That morning, Ralphie got the C+ on his Christmas theme--and a "You'll Shoot your eye out" from Ms. Shields. He felt he'd never get the BB gun. Compounded by the fact that Scut (or Grover?) threw the snowball right at his glasses, Ralphie was SO upset, and that's when the sh-- hit the fan. Needless to say, Scut didn't tease anybody for quite some time afterwards.

It's pathetic. I'm Ralphie (the victim) and they're Dill and Farkus (they're bullies; word bullies, not violent but take my word for it, words hurt just as much). And the holier-than-thou administrator gets on my case just for yelling. Is she grateful I am not violent? Nooo, that's not enough for her, I am not allowed to yell or cry, either. @@Johnlindsey289 It would have been great if it showed Scut and Grover in another scene (maybe the mall scene when they're waiting in line to see Santa) with Scut wearing a nose cast saying to Ralphie that he was sorry for how he's been acting towards him and promises not to bully anymore and at least thanks him for beating him up explaining that he needed a wakeup call. Regarding Scut being scared of Ralphie, I wonder if that could be an option which is why Grover ran away saying that he's telling his dad. Plus, I can only wonder if Ralphie, Randy, Flick, and Schwartz are feeling scared when the school year starts since Scut and Grover have been chasing them to and from school every day.

@@afriendofbean I think they got it pretty good in the movie when he finally sits up after his pummeling with blood on his face, sniffling his nose from all of that painful crying. It’s the only time in the movie where we see him without that raccoon skin hat and crazily laughing. Ralphie literally beat the bully out of him.

@@MovieLover1995 That could be an option too but, if Grover's dad was a cop, Grover and his dad would have been back soon but, Randy was a lot faster in getting the mom at 1:09 and 1:32-1:37 even though he was all bundled up in that snow suit which causes him to move slowly. However, if Grover's dad was really a cop and if he was going to put Ralphie in a kids mental hospital as Minstrel Piece Theater says, I could picture Flick and Schwartz sticking up for Ralphie where both of them could say "Officer Dill, your son Grover and this guy Scut having been bullying all three of us whenever we go to and from school" and Flick could say "also Officer Dill, look what this guy Scut has done to my eye before I headed into school" since Scut has given Flick a bruised eye before Flick went into school as seen that his right eye still looks bruised at 1:39. For that, maybe Grover's dad would put Scut in a mental hospital realizing Ralphie was defending himself. Plus, I'm sure from 0:14-0:28, Ralphie was at wits end thinking to himself "I don't know about Flick and Schwartz but I'm getting sick and tired of being chased to and from school by Scut and Grover." Especially Ralphie already had anger inside him not getting the grade he wanted on his essay getting commented "you'll shoot your eye out" which he didn't want to hear.

That Kenny Rogers song may have a good moral to it, but frankly, in my personal opinion, "turning the other cheek" sometimes is just not good enough(not that I'd beat a bully or enemy up NOW, as I'm grown up), but what I mean is, sometimes you really do have to give an enemy or tormentor an appropriate requital for an insult,e.g., like if they really have offended you beyond endurance, say. One can only take so much abuse, be pushed only so far, just like what is shown here when Scott Farcus gets his comeuppance from Ralphie. I'm guessing that Scott is probably supposed to be eleven,and in sixth gradeif he and Ralphie go to the same school and Ralphie is nine and in fourth grade. And maybe Grover is supposed to actually be younger than Ralphie, even(OK, even if he is capable of cowing Ralpie and Ralphie's two pals), still, children who are not exactly the tough type can even get bullied by younger kids as well as kids their own age and older. So good to see Scott reduced to tears himself and a bloody nose, and even bareheaded in cold December weather(he lost his hat as Ralphie was beating him up.) His and Grover's "snowball sandwich" to Ralphie really was the last straw.

@@MrJamieMurph4141969 Well, that's actually the whole thing with the song. Tommy, the main character in it constantly walks away from trouble because of a promise he made to his dying father. But when the 3 Gatlin brothers rape Becky, his love, it's the last straw and he's pushed too far, and he makes them pay for it. At the end of the song it even says, ''Sometimes you gotta fight when you're a man.'' The message being, if you can walk away from a fight you probably should, but sometimes you have to take a stand too. As for Scut Farkus and Grover Dill, I always got the impression Grover was the same age as Ralphie and his friends, kinda like he's the bully of their grade, and Scut is about 2 or 3 years older. Also got the impression that they don't necessarily go to school. They most likely tell their parents they're going, and then cut. Either way, yeah, Farkus got what he deserved. Dill got lucky and got off easy with just one shot to the chest, but yeah Farkus was definitely taught a lesson he wouldn't forget. If you notice too, when Ralphie is pounding him, all the other kids are happy and cheering Ralphie on, because they probably have been menaced by Scut and Grover as well.

@TW38824 I have always wondered about that too if Grover was going to get his dad to stop the fight or if he was going to tell his dad that Ralphie punched him (where I guess his dad would say, "Grover, if you and Scut never bullied Ralphie and his friends from the beginning, maybe Ralphie wouldn't of punched you). Or, someone else said that maybe Grover's dad was a cop and would arrange for Ralphie to be put away in an orphanage for attacking physically causing Ralphie's parents to lose custody over him.

0:31 Always loved the attention they gave to Grover Dill in this scene. He’s obviously never seen Scut Farkus in a position like the ass-kicking he’s rightfully deserving. Classic bully move that they don’t count on their tormented to fight back and he’s visibly shocked. 0:38 Dill is so disturbed that he worriedly tries to stop the pummeling that Ralphie is giving but quickly finds out that it’s best to stay away from this situation as he cowardly runs away after he gets smacked away, fleeing with an empty threat of telling his dad, who likely beats him the same way.

@@TheHatGuy1500 Yes, I can only hope both Scut and Grover stopped being bullies after this and decided not to wait for Ralphie, Randy, Flick, and Schwartz to pass by everyday going to and from school (it always showed a fast-paced scene of them getting chased). I know after this scene was when Ralphie, Randy, Flick, and Schwartz started their Christmas holiday, and it only makes me wonder if after the holiday if Scut and Grover would be waiting for them somewhere. Otherwise, after this scene it would have been great if it showed a scene of Scut again wearing a nose cast apologizing to Ralphie for all his bullying and promises he won't do it anymore and he at least thanks Ralphie for beating him up saying that he needed a wakeup call. (I guess one reason Scut wasn't on the second film was because he probably got sent to jail for his bullying or he moved out of the neighborhood since in this scene he looks like a boy attending college).
