Have to say, your videos made it possible for me to get into elite dangerous. I bought it years ago and it was really cool but at the time there wasn't a whole lot of straightforward information about how the game operates and your videos introduced the basic interface and operation of the game very concisely while remaining informative. So for that, I have you to thank for finally getting me into a space exploration sim that offers what Elite Dangerous does. Now my evenings are filled with space stuff while watching space tv shows or listening to popular sci-fi music. Keep up the awesome videos!

Fehu system doesn't supply any Empire charity missions after wasting 30 min. there today, all you get is charity missions for Independent minor factions!!! Tamar system gives 1 or 2 Empire charity mission every 10 min. of relogging back and forth in Open/Solo and private. Anyone got a nice Empire system and station where it gives a little bit more Charity missions? Tun system is still the best system for Federation charity missions, last night ranked up 3 times in 2 hours until Rear admiral. You can cycle through Open/Solo and Private in 10 min. and stack between 15 to 30 charity missions!

Yeah, Troa says that any charity mission will do, but that's only really true in stations where only Fed or Empire are the only major faction represented. You do need to check that the minor faction offering the charity mission is not an independent.

This may be late news, but on Cubeo, if you land on the south pole of the one landable planet there is a station that contentiously gives out attack the base missions for one specific base. So instead of grinding for cherity missions you can grind for ground attack missions and then when you succeed have a pretty wall of mission complete notifications :D

This is fantastic, thank you for it. Also, what I found out, and seems to be true for the ranks Lieutenant to Post Commander, is that when doing Charity Missions, the amount of credits you would spend on the credit based ones seemed to be directly related to the percent that you earn, which was about 10,000 credits for 1%. I can't say for certain, but that's just what it looked like.

over a year later but just got into the ranking up system. I've tried sothis/ ceos, 17 draconis, and Tun. sothis/ ceos has been the most reliable of the 3 but it is very slow due to how long it takes to get 20 data delivery missions. 17 draconis spawns donation missions at a painfully slow rate and stops giving them after completing about 6-8 donations. Tun just doesn't have many missions that take me to the same place to drop. Any advice?

I had some reasonable consistency at Cubeo (Medupe). Average of 2 per cycle.... and they seem to ask for food cartrgs and basic medicines which are available at the station itself. Only other thing I have seen is performance enhancers, so bring some. Nothing like 17 Draconis for Fed, but everything in Empire is really dry.

For getting Federal Rep by bounty hunting you have to be in a system exploited by Zachary Hudson.

Cubeo surface missions do pretty good. You can stack them. Also, any missions labeled "Classified Data Transportation" will give a lot of rep. They have short timers, so they're hard to stack. They also fail on scan. However, they give a lot of rank. I went from squire to baron in one day doing them.

First of all, thanks for the sum up of the systems. Cheers for that. Quince have smuggling as you said, but you need to shuffle the BB quite a lot... and then when they pop, they pop in like 3-4 some in the same systems/outposts so its nice to stack them up and do them altogether. However, amount of chat spam and interdictions is hilarious. You will literally be interdicted back-to-back if you stack a lot of them. As in "interdiction", you evade, and immediately you get another one. Due to scan mechanics, I suggest you upgrade thrusters and power distributor so that you can double boost away from them since it doesn't matter who scan you, they will fail if they do...

My experience for the Fed is: If you like risky game fun and long travel smuggling while making a hell of credits (when you are successful!), then 17 Draconis is simply the best. If you like to stay within the bubble, then Tun is your choice. I tried Taribes, but this one is not as good as the latter. One I found, but don't know if it is still that good at time of writing, is Largaruyu. I haven't testest Exbeu so far, but will definitely give it a try. For the Empire, my experience is: 1. Cubeo, 2. HR 1064. This system is also a good system for imp Slave trading, as this is a spot with one of the cheapest pricees for buying Imp slaves. Quince is good, if you are into long range smuggling.

