The F40 is a car for men: analog, manual shifter, brutal. To drive it requires physical fitness. To drive it in anger, one must be a pro. Unlike newer sports cars, where I saw grannies driving pink Lambos. I know a guy that owns ALL Ferrari models since 1960s that also races the FXX Ferraris, he told me he prefers driving the F40 to all others.

It's the essence of Supercar. It is so pure, boiled down to the salt in everything it does and conveys. Even the Turbo V8 sounds incredible, (best sounding to date imho) with natural pops and crackles on the overrun, and not like the modern contrived pops and bangs we have heard in the last 10 years. Lightweight too, full of feel. It would be a difficult choice between this and only one other: the F50. But I'd choose this one, because it would not just be an event to drive once, I would have to learn how to drive the car, better, and better.

Just double clutch - with a blip on the accelerator - back if you see the revs become to low . This way you have always instant power and no lag ! Every rallydriver knows this .......

Controversial but some would say even Enzo himself would agree with these bolt-on (reversible if needed) updates - change out those 1987 IHI lag monster turbos for ball bearing units. Goodbye lag. Same with that 8-bit ECU - Get a Motec. Get the latest Brembos on ceramic discs and consider carbon fiber wheels. Better car now? Hell yes. And bar the rims. It still looks bone stock. I'd do it.

The other thing that many don't know is that the F40 used the CR114 "rally" engine with high torque, instead of 114 CK with over 600 hp that should have been used for track/racing (F40 LM/Competizione ??). That's why it still out-accelerated the F50 and later cars. Rally engines have better acceleration but less top power/speed.

@@ripptorr 114 and 120 are probably just engine revision numbers of same engine, CR/CK two different personalies,with some updated parts, back then turbos evolved extremely quickly. As Materazzi himself said, there are not many new serial cars with much bigger torque/l displacement (and weight, IMHO) ratio.And torque is a rally thing, Delta S4 was from same period, possibly they cross pollinated with Lancia/Abarth as Materazzi worked there on Stratos rally car.

@abdullahalibrahim4418 😂 i know what you are saying, but that's exactly the mistake what "normal" people always make. If you just don't know you can't see much difference, but for the loonies like me who can see and who do know what this is, the 288GTO is a complete different story. For me it's McLaren F1 and the Ferrari 288GTO and for the last 30 years i'm still not sure which one is in first or in second place. The reason why the F40 is not up there fighting with these 2, is because of the big brother the 288GTO.

I'm going to say no. McLaren F1.... NA V12 trumps turbocharged V8. F1 sounds better, is even lighter, and rarer. Judging by reviews the new T50 could be the new GOAT in terms of the driving experience for a usable supercar!

90% of all F40s have not been crashed due to excessive turbo lag 😂, 90% of the ones which have crashed may have been due to sudden boost, most likely combined with old hard tires, just like a Porsche 930 you have you learn to not let the turbo spool up suddenly on corners. But the car is a great driver, you get used to it very quickly, and what makes it soo special is the whole package including it's looks which was in its day the first. Unfortunately the F50 looks like a copy, and a bad one, soo bad that nobody can get past that to hear it's engine

My friend... I have no clue what your talking about and i think neither do you. . Ive owned an F40 for over 20 years #1, the lag isnt horrendous. the lag is horrendous on a 930 porsche and a 2002 turbo. On an F40 its actually quite linear. Listen to the last upshift on the video and that will tell you everything. #2 boost onset wont upset the car unless of course your in the middle of a corner like any other car. and #3 the saying most have been crashed??? from what data?? Its an amazing experience to drive!! no need say things that are totally untrue, and create lasting misconceptions just to make a show
