Nah, you're not alone. I've always liked this episode and I can't exactly say why. In retrospect I think it might just be David's great acting (as opposed to the guest actress...). Mulder feels vulnerable the whole episode and David really conveys Mulder's struggle between his rational and believing side, reinforced by his obvious but subdued anger towards the leader of the sect. One of David's best episodes, I'd say. Just my two cents.

Now, granted, Tyrion was discriminated against for physical appearance, while Fox is discriminated against for his beliefs. (I started typing this before you mentioned it on the video) This episode was obviously a thinly veiled reference to the David Koresh/Waco siege by the FBI and ATF, and Hollywood re-writing history to make the government the heroes. The accusation of stockpiles of illegal machine guns, and allegations of child abuse (that to the best of my knowledge were never confirmed to be true). There's also an episode of Criminal Minds that is VERY similar too (season 4 episode 3 "Minimal Loss").

Man, this one is just so damn good. I am a sucker for history, have fragmented memories of how I died in a past life and it connects with me. In my opinion, this realm is purgatory and we live multiple lives until we prove ourselves worthy of ascending to a heavenly plain. So, yeah, I think the episode is quite emotional and heavy... I think it works. Oh, and CSM could've died in WW2 in a past life after taking out Mulder. If it happened in 1941 and he was born a few months later, he would've been almost sixty by the time this episode aired. So, it's within the realm of possibility.

It goes on and on, where the thing they are creating gets smaller and smaller and in the end, the man ends up with nothing. Common thing for comedy theater groups to put up. Anyway, this episode felt like that. You just waited and waited for everything to pay off in the end, but instead, you ended up with nothing. The episode had no effect on the characters in the end.
