Honestly, I cant remember the last time I played an FPS at launch & there wasn't hitreg or performance issues. It seems to just be becoming part of the launch experience, unfortunately

I would like to note two very important things. 1: The building destruction shown off in 2042 was done in portal maps, which are not in the base game level rotation, and assumedly reuses assets from past games, since the destruction is on par with past titles. And 2: The Finals, while less detailed in its destruction, has fully destructible buildings that can fully be destroyed, and collapse entirely and dynamically, which is very rarely seen in games. Whereas 2042 base maps just have a few walls that can be blown up. Not to mention, The Finals is still early beta. I'd say they both shine in their own way, but 2042 was a massive disappointment of a BF title in every way, especially the destruction when compared to past entries.

Actually, no. Portal maps are not reusing assets, all of it was remade by Ripple Effect. The destruction tech is there for 2042, the Portal maps prove it, they just severely underutlize it in the base maps.

yeah it's pretty disappoint showcase of the Finals' destruction. It's not just that you can blow up a whole building, it's that you can collapse the roof and it will fall in, you can have the floor fall down beneath you and stay on that piece of floor, you can blow off a wall and the roof will slide off. it's way more comprehensive than any other game I know of and it's very disappoint that this video didn't show that

And as well with the finals the walls you blow off and floors stay on the map thanks to server destruction which in my eyes is 30x better than 2042

Instead of making the generic "muh closed beta" excuse. You can just say the engine they are using isn't in par with frostbite in some aspect. Obviously anyone can see the limitation of it from this comparison. But it still impression for what they can do with it from a team of EX DICE devs.

Another thing is that in 2042 much of the environment in the base game is not destructible. For example kaleidoscope barely has any buildings u can destroy. Only portal maps have decent destruction.

The Finals looks like the ideal COD/Battlefield/Apex Hybrid. Has descent destruction and graphics but a fast paced cartoony style gameplay

"cartoony" style. The environments are all realistic looking in UE5. This looks nothing like Apex/Fortnite. It might have that cartoony vibe but visually does not look cartoony. Only cartoony part is aspects of how the characters look and people turning into figures/coins when they die. Otherwise the buildings, lighting, trees/overall environment has a very realistic visual style

The finals is able to go further in the destruction because it only has 9 players instead of 128. Basically each player adds load to the player's CPU and the server, same for each destroyed asset. The finals runs extremely badly with only 9 players while having good destruction, 2042 has more limited destruction due to the extremely high playercount (128 players each destroying the map at the same time would destroy player performance and server performance). The finals runs a bit worse than the BF2042 beta despite having 1/12th of the playercount. I'm playing it with a 3070 and getting around 50 fps. It looks good but not great graphically.

Something is not right there, you definitely should have more than 50 with an 3070, are you maybe using raytracing? If so, try turning it off.

@@Vioral ok, this might sound weird but try increasing resolution and graphics settings it might give you better FPS because with increased settings you will make your GPU work more. When you have everything on low then your processor is getting used more which can actually give worse FPS in certain games. So you definitely should try increasing the settings (maybe just without raytracing). Also by the way what processor and how much RAM you have? Maybe one of those is not good enough.

Honestly their completely different tech so I could see them not comparing but now that the finals is out there should be nothing less. Their using server side destruction and the rest is Unreal Engine which is why player count is low. But Frostbite would have to get server side engineers and destruction devs to make this possible and then better map designers. All of which they clearly lost.

Frotsbite can do more, but EA is not giving them freedom and more time to be great. That is why almost all og devs from Dice has gone away

This is a good comparison, but doesnt comprehensively show off the destruction in The Finals. You can cut chunks of the roof off and have them still be in tact while the rest of the building stands. It is chaotic af compared to just destroying a building and having the whole thing collapse.

It's embarrassing how Battlefield has become. Sure 2042 is already getting better somehow compared to say MW2, but Finals puts 2042 to shame when it comes to atmosphere, especially considering BF is known for destruction. Portal maps showcase that destruction is possible, but 2042 maps omit it completely until Flashpoint in Season 4.

2042 should never have gone to 128 players. That's probably why they cut back on a lot of stuff. Players have realized that 128 players doesn't play well, 64 players work and flows better. The next BF game needs to only be on the new consoles, and back to 64 players, then the destruction should be amazing

Look at the glass physics. In the finals the glass breaks around the bullet, whereas 2042 seems to have a simpler animation. Really small details but its great when a developer puts the effort in.

It's basically a plane that you shoot and gets multiplesld to many parts in the exact same way and it doesn't even break more once it reaches the ground which isn't even hard to do in the first place
