Folks who complain about the supposed unintelligency of the Mass in Latin do not understand how soon many Catholics, for various reasons, come to nearly memorising the Lain of the Ordinary of the Mass. They hear it so frequently and devoutly lfollow the English translation that before long they know it all by heart. They may still need the text in hand for the Propers, but that leaves them overall for more time to behold the altar and what goes on there. When the parochial schools were well attended and taught Latin in their curriculum, Catholics in great nlumbers learned the Latin Mass that way, too.

Agreed. The whole "But no one speaks Latin argument" is so bad. St. Patrick converted druids with it.

Hi Gary can you please help me make a decision. I've been going all over the place trying to find the right missal. Dr.T Marchal says Lasance, others say Angelous Press and Baronius. Others the Saint Andrew or Joseph. What is it about the father Lasance you get that you don't in the other ones? And how do we make up for the lake of Kyriaes in the Lasance which is found in all the other ones? What is the main benefit in the Lasance besides the pretty pictures?

Thanks for reaching out! Hope my response will help you! Hopefully soon I will have a video out about the differences between the Fr. Lasance and the Angelus Press/others. But for now I will give you some Pros/Cons Fr. Lasance Pros: Has received a Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur (Pretty much a approval from a Bishop/Theologian saying that the Missal is error free/without error) Has very detailed descriptions about the Mass, rubrics of the Mass, vestments, sanctuary layout, etc. Contains beutiful pictures Does not do much cross referencing Latin and English same size font Pre-55 Holy Week Contains a glossary of liturgical terms Contains a account of the Saint of the Day Very beautiful an rich prayers Commentaries on the Mass and other things 6 Ribbons (Not a big one, but is more convenient) Fr. Lasance Cons: Some cross refrencing Latin/English on same page for the Ordinary of the Mass Does not contain the Kyriale (Mass settings/common chants) Binding is stiff, so you have to hold it open Does not contain Baptisimal rite, Confirmation, Extreme Unction, etc (Unless you are a Priest, it really wouldn't matter, except it is nice to follow along with) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Angelus Press Pros: Somewhat ok descriptions for the Mass, Sanctuary, Vestments, etc. Commentary of the Mass on the Margins of the Ordinary Text of the Mass Devotions for Confession and other prayers are good Latin and English on seperate pages for the Ordinary of the Mass Does contain Kyriale Binding is not tight, so you can open the Missal and it will stay open on the page you want Contains Baptisimal rite, Confirmation, Extreme Unction, etc Angelus Press Cons: HAS NOT recived a Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur Contains reformed Pian Holy Week Much Cross referencing No pictures Latin is smaller font than English for the Propers of the Mass Only 5 ribbons ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for your question about the Kyriale, and how to make up for it if you purchase the Fr. Lasance, there are multiple ways to go about it. One possible option is to go to www.institute-christ-king.org/resources/sacred-music OR www.ccwatershed.org/kyriale/ and follow along on a phone or tablet during Mass. However, the biggest thing about this one is that someone might find it disrespectful to be on your phone during Mass. The second option is to print the PDFs out from the websites linked above, and follow along that way. Another option, but non-free one, would be to purchase a seperate Kyriale.