Good video, however something you may have overlooked is Classified Data Transport missions and Classified Cargo Transport missions (both types have the jagged signal icon at the bottom). These are simple A to B fedexing missions with the added caveat that they will be failed if you get scanned along the way. At first glance they hardly get you any credits, so I suspect CMDRs write them off as likely being bad for naval rank as well. But I have found that they have the potential to get you massive chunks of rank per turn-in, especially the ones that send you far. So using a small or medium exploration ship with outfitted with some cargo racks is ideal for picking these up. ASP Explorer is probably the holy grail for this, but a Cobra MKIII would work fine too. Cargo capacity does not have to be massive. You could probably get away with having a max capacity of around 30 tons. Whatever ship you choose, it needs to be fast enough to dodge scans. That, or rely on silent running I suppose. At the rank of Count with the Empire, long range Classified missions are getting me up to 5 percent per single mission turn-in (at lower ranks they were getting me quite a bit more, 7 percent at the previous rank Viscount, and 10 percent before that, so there is some steep drop-off as you climb to higher ranks). For added perspective, I should mention that Charity missions generally only grant around 1 percent, and other, non-charity missions do not even grant a full percent. So, doing some napkin math I figure Classified missions are worth around 10 times more than other, non-charity missions and probably around 5 times your average Charity mission. You can expect the good ones to send you between 60 to 120 light years away. Which, in an ASP Explorer maxed for exploration/hauling, is going to be around 3 to 5 jumps. Each jump takes about a minute, maybe less. So my strategy is to station hop in a system that I can expect to have a fair amount of charity missions and turn all those in, and pick up as many Classified missions as possible (only for factions aligned with the Empire, of course), do what I can within the time constraints allotted, then return and repeat the process. Ranking up this way has been effective. If things continue to go as planned, I'll have gone from being unranked with the Empire, to Duke, in 2 weeks, playing 4 hours per day on weekdays and 8+ hours per day on weekends. As of this writing however there is a glitch which sometimes produces Classified Data Transport missions that cannot be completed. You'll know which ones these are if they have an NPCs name as the target, instead of a station/outpost. So don't pick those up. One other thing to keep in mind, is that Classified Data Transport missions are unlocked based on your Exploration rank, while Classified Cargo Transport missions are based on your Tranding rank. So if you are low ranked in either areas, the best missions will not be available to you.

+NXS Tripp Thank you. Checking in here to confirm that I hit my 2 week "deadline" for hitting Duke. The Cubeo system was my base of operations. I am now making ultimate bank in my trade Cutter. After spending another week making around 200 million credits with my new ship, I decided to go finish off my rank with the Federation, which thanks to systems like Tun, is a joke, because you can just keep relogging at one station while cycling through game modes (open/private group/solo) and spamming the piles of charity missions that are produced there. Went from Petty Officer to Rear Admiral in 2 days of intense charity mission farming. This is unfortunately not viable with the Empire, as systems like Tun do not seem to exist for them. Will be trying out the Federal Corvette after the next major patch, which is adding new Class 4 weapons and overhauling the mission system.

