I am in violin virtuoso and my playing has improved way more than I could’ve imagined

As a piano player, much of this applies to our practice as well!

Thank you for the advice. As I love learning to play new instruments, making time to practice my latest instrument (violin) is my biggest challenge. I love the sound of the violin so I can’t wait until the next time I get to practice! Whether five minutes or fifty minutes I need to make sure every movement is done with purpose and as perfectly as I am able. My goal is to just have fun and be able to play a tune for my pleasure. If others like it, bonus!

Yes my teacher who called himself a white Russian insisted on stopping me immediately upon a mistake and starting again or going over the passage until it was consistently perfect . He was one of the Spivakovsky siblings . In his case though , he was born in Germany not Odessa from where the family fled the 1905 pogroms to seek refuge in Germany from where they fled again in 1930s to Australia then some to USA. Playing in bands and whatever i encountered musicians who felt it was sufficient to be aware where you made mistakes and to be extra von the ball for another time .

SO much good stuff here. How do you have time to do every note like this in an entire peice?!!!

This is why we practice 4 hours a day lol

Unfortunately I didn't practice that long but I did comment :)

My father was a violinist. He used to say "You don't practice until you get it right, you practice until you never get it wrong."

I practise at random intervals through the day, and everytime I do this I focus on a specific thing, but I only practice overall for about an hour and a half, I dont think I could practice for much longer though😦

That's good for your mental focus, that way you don't get too tired and sloppy in your practice.

The advice is good, yet your playing will not go from intermediate to 'incredible' in six months time my friends. It takes many years of incredible hard practice, devotion and a good portion of talent. Don' t believe in fairy tales. Rather think of Jasha Heifetz, probably the greatest violinist of the 20th century and how hard and prolonged he had to study, coaxed by his father.

That invites a long discussion. Anyway the 1939 movie 🎥 They Shall Have Music gives good close ups of his finger work.

Using a tuner is a very bad idea, as optimum intonation is dependent on context. Even if one uses a multitemperament tuner one has to decide which temperament to use.For double stops just (non-tempered) intonation sounds best, while equal temperament, for example, sounds awful. Students should be encouraged to listen for the difference tones (aka 'Tartini' tones).
@RobLandesTeaches4 ай бұрын
Yes, some students don’t have the ear developed to do this yet and are working on so many other issues that I recommend a tuner at the beginning, but moving towards tuning with chords or open strings is the goal.

None of your examples are understandable for me. I think You should have explained them a bit more. 😊... And I'd prefer also another view, when you show something. Kind regards 🎶🐦

Lol. You understand nothing about violin teaching and how sound producing works my friend. Brain (imagine),->left hand finger(s) contact (the feeling needs to be perfect-soft and)-> Right hand (if the 2 before are correct, 3rd comes automaically). And this is valid for every single one. This method of yours does not help reducing learning time. Not at all.
