*The laser beams can be modded so that they are candle flames or rocket exhaust: You can use a cone, made from a cylinder, with 20 (or more) loops cut into it, and then scale down one side of the cylinder (Proportional Editinig turned on) to give it a rounded cone shape. Then stretch it out 5 times as long as the diameter (experiment with length to suit the project). After you create your noise texture & animate it, and animate the Displacement modifier with an Empty, it can look like anything from a candle's flickering flame to a rocket's roaring exhuast, depending on how fast you move the Empty, and the size of the Cloud Texture settings and displacement Strength setting in the Displacemwent modifier you choose to use. :)

Exactly! There are SO many possibilities. We used to do this stuff before it was possible to do massive smoke sims on a desktop computer. These are fakes but they look cool. Thanks!!

@@KevBinge Hello Sir, Thanks a lot for the reply:) As one of the concept artists, 3D is a supporting tool we use to make our life easier(eg, light setting, architecture kitbashing etc) , So any tutorials you made that are quick and dirty is very handy for me XDD . If I can have a wish list, I would love to see some quick and dirty tutorials about creating environmental (landscape) assets, some trendy light setting for epic scene, or even kitbashing tips to create Sci-fi/Fantasy architectures/props in a very quick way! I have watched your podcast with the other Blender mentors in Blender Nest, I really enjoy all the talks and appreciate your chill attitude!! Please do more! Best regards!

So, quick semi-related question here. How would you depict the really large in space, compared to the human figures looking at the large thing for scale? The main reason I'm asking is because one of my favourite books was Rendezvous with Rama, and that was so huge, and I have no idea how to go about depicting it. As the astronauts get closer to it they can see how big the cylendar is.
@KevBinge
@KevBinge 4 жыл бұрын
Scale is ALWAYS tricky. I keep commenting on Ian Hubert’s stuff that he nails scale really well. One way I do it is by playing with the focal length of the camera. If you go wide, it can get expensive looking. Try going 35mm or lower and see how it opens up the frame. 50mm is great but can get claustrophobic for certain shots. Let me know if that helps.