amphisatsu. take all no cargo missions at every hop. the destinations clump even when going to other systems b/c the powers stay the same and their expansion/control targets remain the same. amphisatsu is the good one b/c of high station density and high power density. it works for me. i even found a hard limit on number of missions you can accept at the same time ;)
@julianpearce2189 жыл бұрын
OK, just to be clear, It does not matter what charity mission you accept. HOWEVER the minor factions alignment to one of the three main factions will affect which rank increases? This means: if you donate to an independant minor faction you will see no benefit at all and the Alliance major faction has no (visible) ranking system? Note that Tun's Wart (Tun) has ONLY Federation aligned minor factions where as TAMAR has Empire and independents struggling for control.
@julianpearce2189 жыл бұрын
Also (1) It seems that donating to an underdog minor faction will increase its standing at that star port, so if we all rush to where an Empire aligned minor faction is the underdog and support that cause: After a while, it will no longer be the underdog and will no longer request donations? (In TUN this does not matter , however in Tamar it will affect who has control) Also(2) I have no conclusive proof , but it "feels" as if I get offered more charity donate missions after completing multiple mission for the same major faction. Example: Stacking several smuggling missions from an Empire aligned minor faction will usually result in multiple charitable donate missions where the target star port has an Empire aligned minor faction with low influence. This would actually make some sense in that both the smuggling and the charitable donation undermines the controlling power in the target system. I'm going back to smuggling now (as i need to make cash again) I'll let you know if the theories above hold up. (I will also let you know if they do not)
@julianpearce2189 жыл бұрын
And finally: Troa touches upon the less obvious type of charity mission that requests you donate a small quantity of resource to the cause. The resource is usually some kind of food (fish, animal meat,,) and can usually be found ( in very low supply) in the commodities market at the SAME STAR PORT or in a relatively close system (12-15 Ly which, is nothing for an ASP) NOTE "usually" I just picked up one for 2 progenitor cells. Closest system: 91Ly oh well.

I did Tamar for a while and it worked alright, but seems the charity missions dried up after I refreshed a few times. I don't know if they nerfed it or its just cause of the simulation. Anyway, I had decent luck at Fehu, got about 2% per data mission ranking up to Lord. I decided to try another system outside the bubble and discovered HIP 4073. I picked up some "classified data" missions to locations inside the bubble (about 130 LY) 6-7 jumps for me in the asp. They weren't big on credits but awesome rank gain, there were a couple that gave me 8% rank (Lord to Baron) from a single mission. Best luck was at sommerville platform, but sometimes I go there and can't find any missions, maybe cause its a low population, but other times its got plenty with some decent paying shadow deliveries as well.

Thanks! Just some additional info on HIP 4073, I have still been using it for rank and I found that any "classified data" mission gives about 2-3% if it involves 1 empire faction and if both parties involved are empire then it can be about 6-7% although thats not a guarantee. The missions never have more than 1 hour timer so I can only stack a small handful of them but sometimes at somerville platform you can find multiple missions to the same destination. its hit or miss but I feel like I average about 10% per run and its roughly 30 minutes round trip so maybe about 20% per hour. The secret cargo missions can also be pretty good, just remember you cant get scanned. Just made it to Count and slowly climbing to Duke.

If you really want rank fast, do the classified data transportation missions from cubeo while getting donation missions. If they are more than 70 ly couriers then you will most likely get 2-3% even at high ranks
@johnnyphase9 жыл бұрын
Feb 1st 2016 I can confirm suggested Fed systems still working quite well, made it to Rear Admiral quite fast. Imperial ranking is a pain in the ass though. From those suggested systems only Cubeo worked for me. Still it took quite a long time to get to Duke as mostly I had to roll one single charity mission. I noticed that while charity missions in solo disappear after being completed and you must wait for new ones switching solo/open, charity missions in open mostly keep reappearing exactly the same. So if you get one for e.g. 24 thousand Cr you can keep rolling it over and over gaining 1% each time from Marquis to Duke. Takes time but is still 10x faster than any other method I tried (including Fehu - bubble stuff). So, thanks for this dude. I really had enough grinding before I tried this.
@TroaBarton9 жыл бұрын

