It would be cool if we got a book about Effie Trinket and seen more of the world of Panem from her perspectives before she met Katniss & Peeta. I think a good title for it would be "The Hunger Games: Capital Couture."
@llcourtАй бұрын
One of my biggest pet peeves with the first movie and them writing out Madge. Because district 12 is poor nobody would just let you have anything. Katniss isn’t the type of person to be eyeballing shiny unnecessary things in The Seam. And her friendship with Madge is how Katniss initially learns about the other districts uprisings. It all just makes more sense and in the books gives her pin a lot more meaning.
@starlavasil9330Ай бұрын
i don’t get why everyone says this! i really did not find it to be that important idk why everyone acts like she couldn’t have found out about the uprisings elsewhere! so strange
@imbluedubbadeeАй бұрын
@@starlavasil9330It was still important, and tbh would've humanised and Katniss more. She's such a bitch in the movies but in the books she's actually got a unique charm. We're shown her vulnerable aspects through the complexities of each of her friendships, another long term friend of that level of closeness would have added much needed depth to her character throughout her growth. Even at the end of the last movie I wasn't convinced that girl cared about anyone but Prim. Every time she showed care it felt like it was in self interest.
@tux_duhАй бұрын
Well also, the media of the movie is just a poor choice to show the story of the hunger games which mostly occurs inside Katniss' head. In the movies you only get the parts she shows the outside world to protect herself and Prim she's more likeable in the book bc we are in her head listening to herthoughts in real time instead of just watching her from a 3rd person perspective@@imbluedubbadee

the fact that Katniss and Madge friendship goes ways beyond them and their mothers were actually friends way before they were born and they watch as Madge’s aunt (the original owner of the pin) try to survive in the hunger games is so heartbreaking
@saramikos5642Ай бұрын
I get why Madge was cut from the movies. In the books, she has hardly any scenes! Plus, everything interesting about Madge is learned through Katniss's inner monologue, which would have been difficult to adapt onto the screen!

The movie didn't mention this, but the dress Katniss wore right after her first victory was intended to make her look innocent. Though it also had modifications to make her breasts bigger, because Capital doctors wanted to do surgery on her to make her look more attractive, and Haymitch and likely Cinna had to adamantly fight against that. Since she was barely conscious and a minor, and probably would've been trafficked if not for Peeta, that detail turned my stomach.
@pompe22116 күн бұрын
I still don't get why Snow didn't force her to be trafficked anyway. Snow could have used pictures and video of her with other people as "proof" that Katniss was cheating on Peeta and destroy her popularity and credibility as the Mockingjay.

An interesting thought I had on the style of both Plutarch and Cinna-when the style of everyone in the capital is incredibly vibrant and over the top, displaying a more muted and toned down look not only makes you stand out in contrast to the norm, but it appears to be an act of defiance and rebellion as it is going against everything the capital represents visually.

The pin was in the seam because Katniss' mother was not FROM the seam. her family were "wealthy" (or wealthier for 12) merchant class people. A gold pin would be cherished, but not completely uncommon. This is also why her mother is practically useless from a survival standpoint, she doesn't know how to cope with life in the seam because she never lived there until her marriage.

When I see the Capitol, it reminds me of extreme french haute couture... Especially since, at least how I remember it beeing described in the book, the Capitol speaks english with a fake - not so fake - french accent. Litterally how back in the day Nobles would speak French just because it was the "sophisticated" it languages.
@imperialraider1158Ай бұрын
Hm that’s interesting. I always assumed the capital accent was a British accent since the landmass is a future North America and the English had a foothold much longer than the French minus the territory that became the Louisiana Purchase. Though I guess either would be fine. I also thought it would be funny if when they met in the crossover series I’m writing the Capital survivors like Effie would take a liking to some of the gladers with a British accent such as Newt or Gally as the accent could be familiar or the same as the capital one.

Depends govt officials, teachers/professors, and military are often capital as those are considered prestigious. Avoxes are used as forced labor for sanitation/sewage, low level assistants, servants, etc. I guess it just depends. As for birth, the female professor in the prequel who mentors Snow used to work as a doctor and delivered babies per the book. Again that would be a position of esteem so Capital citizens would seek it out.

The prequel has a lot about this. There was a court but probably corrupt. We see peacekeepers including Snow and his friend from the Capital see hangings. There were prestigious prep academies then colleges that Snow attended. Some had jobs, but many didn't work. No idea on currency but I think some coins. Snow suggested a national betting system through the post office for gambling on the games. No idea on everyday life. Very bourgeoisie but Snow was actually trying to hide his poverty so his experience was different from most.

I think some of that was practical given racial differences in district 11. However that is a whole thing too how the poor agriculture district of predominantly POC labored over the fields but were starving. There's a really good KZbin video called "The Day Rue Became Black". Apparently a lot of fans were mad that the somewhat African American coded Rue who lived in the Panem equivalent of Georgia wasn't yt in the movie:/ so ridiculous but such an illuminating view of racism.
@MelissaBrown-k7h25 күн бұрын
@@mrslvw Yeah! As a POC in the region where district 11would be it was really great to see that the on set hair stylist didn't take the lazy route in how that styled the extras. I saw my self and my community in the crowd. It made me feel as though there was another layer of resistance by choosing to keep their cultural hair styles as opposed to just shaving it off or wrapping their hair up. Black hair is often a political statement so I wonder if the hairstylist thought about that in their work. I've also saw "The Day Rue Became Black" it really shows how people automatically assume whiteness in literature.

From what I heard Tigris disfigured herself- which is why when she’s seen she plays into the bit (wears tiger slippers in the comfort of her own home).
