None are actually Formula cars but built to the very open British Hillclimb regulations except Darren Warwick’s Dallara. Very short hills where you need to aim for perfection. The shortest being Barbon Manor at 814 metres with a hill record of 20.08 seconds which is an average speed of 92mph from a standing start. Ultra light weight and big aero is the key and the starts will be well in excess of 1g lateral in the all-important scoring Top 12 Runoff.

I was lucky enough to see a DJ Firestorm driven by Wallace Menzies in 2013 at my local (very) short track of Kames. It was such an awesome sight, even with such a constrained circuit. Sadly he went on to destroy it at Shelsey Walsh the following year. It must have truly been fantastic to see these on this more open layout, as you say. Another great video, thanks! :) edit: I think that might actually be Wallace Menzies driving the #53 Gould, in this video.

Hi Bozzy. The way these cars grip is insane!😲 It's really hard to imagine burning up the roads the way these guys do. Holding it wide open through certain portions of the hill climb takes tremendous amounts of self-confidence and trust in your equipment. Absolutely incredible performance and even though they are muffled, they still sound awesome.🎶🎧 Brilliant job by you and your friends, sir. I can imagine it being quite a challenge just keeping these rockets in the frame.😉 See you on the next one, dude. Ciao!

Thanks for the comment my big friend! Agreed with everything you said. I was aware of their speed thanks to those on board videos you can find by searching for "fastest hillclimb" etc but what blew my mind was when I searched for their engines! I wasn't expecting to find something like a Champcar derived V8 or, even better, a Cosworth KF V6 used in the Opel Calibra DTM :O

@Jonny_Red5 жыл бұрын
You have Prescott Hillclimb in Gloucestershire which is near Cheltenham, then theres Gurston Down in Wiltshire but the one for the pure speed, atmosphere and history of the place is at Shelsley Walsh near Worcester, once youve seen a Top 12 Runoff there you will catch the bug for more trust me, its eye popping how close you can stand trackside and then they come rushing past at 130, 140 mph, absolute adrenaline buzz! and you summed it up perfectly...it is the forgotten part of British Motorsport....but thats a good thing in some ways..the fact that it feels so intimate, friendly and old skool yet the top end machinery is such an amazing array of stuff it seems out of this world and place but its not. :)

Sorry to inform you but GWR Predator set fastest time ever at the Goodwood “circus”. Ask Rob Turnball, he was a witness to the fact. They just couldn’t eat it. And the time was mysteriously “disappeared” as it didn’t fit with the poncy preconceptions of the “interests”. In the real Big World you could call it a “rigged game”, pathetic. Graham Wight was never, to my knowledge, invited back. Any “real” Hillclimb fan knows full well that Goodwood is just a circus created,largely, for commercial gain, nothing else. Apologies if I’m mistaken it may have been the Gould that Graham was driving at the time. But I rest my case, it was the same outcome.