+Caio Gomes Garcia Hi. I just checked in Cubeo, first landing in Medupe City and bang - 2 charity missions. They are still there. I just gained another 6% above Duke just to check if it still works. I guess you need luck and patience. Go to any station, if there is no charity, switch solo/open several times, if there is nothing go to another station. Keep trying untill you get a nice juicy mission (over 20k Cr) in open mode and you call roll it over for a long time. Don´t expect anything easy though, it sucks yeah, I don´t know if there is any better system because this is uncomparable with how Fed systems are juicy. Fed ranks are so easy I did not stop at corvette level and made it all the way to Admiral. No way I want to do this for Empire...
@caiogomesgarcia3699 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply =D Much appreciated! Wow you must be lucky haha.. I've changed between solo/open more than 10 times jsut to get 5000cr missions that dont even give 1% progression. Im still at Viscount btw But hey, do you mind explaining the "roll it over" part? I didnt get that. Sorry for posing that many questions, i've spent so much time trying to rank up ;P haha
@johnnyphase9 жыл бұрын
+Caio Gomes Garcia Roll it over part comes as soon as you get a juicy charity mission in OPEN PLAY! Charities in open play have a nice attribute, they reappear :) So take the mission, make the donation, switch to solo (with some luck you get some in solo too), switch back to open and voilla, the exactly same mission appears again. Repeat untill you´ve had enough. I did this from Count to Duke but it still took me many hours. Any other way would take me many days though.
@Ichorslick999 жыл бұрын
While ranking up I would occasionally grab a courier mission to kill time. I don't have any evidence to show you, but I delivered a message from a Federation faction to an empire faction and received rank in both. I was only a warrant officer(federation) and squire(empire) and I received 1-2% in both major factions, which would probably be unnoticeable with your high rankings. I wouldn't recommend doing it, seems like too much of a hassle when you can just charity farm one at a time, but it does work.
@TroaBarton9 жыл бұрын
I've never seen that are you sure you didn't pick up another mission to gain rank in both? I double checked this to make sure and turned in 6 smuggling missions from Robigo to federation systems and gained zero rank.
@Ichorslick999 жыл бұрын
It was just the one mission. I always check my ranking before turning in missions to see how much I gain(trying to figure out what works best) when I noticed I was delivering from a federation minor faction to an empire minor faction and I gained rank in both. It's a difficult thing to try to do again as you have to find a mission that begins with a minor aligned with one major and deliver to a minor involved with the other. Does this mean if I run a mission from one federation minor to another federation minor do I gain rank twice? The whole thing is confusing. The only type of mission I noticed that was worth the time besides charity missions was the courier missions. Specifically the ones that have you deliver a message to unexplored systems. Those were sometimes worth between 5-10% at around Petty Officer rank but even then, it seemed random. As for the Robigo missions you were running, I think you can earn less then 1% rank. I've done many charity mission where my rank didn't change either(I always turn them in one at a time). With your high rankings, and smuggling missions not worth much, maybe you just can't notice?

Today i've ranked up from chief petty officer +45% to post captain +51% in 17 draconis doing only charity misions. Cost: 7-8 mil. Cr. and 5-6 hrs. Not so bad. I'll have my corvette tomorrow. For duke in empire i mostly did classified data transmission and shadow delivery missions from aditi. It took much longer but i got rich in the process. Good luck cmdrs. and thanks for great video troa.

Early ranks get more from missions and scale into a lackluster gain in rank, charity missions are static. Later on the give you more because they don't scale negatively.

Affect on reputation is based on base monetary value of the mission. For combat mission its just what it is. If mission pays 100k - you get specific amount of xp from that mission. If another mission pays 200k - it will give twice as much experience. For trade and smuggling mission it takes into account base monetary value of cargo you hauling.smuggling. So if you hauling 140 tons of imperial slaves, with base value of 3,000,000 - that the value that will affect rank xp. Not what mission actually pays (which will be more like 3.6 million). Same for smuggling. Long range smuggling might easily pay like 10 millions for 20 tons of smuggling. But it will take into account only base cost of those 20 tons of cargo (so likely more like 1 million of value). For donation missions its vice versa. It about how much you donate.
@MrHunter26048 жыл бұрын
so combat mission are the best way to up rank when its well pay?

