HAJJ - the fifth pillar of Islam, after faith, prayer, fasting and charity. This annual pilgrimage draws millions of Muslims from around the world to the sacred precincts of the holy city of Makkah.
During the Islamic holy month of Dhul Hijjah, join Cambridge Muslim College as we explore the Hajj, with lectures that add depth to our understanding of the greater pilgrimage and its place in Muslim thinking and practice.
This year, we explore the mechanics of Hajj. From making intention and preparation, to the Day of Arafah and subsequent advent of Eid Al-Adha, learn about how Hajj is performed, beginning to end.
In this session (1/3), Dr Talal Al-Azem, Academic Director, Cambridge Muslim College, explores the origins and history of Hajj, conditions that must be met to perform Hajj, making of the intention, and subsequent preparations for the journey to Makkah.
