I come from a time where gaming laptop batteries were basically a UPS. So, for them to have even 4 hours is pretty good to me. That being said, I realize now things are different. With things like a G14 getting 11 or 12 hours, it's an area to improve in. But for something that is "the most powerful AMD laptop", I'm not getting it for battery life. I'm getting it for that power! The power supply can just always come along for the ride.

May be supply chain issue caused Asus to not do it. Some time Intel and OEMs do co enggineering for the most premium laptop . And give the chasis to AMD also, since they counts very low. But some times Intel refuse to do as per contract. These are just my assumption. That maybe the reason why Asus blocked vents in AMD Tuf model back when 4800H used.

The backlight bleeding on ASUS laptops has been a plague for a long time. I owned Scar 15 and G17 from 2022, both had awful bleeding visible even in the browser in a bright room and very annoying while watching movies. This SHOULD NOT exist on a premium lineup of laptops. The 1440p 16:9 panel ASUS uses is either garbage or something is wrong with the installation of that screen. Zephyrus S17 I also owned for some time had absolutely zero backlight bleeding and looked gorgeous but that was a 4K 120Hz panel. Also the whole plastic body on such an expensive device is a huge NO from me. The fact they are only using Ryzen in this outdated chassis with the subpar screen is just offensive tbh. That light bar on the bottom also looks awful and you can exactly see the plastic connections inside and the LEDs which has no place in Legion 7 or Alienware. Very overpriced device for it's build quality, QC, chassis, outdated design etc. Also bring back the mechanical keyboard from 2021 SCARs....

@@RyneLanders For me it doesn't matter if its plastic but it should be build to last and weigh less , feel better and should be thin. Mac devices are great but the pricing is worst when it come to a higher ssd and ram versions. Normally a 70 class laptop gpu was a right choice to get a good performance to be contained in a 15 inch chassis .But this gen nvidia changed the name last minute when they released 4070 which was meant to be a 4060 before , since amd is low on laptop gpu supply from tsmc .4070 is DOA with low bandwidth and 8gb vram. I have a similar Strix Scar and let me tell you one thing about the thermals, those 90° on load is on manual mode on their software Armoury Crate, and it´s a fixed speed, the turbo option (the automatic/dynamic one) doesn´t reach the 100% of ventilation, so you need to remember to manually change the mode in order to not reach 100° (in my case) and have a reboot of the system because you have reached the temp. limit. The other thing is all the benchs are made on new products but the ventilation system is going to decay and have difficulties to make proficient cooling, because the coolers taking dust, even if you are super clean, the smallest particles will make their way to the center of the coolers and those are custom and really difficult to find stock after 1 year. I´m going to go back to desktop PC for my main PC, I have more options to control the thermals and leave the Strix for backup/mobile option.

Chiplets = inherently high idle power draw. It takes energy to move data from chip to chip. Nothing AMD can do about the inherent laws of physics. Now I do expect things to get a bit better as AMD further tunes Raphael's BIOS code & chipset drivers specifically for mobile (for maybe another ≈+10-20% more time per charge), but I'm not be expecting ANY dramatic changes to battery life on Dragon Range ever happening. AMD very deliberately choose to go ALL IN on performance at the expense of battery life. This is a DESKTOP REPLACEMENT. Not your thing and want a balance of both? I got both the AMD 17" and the Intel 18" Asus laptops with 4080's to see which I'd like more. I kept the AMD 17 for a few reasons: - It has significantly less/quieter coil whine. The Intel version was obnoxious and single-handedly made me want to return it. - The I/O is "recycled" from the previous year, but this is a much better layout for me as the USB A's on the right side are useless on the new 18" chassis. - Both laptops have poor battery life, but the AMD version is actually around 10-15% better or so, while also being able to game on the iGPU when on battery really well (~1440p @60fps Elden Ring). - The gaming performance was slightly behind Intel at maybe ~5-10%, but the productivity is significantly better in just about every other workload. The multi-core performance is incredible. - Thermals and decibel levels were also better on the 17 by a small margin, even with the smaller and older chassis, and 1 less fan. The speakers on the 18 were better with the new chassis, and the 16:10 AR is cool but makes fitting the laptop into most travel bags impossible. Note: Both laptops suffer from the current Nvidia driver crashes/black and blue screens on 531.xx versions, so stick with 528.xx stock drivers until this is addressed.

