other. That would atleast give options.

Silver Surfer is getting one too. 12/28 release date, I believe. And silver age X-Men Vol. 1 and 2 are being reprinted in January and February respectively. Now that I think about it, Doctor Strange Vol 1 and 2 is also coming in February. Gonna be a lot of dialogue-y comics to read in early 2022!

I received serval "No Prizes" A postcard with handwritten notes on the back from Jack and Stan (and maybe Steve) responding to our pathetic kid's point of view). That was at the inception of and the growth of the letter's pages. I had a letter printed in a "Marvel Two-In-One" with the thing and later a missive in the (Steve Ditko created) "Blue Beetle" when it was resurrected at DC. Fun times and one day I'll have to look them up just for laughs. Good times.
