So much of internet commentary is baseless. It would be like me having a strong negative opinion about all of the downsides of being a billionaire. I am not one and never will be. And while we might be able to imagine some downsides, I bet most billionaires live quite well. The KZbin reviewers themselves are often reluctant to come right out and say "this is silly - these are all great cars (RRs, BMWs, Mercs, Bentleys, etc). It doesn't suck to own any of them". The only thing that remains is the RELATIVE difference or pluses/minuses, but a lot of the commenters treat these relative differences as absolutes: all RRs do this bad thing, or that one. I love KZbinrs like James - could listen to him talk about paint drying. And I get sucked into the comments where every baseless comment has the same weight as a reasoned, objective comment.@@ogearhead2426

18:26 Jay the reason why so many cars were waiting for parts was because JLR moved their entire parts stock warehouse to a new site - all at once. Was absolute chaos and something like 140,000 parts got misplaced in the process and still havent been found. Also JLR told their parts suppliers 'we are moving to this new site, send new stock here if you cant figure it out we wont be using you anymore' and funnily enough a fair few said fine, so theyve been trying to sort that out as well with new suppliers. Amazing logistics throughout 👍
@monzarace7 ай бұрын
Some parts are really hard to get, and some just take a few days. The ware house move is true though, and every single time, the dealers roll their eyes and say they are sorry. That must be tiresome, as it's really hitting JLR in a not so good way. Without meaning this too harsh, I guess there's a reason that so many British companies wither went bust or got bought by foreign companies. They want the names and brands for pushing their own crap. As for the theft, there are many other brands that gets stolen the same way. As far as I was told, JLR made some software updates and asks owners not to keep their keys close to the car - correspondence. Cheers.

Hi James, would like to hear more of your thoughts on Range Rover thefts, in like a sit-down-and-talk style video you sometimes do. I rarely watchMark McCann's videos but the several ones he's done on car security have been very eye-opening. Its quite crazy that a few people can't get quotes from JLR's own insurance. Great comments section on this one! I had a RRS Dynamic Autobiography for three years. Great car to drive, was a bit of a dream fulfilled. But three faults, each requiring going into the workshop, in three years on a £90K car isn't acceptable. And it needed an extra oil service despite the low mileage. Just as I was thinking of moving it on my (mainstream) insurers wrote to me saying they wouldn't renew at any price, and I live in the sticks and had as good a record as you could have. I was glad to shift it on when I did at the back end of Covid when used car prices were going up. Jay looked past the SVR MPG which is truly ridiculous for a daily driver and the continuing massive depreciation. All in all this is a great car that no one should own, which to be fair to Jay is sort of his conclusion.

@wfifa1998 ай бұрын
What made it better for you over the other cars that you listed?
@stevewight20008 ай бұрын
It struck the perfect balance. First of all, the size is great for British roads. The looks, to me, are lovely also. Mines silver with chrome detailing and the supercharger embossed wheels (found on many an XKR). The build quality is lovely - no squeaks and rattles whatsoever (unlike the facelifts modes that followed). Superb powerplant. 6 speed ZF - I much prefer this to the 8 speed which I had in my XJR 575 (575 rattles and squeaked too much so it had to go). The ride quality is perfectly judged. In comfort it’s comfortable and in dynamic its dynamic but still supple. The ride balance in the XKR was too harsh in comfort and way too harsh in dynamic. Bentley wallowed but didn’t actually ride that well. S63 was just ill judged. AMG GTS was too stiff by a country mile. The bowers and Wilkins sound d system in XFR is majestic. Later meridians are shit and the speakers rattle. Steering is a joy. I’ve upgraded the brakes and they’re a joy with a firm pedal feel. Seats are dreamily luxurious. It’s got the right amount of tech for me - my 2018 S63 was just trying too hard with way too much going on. Throttle response with the supercharged engine is delightful. Noise is perfectly judged. Handling and grip are wonderful with the PS4’s. It’s just a great car that’s been well thought out. And it’s practical as hell. I love it.

They are fabulous when they work (the operative word being "when") but they are so woefully poorly built, and unreliable...I doubt I'll ever buy another. It felt like mine spent more time at the main dealer, than it did on the road (my 2019 Autobiography was a particularly bad experience). A car shouldn't be a cause of daily stress/anxiety. For me, I need to be confident that it isn't just going to decide not to work when I get in it. For this reason, RR are an epic fail. I used to work as a contractor to JLR. The RRS SVR was properly raucous and hilarious in the short-term. However, RR in general are just disappointing in most regards. For me, assuming that you're the kind of affluent buyer that can forgive/ignore foibles and reliability issues, I'm guessing that attention to detail would be important, yet reach for the start/stop button, and you've already encountered your first cheap, nasty cost-cutting part. Obviously, you can spec up knurled trim, etc, but it's more bling than quality. Of the all the 'premium auto' companies that I've dabbled for, JLR are the most disappointing. If a company could rightfully suffer from imposter syndrome, I present to you the no.1 contender.

I really fancy one of these but for me it would have to be a ULEZ compliant 3 litre diesel one. One day my X350 XJ will expire and then I'll have decide between one of these and an XF. I'm guessing that the XF will be quicker and more economical, whereas the RR Sport will be more comfortable.

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. In its lifetime, it’ll consume around 10,000 gallons (5 tons) of petrol, plus all the other consumables, often just to shift one person (62% of all journeys) from A to B. Sustainable?

We sell lots of them, They're like an off road Bentley to drive nothing else comes close, Its the way they make you feel when your behind the wheel which is indefinable and some people just won't get it, Yes they have there faults but so does every Brand and when they reach a certain price point around mid £25 k they become affordable to some people who can't afford to maintain them properly and that's when they become unreliable and problematic, Remember that a £70k car is still going to cost the same to maintain and repair when it becomes a £20k car.

If something is to be considered "luxury" then it first needs to be able to perform it's basic functions reliably. Then the durability must also prove to be robust enough to provide those functions over the length of time beyond that of cheaper alternatives, and provide the user with an experience that justifies the price they are being asked to pay for the experience. It just seems like Land Rover has forgotten these prerequisites, and the heritage that their new offerings fail to match.

Could you do a comparison with a standard Range Rover Sport, maybe a HSE or Autobiography, but with the 5.0 supercharged engine. I believe they had 510bhp oppose to the 575bhp of the SVR. Would be interesting to see if that car would still provide the excitement but with a more comfortable ride at low speeds and when driving around town.

I used to hate range rovers. But now... I dunno... Maybe it's the pure idiocy of the vehicle. I love them now. A vehicle that is luxurious, unreliable, off road capable for no reason? Lolololol. This appeals to the American in me.

This Murcan has one (just the V-6) and rather likes it. It has been oddly reliable, but that may just be dumb luck. I know someone who bought a TD6 and the engine grenaded almost immediately (the crank sheared), which is apparently a thing which they do.

The biggest problem with any JLR 3.0 or 5.0 Supercharged engine is the engine itself. There's several plastic coolant pipes, manifolds, and thermostats; that will leak coolant, causing the engine to explode. There's the timing chains and tensioner. They always seem to have a bit of slack. Which will cause the engine to jump timing and then the engine will explode. And Wednesdays can also cause the engine to explode. Don't own one without an extended warranty and one must be religious on the maintenance. Even if you are up to date on the maintenance, the engine will eventually explode. I worked as a JLR tech for seven years. I know what I'm on about.