I don't think you were gaming on the iGPU. The iGPU of this are 2 RDNA 2 Compute Units, they are barely enough for 1080p30. I think you were gaming with the 4090 at low wattage. The Phoenix laptops without dedicated graphics will do much better... but still not 1440p60 on Elden Ring, it's quite a demanding game

@@VideogamesAsArt I switched between Standard and Optimized in Armory Crate while on battery to lock the GPU source and there was a clear difference in performance and noise when doing so. It didn't perfectly maintain 60 and I wasn't at max settings. To be fair, there were plenty of dips and I was inside a small area in Castle Sol only, not trying to fully benchmark the iGPU. The 4080 can do this on Silent with it's eyes closed.

If I recall, despite the 18" size that unit is literally only about 4mm wider than the 17". I'm pretty sure any bag that fits the 17 will fit the 18. (Unless I'm remembering the measurements wrong.)

I am an Asus ROG G15 (2022 model) owner. I am trying to RMA that laptop with defected iGPU, and have been definitely REGRETting buying it. (yes continously regretting) I have this mission of mentioning this situation in every Asus laptop post I see in my feed, to inform the good people of internet about what they may confront with. Don't buy from Asus because their products have issues(mostly QA-quality assurance)and their EU RMA contractors are bad people.

Skip. While AMD is getting better and better at the hardware level, unfortunately at the software ecosystem it is behind Intel. Cmon, today is the AI era. Intel is supporting hardly on AI via OpenVINO. While it targets x86 system, many specific library don't work on AMD CPU. AMD team must be aware on this part.

@@jesusbarrera6916 it's NOT about performance. It is about the great thing must be aligned with "great" usage. I'm happy that this generation of AMD CPU, finally support AVX512 instruction set which is indeed crucial for AI and Machine learning. I'm really curious what the battery life on this laptop is when you disable the GPU. I've had other ASUS laptops like this, and going to GPU Eco mode within ASUS Armory Crate (which turns the GPU off) quadrupled my battery life. lol. I went from 2 hours to 8.

I want to buy a new high end laptop. When your video began I was interested, however when you revealed the price of 3400 dollars followed by the lack of io I moved on to another video. I have a minisforum mini PC that is no where as powerful as this laptop, it has a Rysen 6900HX apu with Radeon 680m GPU. This little PC has two usb c ports, one is a USB4 at 40GBs/sec and the other is USB3.2 gen 2 at 10GB's/sec on the other side it has 2 HDMI ports and 4 USB A 3.2 gen2 ports also at 10GB's/sec. It has 32GBs of ddr5 ram, an nvme gen4 512 GB ssd that I upgraded to WD 4tb nvme gen4 ssd. I also can upgrade it to 64GBs of ram. All of this is packed into a case that is only 4" square and about 1 3/8" thick. It was only a little over 700 dollars. I removed the ssd that had Windows 11 installed, after installing the 4tb ssd I installed HOLOISO which is a modified Steam OS 3 that is on the Steam Deck, they made changes that allows it to be installed on hardware that is not the Steam Deck. It is faster than the Deck mainly because it runs at around 65watts, I also was able to over clock the 4800 ddr 5 ram to 6000. It is too bad that Asus cheaped out on the USB ports.

I disagree with your 'right-side-I/O comment'! I really hate it when reviewers give a positive comment about a product 'not' having something because ii is a bad influence on the manufacture. So, here's the deal: What person uses this laptop in a serious mode without an external mouse for more than 7-microseconds? You always need a USB port for the mouse dongle (unless you have big-bucks for wireless). So, why not have just one USB on the right, for the mouse which is totally unobtrusive? I have this laptop and I'm running out of USB and have to use a darn hub--that I have to lug around!

What the heck happened to getting a top-tier chassis with an i7 or Ryzen 7. Not everyone is gonna edit videos professionally or something and battery life on the go as well as thermals+noise if not also clock speeds when the GPU is sucking up 125w++ matters more to most buyers.

Buying a 3lakh rupees laptop only to see it becoming obsolete in next 2-3 years is ridiculous....better to go with a laptop that can run almost all your games on low/mid settings with a slightly lower 1080p resolution costly only 1/3 or maybe 1/4 of the price, so that once it becomes useless, just buy another one with new uptodate hardware.