Hi Troa, am a recent subsciber to your channel and found your videos to be very informative, ty very much I,ve found a system LHS 1275 with two outposts Gooch Mine and Nagel Legacy both with a high amount of charity missions from monies, food , meds, soft weapons and armour, also data missions. Switching from solo to open and also a few private groups, I stacked an awesome amount, and have managed to get to Admiral in 45 hours in gameplay starting from petty officer. Its hard to tell on foods, meds armour and soft weapons how much percentage on rank this gives. On donations however i found that appros 26k-28k in donations gave me 1% at Vice Admiral rank as you go down the ranks its approx 3K less each rank. Thanks for the heads up on this video and am looking forward to watching other videos and forthcoming ones Silvey

COMMANDERHAWK22 once you hit 100% on any rank, you'll need to find a mission that lists rank progression as a reward. These missions are normally listed as "do ____ " for your respective alliance you are working on. This was covered in this video. Once you hit 100% you can still gain progress towards the next rank so don't worry about your donations going to waste.

Just a quick update from me Troa. First: GRATZ on 6K (and growing) My net worth is now well over 100MCr so I am using the spare cash to fully fit out some fighters: Imperial Eagle: (after flying an ASP Explorer) a big disappointment Viper Mk3 -still a good ship Vulture: Trying that next While I think of it: I'm seeing an extra line in red text in pilot/ship details after taking kill pirate missions (Mission ...) This appears to be a v2.0 thing as I remember in v1.5 being frustrated getting no mission kill count on random WANTED ships (or LAWLESS ships that attacked me i.e.... pirates why would they not count towards my mission?)
@TroaBarton9 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Congratulations on earning that money you've done well! The imperial eagle isn't really a tool but rather a "luxury ship", the viper does its job well, but the vulture is probably the best combat ship for PVE. Others to consider are the federal assault ship, imperial courier, and the FDL. Thank you for the congratulations on the subscriber base. I keep watching go up daily and it's awesome!!

+Josef Venport I ordered my PC a few years ago from cyberpowerpc it's nothing special anymore.. I need to upgrade again.. I'm running an i7 3770k with a moderate overclock GTX 780 TI with a moderate overclock 8GB of ripsaw ram (which isn't enough) Standard Seagate HDD The magic is in Nvidias shadowplay quality I used to use OBS but shadowplay is now reliable enough for me to use.
@julianpearce2188 жыл бұрын
+Josef Venport I get a similar experience to Troa with:- 64Bit Windows 7 Home Premium I7 4790K CPU @ 4Ghz ( 64bit Quad core) 16GB RAM NVIDIA Geforce GT 640 (Good enough for a single 22 inch monitor) You can get away with a GPU of a lesser spec that Frontier recommends, but the more you spend on your GPU(s) the better your experience is likely to be. The actual game does not require a huge amount of CPU power (I am not overclocking at all and my cores run very cool when only ED is running, nor do you actually need 16GB RAM (assuming your GPU has its own RAM), however extra CPU power and RAM does become useful if you are going to be running EDDB or Rare trader (or your own spreadsheets/databases) in the background.

There shouldn't be a debate, it shouldn't take everyone giving his opinion on which is the fastest way to level up. They should just tell us how the friggin game works.
@julianpearce2188 жыл бұрын
+Geks YT You are underestimating the game this is NOT the kind of game that you can learn a sequence and repeat it endlessly. A core element of ED is the Back Ground Simulator (BGS). The game is deliberately dynamic, just like real life. Something that works today might not work the same way in a couple of months, weeks or even days. Every action every player makes changes the ED Universe every so slightly. consequently if everyone goes and does exactly the same thing in the same system, the game will (quite deliberately) change, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. Keep an eye on the news bulletins for clues as to HOW local space or the Universe overall is changing.

