C-4 can only be set off by a blasting cap, but the blasting cap is usually electrically detonated. My favorite EOD line: EDO Technician, "If you see me running, try to keep up." C-4 is poisonous, but you need to eat a lot of it.

Same with chocolate. The lethal dose is roughly 20 lb.

its both a job and skill. all us engineers know how to set and clear minefields and such but eod specializes in bomb removal on a much larger scale and all the time.

WW2 bombs were not fun. There were a lot of booby traps involved. Some of them had tamper fuses, others were timed fuses, sometimes there was a mix of fuses in a bomb run to try to take out EOD. EOD was fair game for both sides.

If there's an EOD technician actively working, they can yell at even a 4-star General, and the General will listen to therm.

My Aikido Sensei was a Navy Corpmen in Vietnam. He told me: The Marines had a hazing ritule where they put C4 in the new guy's coffee. To give him the shits.

They used Russian anti tank mines, they would build improvised explosive devices. A buddy of mine dug up an IED that was 3 anti tank mines stacked with an anti personal mine on top of that

My understanding when it comes to the bombs being used in Afghanistan is that while they were jury rigged most of the guys making them had an understanding of what they were doing. I believe they had engineers who knew exactly what they were doing teach them. Whether or not they always learned is questionable. Edible means it won’t kill you. Also C4 is much more stable then that and a taser will not set it off. It can only be detonated by a combination of extreme heat and shockwave such as from a detonator cap. C4 can be set on fire (it burns pretty good) and stomped on to no effect, shot at, exposed to microwaves, dropped, and thrown with out exploding. Basically only another explosion will detonate c4.

Which is something the grunts learned in Nam. To the point the claymores had to be guarded to prevent grunts from stealing some of the C4 to make food and coffee.
