Its refreshing to see a book review from a old school tyer . I like your style of tying and your passion for the sport. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Thank you so much Dave. I appreciate your comment. Some of new way tiers are lost in my opinion.... Looks more like LEGO assembly than proper tying. But i am in no way against new materials. Cheers Vladimir

Based on your review of this book, I ordered it from a local seller on Etsy. If the author is half as good as you are, it'll be a worthwhile purchase... Thanks for the recommendation.

Great video Vladimir. I like the use of a pen to mark the termination spots for materials. I tie a similar fly for bluegills, sunfish, and bass. Gonna try Gordon's version cause of the bugginess of the marabou, I use straggle string for the body. Maybe someone can gift me his book for my birthday. "Hints already given to my wife". Great job my friend.

excellent review and use of photography to illustrate the concepts. I agree with your analysis entirely - Van Der Spuy brings analytical thinking and art to improve our craft and understanding, and uses his humor and personal experience to make the lessons really applicable and approachable.

First time have watched you tie. Thanks for book review and thinking I will attempt to find and purchase. The marabou you use looks very different and not seen any like that before and not sure where to find that item. Hope you will answer. Thanks

Hello, glad you liked the review. Marabou is regular one from hareline. This is part that is closer to the feather tips. Hence that taper and thin tips.

Thankd for that great review. I htik its what many of our want and need. I too love 'old style' books and have just a few. There were two great ones in our local library, but they were stolen (I strongly suspect) and the people just paid for them, claiming they were lost. One was a fantastic basic fly tying book focussiing on materials and techniques-with excellent practical descriptions and BW photos. It was written by a woman. I sure wish I had it or access to it even now thatI seem to know what I:m doing. :-). Anyway. you are doing a great service. best wishes from 'down under', :-)
