What I love about bale is he's one of a few actors that truly dissappear into a character. You're not watching bale act, you're watching his character. Truly awe inspiring.

Dicky stepping back to really take a look at Micky as if it's for the first time is incredible. Love this scene and love this movie.
@erickirchhoff924 Жыл бұрын
It’s crazy how changing your surroundings can make you become a better version of yourself. All about who you surround yourself with. Because once Dickie came back into the picture sober, it helped Micky even more than when he wasn’t there. He needed Dicky, just not a Dicky on drugs. And he needed his mom and everybody as well. His strength to communicate to them and stand firm in what was needed from them is a mindset of a champion for sure.

It's an excellent film. The finish is pretty much what happened, with Neary getting hurt (again) by a body shot then getting dropped by an uppercut. The finishing attack is accurate also. Ward does not get knocked down and stagger back to his corner at the end of the previous round though! In fact he finished the round really well and it looked like Neary was weakening at that point. Neary had started the fight very strongly but tired after the 5th round and Ward started taking over. Neary was a strong, all-action fighter but had no defence and hadn't beaten a top fighter. Ward was clearly the more skilled with the superior variety of shots. Of course, the bout was depicted "cinematically" in the Fighter, so Ward comes from behind to score the win and become World Champion. Unfortunately, the title Neary held (WBU) was only very lightly regarded. I watched the fight live at the time and certainly didn't consider Neary to be the champion.

This movie is about redemption. Dickie had to break bad habits and stop living in yesterday’s perceived past glories in order to evolve not only as a trainer but become the big brother that Mickey always needed. Mickey had to finally realize that he could be a better fighter than his brother and bring a title back to Lowell.

@MrKnoxguy1012 жыл бұрын
@@danielgareau2836 Thank goodness for that. The very first fight between Ward and Gatti is still a fun fight to watch to this day. Gatti nearly ran circles around Ward, in the beginning, but because Ward was such a bull and kept coming, it allowed Ward opportunities to find the openings he needed. Trying to go phone booth with Mickey Ward was never advisable. Those three fights ultimately awarded both fighters with trips to the ER once the final bell sounded.
