Well if you ever get one let’s just hope that you are not very tall. I remember falling in love with the 308 myself watching Magnum PI back in the 80’s but I also could not help but notice that they never put the top on and that Tom Selleck’s head stuck up several inches above the roof line. And since we are both about the same height I knew at once that if I ever owned a 308 or a 328 that I would never be able to drive it with the top on. Of course, today I would much prefer some of the newer models of Ferrari, which hopefully are designed with taller drivers in mind.

@egold2071 Жыл бұрын
Interesting side note: The producers initially went to Porsche, and asked them to use the 928 as the star car for Magnum P.I. But they needed it to be a convertible or at least a targa because Hawaii. Porsche rejected this opportunity, and thus fame for the 328, failure for the 'other' -28.

They had to take the seat mounts off of the seat and mount the seat directly to the floor for him. That's how they created the extra space for him. Of course he never had the top on, so that helped too.

I think Magnum PI used the older Ferrari 308, not a 328. I do remember that he had to have the targa model with the roof always off because he was too tall to fit inside the coupes. Either way, if I lived in Hawai'i, I'd want a convertible too.

The 328 is commonly called the “Toyota” because it’s so reliable and well made, compared to other Ferrari’s it’s an easy car to own. My father had 1979 308 gtb that was incredible to drive, but had a lot of problems even with expert care. He then had a 1987 328 gtb (which got stolen) and then a 1989 328gtb which was an amazing car, and so reliable he drove it daily for 15 years (he lives in Arizona so it’s not like he had to store it for the winter). @@MultiWalrus1 I purchased a UK car magazine on the 288 GTO in very late 1984 when it had just been released ! That magazine is now a collector's item and sells for $ US200. My mom accidentally threw it out . . . Nooo! It gets even more weird. Initialook I got called a liar at school as nobody believed Ferrari would make a turbo road car, yet alone a twin turbo V8. In Australia our school holidays are from mid-December to often tge first few days of February due to it being summer. One honest guy, when school returned came up apologised and showed me pictures of him in a 288 GTO. He want to Italy in December '84 and obviously came back by February 1985. His uncle had purchased a 288 GTO ! ! ! NO one could believe it. He told us that it was the best experience in his life especially when his uncle let him drive it. Unfortunately, Australian road rules prohibited Left Hand Drive ( Lhd) cars and the luxury car taxes were brutal. E,g. the Testarossa & Countach cost $AU500K OR $US380,000 by 1985. Australian luxury car tax was 70 % of the sales price on a luxury car. This guy was devastated as his dad wanted to import a Ferrari 288 GTO. They were comfortably middle class but not outright wealthy. They purchased a Ferrari 328 GTS as it was near impossible to obtain a 328 GTB in Oz. NOTE - To date there are only about 5 or less Ferrari 328 GTB's that are RHD and they sell $US150,000 over a GTS model. I know as a close friend of mine tied to purchase one 9 years ago and the owner wouldn't budge on his $AU500k asking price. It was also a very rare blue with white interior model. Dohhhh . .. again.

I have this exact year and color combo 328 and think you guys did a great job reviewing it and conveying how special and fun it is to drive. What starts out a bit awkward and clunky at low speed becomes a spirited driving experience once the car gets into a stride. At higher speeds on country roads, it really is a grand tourer like the "GTS" in the model name suggests. On a sunny day at 60-70mph, it's just amazing, and it really doesn't get much better than this. I think the 328 hit a narrow late-80s window where some cars were still very very analog (not for long). The reliability aspect makes the 328 a great entry level collector car for aspiring Ferrari enthusiasts. I put about 1000 miles a year on mine and it's never given me a lick of trouble. It's also very easy to work on and maintain. Values are still just barely affordable for normal folks, but are on the rise, so it's a decent investment if you need another reason to consider one. Here's a tidbit about size -- the 328 has about the same wheelbase and width as a ND Miata, but is lower. It's longer at the nose by about a foot, but overall this car is smaller than a Miata! The thing is, in person, the striking looks give it far more presence and it seems bigger. It's not until you compare dimensions, get inside, and drive the 328 that it becomes apparent it's a really small car.

Holy hell the volume is all over the place. Edit: this video is not up to Doug's normal standard. Volume issues, poping audio and no link to "this" car on cars and bids even after 2 hours.

This guy did a good job. Legitimately better than most of us. He is new to Doug style. Doug may let his personality come out more later to develop his style over time.

Magnum, P.I. sold this car...fun fact, in the original scripts for the show, Tom Selleck was supposed to tool around in a Porsche 911 Targa. However, Porsche was unwilling to provide a few cars for filming, so the producers approached Ferrari, who, surprisingly, obliged...

Disagree. It was weak and mumbled, with Doug cutting in on him talking about his 355 all the time. If I'd heard something actually interesting from him about the 3X8 lineage, I'd agree with you - Ferrari expert - really?

In France, (and possibly other parts of Europe), it was a legal requirement to carry spare bulbs. If you got pulled over for having a failed lamp, and could change it there and then, you didn't get fined. Nowadays, this is difficult as most lamp replacements involve a visit to a garage.

Good video Doug but one thing you didn't mention: as I recall, in 1982 Ferrari added 4 valve/cylinder heads to the 308 GTS engine, becoming one of the first if not THE first automaker to offer 4 valves per cylinder in the modern (1980s lol) era. The 4 valve heads carried over to the 328 GTS/GTB which debuted with the 328 punched out engine in '86...all as i recalled. The 308/328GTS/GTB was the defining Ferrari in the 80s Magnum PI had one, Sammy Hagar drove one in his I can't drive 55 video even ALF bought one

Doug, I like how your brand is developing with C&B...but your channel name is "Doug Demuro". Never forget, it is you who viewers look for. Demands on your time change--but phasing out your presence on car reviews will be detrimental to the channel. We can watch car reviews anywhere on KZbin but we come here, largely for you! Take this comment how you wish...

Ferrari as a brand is very underrated as it is! Despite being a great car to drive, they are very rare to see on the roads😉
@horsepower523 Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you are. If you go to Monaco or Switzerland then you'll see more Ferraris than any other car. And besides, Ferraris are supposed to be rare and exclusive.
@Variable_Degree_Series Жыл бұрын
@@horsepower523 do you understand the meaning of the word sarcasm? Have you lost all of your humour? And besides, its less rare to see ferraris in Switzerland, its still not like what you make them sound! They don't sell like Camry or Accord in the States! They are still quite rare even there! You will find more exotic cars in New York (the population is high and the per capita income of NY is higher than Switzerland and Monaco!)

@@Variable_Degree_Series I was being sarcastic too in my previous comment. Didn't you get it?! I'm really surprised that a person who's as smug and full of himself as you are couldn't detect my OBVIOUS sarcasm. Hmm, that's weird. If you didn't get that, then just get some social life bro.

Doug has trained his presenting to perfection (with a lot of humor) - cannot be replaced by anyone, sorry. Happy that the horn test is back! 😊 BTW I can't believe the 328 only got one more point in styling and cool factor than the Porsche 944 😅
@Lukas-eh4cf Жыл бұрын
I think it is fitting, i don't like its appearence as much as other Ferraris and it is also fairly normal in comparison. Price and make aren't the only things that make a car cool.

@@Lukas-eh4cf Sure, the 328 isn't among the top 10 nicest Ferraris, but the 944 is just, well, plain as fuck IMO! I'm not necessarily saying the Ferrari should have been rated higher, but maybe the Porsche should've been rated lower.