Just tried HR 1064 as I was close by ... not a sausage ! Having just ground 64% to rank up to Duke ... wondered if there was actually an easier way. Not at HE 1064 for me ! Tried a couple of the stations but nothing. I'm 100% aligned to all the Imperial factions there. For my grind Assassinations were the best missions followed by smuggling illegal cargos between stations. Have the Cutter now, so grinding away at Elite for trading (this is boring !!! ) any recommendations greatly received. Currently at 5 × 2.2 million credits per hour shipping Imperial Slaves .... back and forth, back and forth. Love the vids by the way

Yeah unfortunately RNG rears its head a lot, that and the BGS make it difficult to make videos like this. But with everyone asking me and the forums I figured I should. Good episode mate. I agree with you regarding the way that missions work in relation to ranking up, it seems ridiculous that 'Donation' missions are the fastest way to ascend in Military Rank. I too have sat in the Tun system racking up stacks of donation missions and not even having to take off anywhere or do anything until the 'Rank Progression' mission presents itself. In fact, missions in general and how they add very limited depth and variety to gameplay is a much talked about subject. Here's a good post on the subject: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4eTfGCZr76CgdE Even with the new addition of a progression percentage bar, ranking up and unlocking permits has never been clear and is often deliberately obscure with pilots encouraged to 'discover' the mechanics themselves. This is why there are so many inconsistencies in various player's - 'How to rank up and get permits' guides as they aren't fully clear on what's actually happening behind the scenes. This blog is the best explanation of how to understand the 'behind the scenes' mechanics and navigate the process that I have seen: bandofothersgaming.com/forum/showthread.php/2142-Elite-Dangerous-Militray-rank-progression-explained
@TroaBarton9 жыл бұрын
+CMDR Grey Wolfe Went ahead and read that blog post, 99% of it is absolute bull. Just like I said in my video reputation has absolutely nothing to do with your rank. Reputation allows you to see more missions and you need to be at least friendly to even accept a promotion mission. Compared to all that info you would think i'm leaving things out but it really is that cut and dry.
@CMDRGreyWolfe9 жыл бұрын
+Troa Barton ... maybe the Progression Bar wasn't the only thing they added/changed with this element of the game. That Blog isn't new so at the time it may well have been correct, but is now redundant. Like the caveats you put in your video - it was correct at the time of posting.
@TroaBarton9 жыл бұрын
+CMDR Grey Wolfe to be fair to it it was made at a time when we had no idea at all how ranking worked. We still don't know exactly what's going on but that rank bar now means that we can deduce a lot which we couldn't before.
@CMDRGreyWolfe9 жыл бұрын
+Troa Barton Correct. And I think that players sharing knowledge on what is a pretty complicated game is the best way to 'learn' the game. Certainly helped me immensely interacting with the community, following channels and third party sites.

Cubeo and Hip 10716 for Horizons players looking for empire rank, the latter being easier until you nail the assault routine for Cubeo. Any negative rep is a non-issue and it's pretty profitable. KZbin search for Cubeo base assault, hip 10716 is too easy to need a guide. ;)

They nerfed this big time. The missions still pop up in Tun, which is where I've decided to farm rep. Let me tell you... back in the day I did some rep farming for the FDS, and now I want a Corvette. I'm only 35% away from Rear Admiral. From 65%-75% I've easily spent 10m credits. That's no joke. It's about 1 million credits for 1% and that's not even guaranteed. These charity missions can range from 4-40 tons of any commodity they need. Or 25,000-1,000,000 credits if they need straight up cash. It's been brutal. Not sure if its been like this back when this video was made, but that's how it is now.
@BattleSloths8 жыл бұрын
Isn't 25,000 credits the same as 1,000,000? Why not just pick the cheaper ones?
@geminitiger9578 жыл бұрын
BattleSloths At Tun, very rarely did a 25,000 credit mission show up. They mostly were in the range of 300,000 credits or more. Eventually I got fed up with it and made the trip out to 17 Draconis. MUCH Better there success there. But I think you're right. The 25,000 credit missions were so rare for me though, I figured they just nerfed this. I spent a lot, alot.... Alot of money last night. :( and some of it even went towards unaffiliated factions too. What's done is done though, I eventually got my Vette anyway. dammit.
