Friday afternoon.. birds singing outdoors.. not much on hand and not much on mind.. that is when tv would play an old western and I’d sit and watch with my special cup of tea till the right end. Loved every movie they played. Each one had a great plot to lay, well scripted and well performed. Can’t say I have watched this one but here I am watching it thanks to you. 👋🏻😊

One thing I can say: I would never want to be a crook and have a Hugh O'brien on my tail. I'm a big fan of this guy! This is indeed an unusual Western. I haven't watched it yet and I really like it! My grade is 10! Thanks, and we're together!

This movie was originally titled The Hell-Bent Kid, and was changed shortly before advertisements were made for theaters. Evans contends that the name and poor advertising (referring to his character as a “kooky killer”) destroyed the production company and nearly his acting career. His performance garnered good reviews but the movie bombed in theaters and was quickly forgotten. Evans acted in The Best of Everything (a fun movie) and retired from acting to become a producer, and was “discovered” by Charles Bluhdorn and handed the job of head honcho at Paramount. Crazy business.

That's interesting. They're was a western novel called "The Hell-Bent Kid" by Charles O. Locke which was filmed under the title "From Hell To Texas" the same year this was made.

Before Norman Bates freaked out audiences in _Psycho_ , there was Felix Griffin! Here is an interesting attempt to make a western movie in a film noir style. Worth watching just to see how a dangerous, but intelligent, psychopath wreaks havoc in what would otherwise be a mostly dull western drama. I saw this movie on TV when I was a kid - and it made an impression. It's great to watch it again and to see what the filmmakers were really going for here. Also, this is a 20th Century Fox film - and believe it or not, they re-used Bernard Herrmann's music from _The Day The Earth Stood Still_ in the opening credits of this movie. Perhaps they did this to prepare their viewers for a horror show - but set in the old west. Just wow! Perhaps worth a remake.

Robert Evans had a well documented run as head of paramount studios as seen in the documentary The kid stays in the picture with a hilarious imitation of Evans by Dustin Hoffman.

this reminds me that this was about the time of the very eccentric actors James Dean & Brando - Robert Evans (Griffin) seems to fit into that group - except he's much more annoying - fortunately - he didn't stay a working actor for very long - and went on to become a producer (Chinatown) - and 7-time husband
