I use a couple slightly bigger 600watt grid tie micro inverters in my workshop - with solar panels surplus so put them on it's roof - I reasoned that I wanted a simple system to harvest the power - I don't think my meter runs backwards - what it does is use the solar to reduce the use from the grid in the day for background consumption like PC and fridge - they do tend to run hot once you pass half their rated capacity and an internal fan comes on - I run a tiny fan over them on very hot days and it really helps

1. There are already similar cheap microinverters but with Limiter Sensor :) 2. This math is valid if you consume ALL energy produced and not limit 3. There are devices called "watt routers". This works the opposite of limiter. So, you are not limiting generation, at the same time this device directs ONLY EXCESS energy to the active load (water heating). I used this method until I bought batteries. This is the best way for the fastest payback because all the energy is used and you don't pay for export.

I have several small 600W microinverters with 600W solar on each. Easy, cheap. Just plug it into the panels and an outlet. (Paid for themselves in less than a year.) I have net metering so I get credit for any excess power. ( I set up net metering for my grid connected arrays.) You have good advice on power limiting inverters when you don't have net metering.
@VegasRoManiacReviewsАй бұрын
@@MarkSpohr that's amazing ... So how do you have this net metering? Do you have a second meter installed in your house? What country you live in ? Because here where I live there is a big problem within that net metering because they don't want to offer it unless you install a secondary meter to be able to subtract from your main meter.
@MarkSpohrАй бұрын
@@VegasRoManiacReviews I'm in Northern California (mountains) and our small local utility offers net metering when you install solar. I get 1:1 credit for any power I feed back to the grid. The power company installed a "bi-directional" meter which keeps separate totals of power into the house and power out of the house. My electric bill shows these totals each month and any excess is banked until the end of the year. I build up a large surplus in the summer which usually lasts until the end of the year so I have a $0 bill from about April through December.

my phev has 200w of solar which backfeeds my house once its full through one of these lol. i rent so i thought it made the most sense. got one of those usb-c routers that uses 2-4w, changed my modem to use usb-c and ran it into a gan power brick so it only uses 3-4w, unplugged my door bell which saves like 5w, got a dc fridge which i modded to use 28v from a usb-c gan pd3.1 charger with low emissivity tape all over it and only uses ~120wh/day. actually saves power coz we dont open the main fridge as much. added those PIR motion sensor lights to all the undercounter spots in my house and doorway so we keep the light soff and they just turn on when you walk by. so many things you can do to save power

Thanks for the update, I have this same setup with 1 inverter and 600w solar. I just purchased another 600w of solar waiting to install. No batteries. After watching your previous video, it solved my question about the meter. My question now is, what would you have done differently, a 220v inverter you can hook up to both lines? Is there any particular model? Before i go any further, im going to evaluate the options. Also, I don't think we can clamp both lines to run the sum to this 1 inverter. Thanks

Here in Australia the best way to make return quick is to not pay for anything, but pick up other peoples thrown out solar systems. We used to have government subisidies for 1.5kW systems, that are now in place for 5kW systems, so there are people basically throwing out 1.5kW systems. After a few months hitting up facebook market place each day I have been able to get get 3kW of panels and 4kW of grid tie inverters - for free. The reason is that here in Australia disposing of solar panels is illegal - you have to pay ~$15 per panel to recycle them, so the value of used panels is negative, and people will give them away for free.
@VegasRoManiacReviewsАй бұрын
I've tried to scavenge solar panels on the local marketplace but I've ended up with all kinds of voltages and amps ratings and they didn't really match very well. So when I found the deal on Amazon which was better than what people were offering to sell used, I just jumped on it. I still have some matched and mixed panels but the majority are just from one brand which was selling for $0.50 per dollar, people in Vegas where I live are absolutely insane and unreasonable how much they are asking for a used panel. Sometimes $1 per what they're nuts because they have no clue what they're selling. So they think that they have gold when they're worthless and the new is cheaper

Can´t you ask your company to adapt your meter to accept input? here you can do it, costs about 50€ one time and you can pay it back super quick
@VegasRoManiacReviewsАй бұрын
@@ElAdri1999 nope .. they don't want to do that because they lose money, here there are taxes on each kilowatt that you buy that the local government is also losing so there's so many people that they have to go through. @ElAdri1999Ай бұрын
@VegasRoManiacReviews in Spain they are forced by the government to do it, you need to do some papers and they charge you the sun tax on sold power, about 20% and they pay you at like 7-9c/kWh, while you pay like 12-15c/kWh
@st200olАй бұрын
@@VegasRoManiacReviews Its not just about losing money, its also about balancing the grid. If enough people do this the grid could easily end up with too much power on a sunny day. If people were allowed to export power with no approval they wouldn't know who to contact in the even of local power surges. That's one of my concerns with a solar investment, there is no guarantee. in the future that they will always want your power on a sunny windy day.

0 export and point of consumption POC is the future of small installation. Its ironic that the 3devices with the best 0 export features are the least copied or supported .
