Doesn't have to be. I have a 30l nano cube from dennerle and the entire setup cost me about 200€ which is not that cheap but also not crazy expensive. Start off without using CO2 and focus on easy stem plants and anubias

Hi, i recently started with planted tank and used the dry start method to have carpet plant HM(peral weed) and few other plants as well however introduced Java plant and the whole tank got infected with BBA and had to remove all the plants looking to setup similar carpet plant then i found your video i would want to go with UG does need CO2 injection or can i plant in my existing planted tank.

can you plant ug in started aquarium already?
@UltumNatureSystems Жыл бұрын
Yes you can, UG actually may even prefer a more mature aquarium in which the soil has less nutrients.

Hi! I just started dry start for 2 weeks with UG as well, but some of them getting mold. I found out that I covered the tank completely with wrap so maybe that’s the reason why plants got mold. But do you know how do I treat the mold? Or molds will eventually go away if the tank is less humid?
@UltumNatureSystems2 жыл бұрын
A tiny gap in the covering will help provide just a bit of air circulation. We have heard that a light misting of hydrogen peroxide will kill the mold without harming the plant.

I'd personally choose a dark start before planting UG than a dry start. Just yeilds better results.
@UltumNatureSystems2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! What aspects of the dark start do you think will contribute more success for the UG?
@k1tig2 жыл бұрын
@@UltumNatureSystems the prime source of food isn't fertilizer, it's the bacteria in the soil. Sometime you can get lucky with the soil establishishing itself at a fast rate and you can have success planting UG in a fresh tank. But with a dark start your bacteria and microorganisms are already established and it's food source is ready immediately.
@UltumNatureSystems2 жыл бұрын
good point!
@dmc3489 Жыл бұрын
One of the most interesting comments I've read in ages! Considering UG is a bladderwort that feeds on microorganisms which in turn likely feed on bacteria, your explanation makes perfect sense. I've dry started UG in a Mr. Aqua 12L that was lit with two Current USA Planted LEDs. I had the tank covered in saran wrap for 8 weeks. The UG did extremely well and even continued to grow for a month after flooded. CO2 was injected via a Cerges reactor upon flooding. Then.... it slowly melted away. Have you kept UG for an appreciable amount of time as a submersed plant?

why ? they opted for a dry start ....

Hi, I just setup my 45U and is dry starting at the moment. My water is super hard (SoCal!) so I will likely use RO water. With Controsoil, my understanding is I only need to add minerals and GH but no KH. Can you clarify that please? I want to add shrimp (blue dream) when the tank is ready and cycled. Thanks!
@UltumNatureSystems Жыл бұрын
You've almost got it! If you decide to use RO water you need to add everything back, even the kH. The soil buffers kH down from hard water with high kH to make the water softer, but does not buffer in reverse (making soft water harder).
@ImSirp Жыл бұрын
@@UltumNatureSystems thanks for the replies. So, you would remineralize with something like salty shrimp gh/kh instead of just gh?
@DetectiveLopez. Жыл бұрын
@ImSirp Some people mix a little tap water with the ro to bring the TDS to whatever number you require

I'm curious about a carnivorous plant in a tank! Would it feed in copepods or shrimplets?
@UltumNatureSystems2 жыл бұрын
It will take liquid fertilizers just like any other aquatic plant :)
@k1tig2 жыл бұрын
Soil quality is more important than fertilizer. If propper soil health is maintained, you'll have good plant health.
@CazzyCat2 жыл бұрын
I was just curious because terrestrial carnivorous plants require really pure water with no fertilizer. And the insects they eat are pretty much just a supplemental nutrition. I didn't know if it was the same for this particular plant. it's very interesting!
@k1tig2 жыл бұрын
@@CazzyCat UG is tolerant of liquid fertilizers and higher tds in tanks. But really the important thing is to have the bacteria in the soil established.

Cool. It looks fake too! Fake is such a good look in aquariums. The neat thing about those plants is that they look fake, but they are real! These plants are carnivorous?! Are they going to eat my snails, shrimp, and nano fish? Will they eat the daphnia and baby brine shrimp I feed to my baby fish? I'm in the part of Alaska which is essentially an arctic desert. What do I want to do to dry start my plants up here? Also, what can I put on the rock to cover it up? Will buce grow on it? How about cryps? Will it accept glue without messing it up too bad?
