18:03 "I find that there is some confusion about these...." (proceeds to add to the confusion). Andy, the Bass VI is actually a bass. Tuned to the same octave as a normal bass with the addition of a B string and a high E string. The instrument is tuned 1 octave below standard guitar tuning, the same range as a normal bass guitar, but with an extended higher range and shorter than normal scale length (30").

Enjoyed the review of the Bass VI, but want to stress the info about the octave it's in is wrong. The low E on a regular guitar is about 83hz, for a bass it's just one octave lower at about 41hz (two octaves lower would be more felt than heard). The Bass VI is also 41hz. It is a bass, with the same scale length as a short scale bass. It will sound different than say a P or Jazz bass due to different strings, pickups, and especially if it's played through a guitar instead of bass amp. It's an incredibly versatile instrument.

The 60’s strat sounded the best to me. Aesthetically, I liked the no caster and the 60’s tele best. And the bass (baritone electric?) was a pleasure to listen to. I’m looking forward to your future presentations on them individually. Another great video, gentlemen.

Andy, a 4 string bass is 1 octave lower than a guitar’s lowest 4 strings. A bass vi is also 1 octave lower than a guitar. A bass is not 1 octave lower than a bass vi, which would be 2 octaves lower than a guitar. It can be confusing. 18:04

Cool guitars. I don't find this sunburst very appealing though. Why is there a shortage on yellow on all the latest Fender sunbursts? it's a sort of black to brown. What happened to the yellow in the 50s sunburst and the red and yellow in the 60s and 70s?
@TREVORJB101 Жыл бұрын
Agreed..they all look very cheap like on a Squier. I've noticed you've gotta go Custom Shop or American Vintage to get a proper sunburst..and even some of the AV ones are hit and miss..

I new this was coming because they discounted the Vintera line in the last few months. Because they’re reintroducing rosewood fretboards and unloading the PaoFerro. Next will be the Player and Plsyer Plus line.

I ended up grabbing the Bass VI in Lake Placid Blue and I'm so glad I did it. I had a Squier one that I was about to upgrade with a mute, some Curtis Novak pickups and an AVRI trem, and these things leaked... so I held off and sold the Squier. The pickups that come with the Vintera II are pretty darn nice, nice enough that I think I wouldn't have upgraded them if I hadn't already bought the pickups, lol. I got the pickups in with some LaBella flat wounds and it's so much fun to play. I always love your reviews, and then of course I could listen to Cooper play guitar all day, so I always stick around for that.

I’m so sorry, but a bass guitar actually is just one octave lower than a normal guitar. So yes, even though it feels and sounds different, the Fender Bass VI is NOT an octave higher than a bass guitar. It’s exactly the same. So the Bass VI is indeed a 6 string bass guitar.

I've got a Vintera (I) and it's supposed to have "Pau Ferro" (Honduran rosewood) but it's absolutely indistinguishable from the rosewood on any of my other guitars. Either the factory accidentally put rosewood on, (doubtful) or it's just a very dark example of PF. In either case, it's indistinguishable from rosewood and I'm tickled pink. I will say, however, that the pickups on the 60s vintera sound quite thin to my ears. They're not very "full" if you know what I mean. That's fine some of the time and I guess it's why we have more than one guitar! Is that how they really were in the 60s? I don't know to be honest.
@IndigoJo Жыл бұрын
Vintera isn't a word in itself in Spanish but vinta is - it means vintage, and so vintero/a could be a derivative of it (I'm guessing the feminine was used because the Spanish for guitar also is).

That would require some thought. IIRC, the first bender was made in 67 or 68, in a 54 guitar...what era would you put it in? Market for benders would be small and you couldn't make enough people happy. It's better to pick your favorite guitar and add a bender. For me it was a Vintera 50s + a Glaser bender.

@@jim232777 Time spent ordering/buying/waiting on delivery, then disassembling the guitar.... to ship the body off.... packing and shipping fees.... waiting weeks, even months to get it back, then reassembling the guitar, in alot of cases people would pay to have it done. If they made a modified version of the olympic white with the truss rod on the top side the guitar would be a killer. I know it is the vintage spec but the truss rod on the heel is really inconvenient if you adjust a lot.
@belmontbutty4143 Жыл бұрын
Agree it is more convenient at the headstock, but just loosen and capo your strings at the first fret before unscrewing the bolts. It's still more of a pain but it won't cost you a set of strings.

A 4 string ‘is a lower octave than a Bass VI’⁉️ A Bass VI ‘is not a bass guitar’? If he was still alive, perhaps you could explain that to Jack Bruce in his Manfred Mann and Cream era‼️ The bottom EADG string on a Bass VI are, effectively, the same strings as those on a Precision or Jazz - the Bass VI is tuned EADGBe - i.e. everything one octave down from a ‘conventional’ 6-string guitar tuning - as opposed to the (usual tunings of) BEADG of a modern 5 string, and BEADGC of a modern 6 string bass. In ALL those cases the lowest E is the SAME octave note. Research… a wondrous thing. Oh, and Vintera II Strats have a 5, not 3, way p/u switch; as well as, what appears on screen at least as, reddish (as opposed to the ‘vintage correct’ VERY yellow) ‘burst centres, which just looks weird.
