you can use a folded dollar bill also, who ever gets to the bill, keeps it, they did that to keep themselves entertained, we call it a line twig in the states, I like the thin metal ones my self, from Lehigh Cement and other companies, they give you for free ( curtesy ), they are strong, accurate and last a long time if taken care of. we use them on a long run over after 30'-40' line will drop 1/4" every 100'. we pull them as tight as possible. keep the videos coming rob,.. always a pleasure,...

yes, definately keep to the trowel. Develope your style of skill and work on it. Remember to always think 'when I walk away after I've finished a wall I want to be pleased that people will still be looking at it in 100yrs time'

Don't deaf the percy. This isn't the correct way to lay a tingle. If you ask me
@CJs.13 жыл бұрын
Mate i use this method when running in it takes a few seconds more but the result looks better with straight perps and no line being moved by your mate on the other end! I use an old cash card i thought i had invented it! See you in the waiting room of Dragons den!

If both corners are plumb from where your pulling the line from, there is no need to plumb the brick with the tingle.

No, actually it works fine on any brick, the tingle sits on the arris and is held in position with the brick above.

how do you know its sagging or not?! and how to check it!? may be using tape measure!? Yes ! Good Idea!
@barringtonsmythe34644 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob. What length of wall would you typically look to using a tingle.
@robsonger14 жыл бұрын
Hello. Walls roughly over 8m is the usual distance that a tingle might be required due to sag in the line. I use a braided line which pulls and stretches better than most twist lines. There is a danger though with tight lines on corner blocks and pins, if these fly off the corner they can cause harm.

What would happen if you didn't use a tingle Rob
@robsonger114 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had a copper tingle for a long time, but borrowed by another never to be returned..so at the moment I find an old plastic card useful, but not as good. I've never found a strip of polythene or cement bag very good at all as the line tends to slide around in it, especially if the line is caught or pulled
@Xxjoeynumber1xX11 жыл бұрын
Nice work, as always Rob. But when you get so good at what you do people tend to point out all the little things. Well i'm going to point out the black marks on your joints that already turned white, seems like you might have waited a little too long to strike them and burned them a little. no biggy though, as always excellent work
@Emeraldthrone12 жыл бұрын
Rob, I love your work, but on a lighter side,... commically I was telling my dad how you measure every brick, we are from NY originally and the guy my dad worked for, for years was Terranova bros,.... he starting laughing so hard because Joey Terranove and his brother are Scicillian and he said he would have had a seisure coupled with a stroke, if you worked for him,.... lol, these guys are known for very good work, I guess that's why I like your self are better off working for ourselves. later.

You need to plumb the brick that the twig is being set on since it's being laid in the middle of a possibly long stretch of work. And at that, what does it take, an extra 2 seconds to plumb?
@robsonger113 жыл бұрын
ahh, make sure it's an old one.. and deface all the numbers, there are clever people about who can use these to empty your savings...I'm ok, I've no savings.

@tico512612 жыл бұрын
Whats your address I'll send you some real "TRIGS". You shouldn't have to measure the height, just lay it to the line or slightly above if its sagging. Do you say masonry or masonnary?
@CJs.13 жыл бұрын
@Luckytrowel12 There shite luckytrowel all they do is snap your line, plastic works better!
@peterhamilton26958 жыл бұрын
no need for a tingle when the brick is to the line
@robsonger18 жыл бұрын
Peter Hamilton thank you for your comment. on a long length on line there is a strange force called gravity that exerts a force that pulls the line to the earth....even Isaac Newton couldn't prevent it. this creates a sag in the line which then needs to be gauged and tingled. This should be taught in the first year of your training so I'm very surprised you are unfamiliar with it. I hope this explains it for you
@peterhamilton26958 жыл бұрын
rob songer hahahaha yes very good ...but if you care to check your video your tingle brick is actually built to the line so no need for a tingle ....nice brickwork though

if both your corners are plumb , why on earth do you need to plumb it!? You never plumb a tingle. ..sorry to travel to tell you, but you are wrong!
@robsonger17 жыл бұрын
Gerard Walsh well Gerard, let me explain...have you ever built in window and door frames without plumbing the reveals? if you rely on the line your reveals will waver hugely...try it. the same apllies with a tingle point. As mentioned, I've worked with a few who follow your way and generally we don't see them for very long.
