play 10+0 and analyse all your games regardless of if you win or lose. i've been playing Chess for 2 years and have 2125 Elo in rapid just by doing this. no courses, no coaching, just analysing my games with an engine 🔥

I disagree with the whole idea of a stalemate being a draw. The king with no place to go should be the loser in that situation. You have to understand why they made it illegal to move the king into check in the first place. Because... if the king moves into check, he can be captured on the next move and it's game over. That's no different than resigning, but it would be a blunder or by accident. So, to prevent this kind of "accidental" resignation, they made a rule saying you can't move into check. Okay fine, but what if the king has no where to go? Then he HAS to move into check, it's no longer accidental, it's not a blunder and the rule about not moving into check shouldn't apply. The rule should be: It is illegal to move your king into check if you have other options. Meaning, if moving the king into check is your only option, then so be it. Your king will be captured on the next move, and you will lose as you deserve to.

I think from a game design perspective it should be a draw. It places more emphasis on the importance of checkmate to have it be the only active win condition.

3R2bk/6rb/8/8/3B3R/8/8/4K3 b - - 0 1 An example of stalemate while the king cant move into check. Black has no legal moves so the game is drawn. For consistency in all situations where there is no legal move the game should always be a draw

@@thebellcurve3437 Black pieces set up: Ka1, Na2, Nb1, Rb2. Pin all of the pieces to the black king with rooks and a bishop. Let it be blacks move and its a stalemate with no way for the king to move into check. Theres tons of examples like this and while it looks odd its still a valid example in principle

@@IC-oo1mn I see now that I did not articulate my proposed chess rule clearly. I said the new rule should be "It is illegal to move your king into check if you have other options." but I should have said: "It is illegal to _put_ your king in check if you have other options." So, when enemy pieces pin your pieces to your king, that would not be stalemate. Even though your king is trapped by his own pieces, you should be able to move one of your pieces, thus putting your king in check. Your opponent will capture your king on the next move and it's game over for you. No stalemate.
