My favorite part of reactions to this song is how people miss the mention that the "meat" canning factory is around the corner from the cemetery. Implying that even after death, the corporation sees you as a resource. It's an astoundingly dark theme for such a catchy song.
@hayleyblanch58952 жыл бұрын
love that read into it; something not this but a bit similar happens in the game. outside the cannery a group of deserters (workers who got so tired of the cannery they ran away to rough it in the wilderness) run what's basically a commune, growing native vegetables to feed themselves. you can find out later that the leader of the commune actually fertilises the previously deadened soil with the corpses of fallen workers and the like. the saltuna cans are actually full of sprat (space rat) meat and imitation saltuna, lacking in nutrients to a point that the workers are constantly dealing with "plague" that's really just the flu due to weakened immune systems. that's why the deserters were healthier.

Watching Darrnell work backwards to figure out shit about Outer Worlds is wonderful. His genuinely shocked reaction every time a new layer of the corporate dystopia is revealed just makes me inordinately entertained. (Yes, they actually have to pay upkeep on graves of their loved ones or else the bodies get dug up and tossed.)
@archon_maenad2 жыл бұрын
Ah sorry, edit: get dug up and *used as fertilizer.* Forgot to mention that part. And it's one of the "good guys" who came up with the idea-- after all, people were getting sick because the cannery was using more sawdust than anything else in their food since the soil on that planet sucks ass, but with genuine deadass human bodies as fertilizer suddenly you can grow real plants and keep the working class healthy. The shit you'd have to do to survive in that society...

The game is all about making choices. You wake up in a pretty messed up world, and you can either maintain order or kick down the doors of the higher ups and run their shit 🤷🏿♂️😂. It's a really good play. The song is phenomenal though. Both the song and the game have just the right amount of social commentary to make you really think. Cause sometimes real governments be down horrendous 👀

You're very unlikely to see too many big budget movies giving such harsh critique to capitalistic systems as they benefit far too much from such systems. Criticism can and does happen mind you, but it's often watered down or paired with the message that while capitalism isn't perfect it's far better than any other system.

I just want to give some context on the game although I'll keep it short as the story is kind of complex basically a rebel to the corporation re awakens you from cryosleep as you were on a ship that got lost and the bored thought it would be cheaper to let everyone die then take responsibility for there mess up but because you aren't In there records and they don't own you you are free to explore and choose now there are a few endings but what I would call the good or main line of endings is you taking over the bored awakening everyone on the ship and striving to create a more equal economy it's also a really fun game I highly recommend it the only problem I have with it is it's too short I can finish the game on about a day so yeah

It's not a movie, but Killjoys is a TV show with a VERY similar vibe to this. Corporate-owned planet system and dystopia all geared toward generating wealth and power for the people who own everything and everyone. Plus, you know, assassins, hot people, gun fights, piracy, revolution, crazy religion, space-station nightclubs and the whole bit. It's a bit campy at times, but it definitely captures this vibe. They even use corporate pollution as a way to execute people!
