Because they kept saying "he did it by dink and dunk passes and that NFL teams would adjust to that too quickly" well they seem to forget a certain QB who played in New England for years and won a lot!!! Used to do basically the same thing. Death of a thousand cuts rather than one big haymaker. And just like Brady...Bo can throw the Haymaker when needed like that throw to Mims against the Browns and the one to Sutton just last week. Of course he can still improve but he wants to get better which is a good sign.

Oregon Ducks fan here..also a lifelong Vikings fan...I was yelling to whoever would listen that Nix was THE most NFL ready qb in his draft and it wasn't even close! He has ALL the tools and the brains to go along with it! He won the Campbell trophy in college (known as the academic Heisman) and his dad is a coach! Not only did the Vikings draft the wrong qb, but they got duped into moving UP to do it by Payton and Denver!!! Now he sits at #2 all time for Rookie qb td throws (another ex Duck Justin Herbert is #1 and also a Campbell trophy winner) and has his team in the playoffs (as does Herbert!) Anyone who said Nix wasn't ready or would'nt be a good NFL qb simply doesn't pay attention to cfb - or they only watch the SEC who NEVER put any decent qb's in the league.

Everyone says Sean Peyton has the most complicated playbook, so I'm sure it keeps Bo busy. But it's off-season, so a after he takes a break and hangs out with his wife, his parents, and his brothers and sisters, he can come back rejuvenated and maybe meet with Sean and Webb. Same here. I'm a Raider Fan but I wanted to draft Nix. All I heard back on that idea was racist crap. It drove me nuts.
@Kaykay-n2n10 күн бұрын
Racist? Why? There was no way the Broncos were going to be able to get Caleb or Jayden. They might've tried for Michael Penix, Jr. but his injury status made people cautious...Seems okay so far, though. Bo was the guy they could get at 12 without giving up a bunch of draft capital. Sean worked well with Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston as his quarterbacks in New Orleans. I don't think he was too fond of Russ, but I think that had more to do with Russ having his own office at headquarters and separate coaches. Sean wanted a guy who didn't hold himself apart. He wanted a locker room guy. I also think Russell frustrated him. He seldom threw down the middle, even when guys were open. He took a ton of unnecessary sacks and would fumble the ball. Plus, when Sean got heated on the sideline, Russ looked like a deer in headlights. When he got heated with Bo, the rookie got heated too. I think Sean preferred that, because it showed him Bo has a competitive spirit. I think Russell was distracted by a lot of other things when he was in Denver. Maybe he wasn't as dedicated to football as he had been in the past. Then things were heading south, and his first ballot Hall of Fame possibility was in jeopardy. He didn't play at all well his first year in Denver, and while his second year was statistically better, he wasn't playing all that well if you watched the actual games. Since Russell knew he hadn't done as well in Denver, at least not consistently, he'd have to really dedicate himself to making things work in Pittsburgh. He did. Then some of the things that he did in Denver reared their heads in Pittsburgh, too.

I was one of the people who was wrong about Bo Nix. I'm here to rectify that now. What I am about to say, I will preface by stating that I've been watching the NFL since 1969...a month after Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. This means that I have likely seen about 98% of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game. I saw Len Dawson lead the Chiefs past the Vikings in Super Bowl IV. I also have a high level of football acumen, developed in part with a past friendship with an NFL scout for the 49ers. I am by no means a casual observer type fan. Especially when it comes to quarterbacks, I usually know what I am looking at. Before the 2024 NFL Draft I did extensive...& I do mean EXTENSIVE research on Bo Nix, far more than anyone was reporting in the media. Besides reading numerous actual scouting reports (the kind from real NFL scouts) I literally broke down every season he had in college, game by game, studied his offensive systems, the offensive coordinators, went back & looked at hundreds of his plays & looked at the individual competition he faced as well as his surrounding supporting cast. I also dug out information nobody in the media ever reported. This included the fact that Bo Nix struggled in college reading NFL type defenses. He played 4 of his 5 seasons in EXACTLY the same system, one designed by Gus Malzahn, the guy credited with creating the NHHU (No Huddle-Hurry Up) pace offense that severely disadvantages defenses & artificially inflates QB passing stats. Every OC he had ran this system with the exception of former Boise State HC Bryan Harsin, who junked it in favor of pro style passing sets that required more than one or two reads from the QB. When married with the Air Raid offense that specializing in isolating speed on the edges & taking advantage of the wider college field, Malzah's NHHU pace system has created a long list of stat kings at the college QB position, most of whom almost nobody remembers because they were never in the NFL or they flopped. When Nix left Auburn he would probably not have been drafted by the NFL, or at best he'd have been a day 3 pick. What he did at Oregon appeared to be nothing but a combination of a great system & a surrounding cast of NFL caliber talent behind a top 3 offensive line in a conference that doesn't play much real defense. I've seen that before, & it usually results in a backup QB in the NFL. Armed with all of this information, I was one of the most strident voices of skepticism over Nix coming to Denver. I even pointed out that despite Sean Payton's seeming ecstatic feelings about Nix, he literally said every single thing about Jarrett Stidham when he signed him that he said about Nix. I also pointed out that despite his brilliant work with Drew Brees...a guy nobody else in the NFL even tried to sign...Sean had also failed miserably with the only rookie QB he ever drafted in New Orleans, former CSU Ram Garrett Grayson. Payton spoke in the same glowing terms about Grayson...drafted to be the heir apparent to Brees...& the 3rd round pick never saw the field in a real NFL game. He was cut by the Saints, then by both Denver & Atlanta. So I didn't know if Sean could really develop a rookie QB, let alone one who struggled with making more than one or two reads in the college game which is what happened when Harsin coached him at Auburn. At both Oregon & Auburn, he didn't have to do it for 4 of his 5 years. In the one year he did...he was benched & struggled, & he also clashed with the coach. Through most of the first half of this season, Bo Nix almost never threw a pass over the middle of the field longer than 10 yards. Nearly all his throws were either behind or near the LOS or they were to the sidelines...low risk passes that require the QB to make only limited reads. Sean Payton was keeping a very tight leash on Nix. He was doing so for good reason. Bo's mechanics were HORRENDOUS. He consistently struggled with accuracy issues because he threw off balance, off platform most of the time, whether he needed to or not. He failed to plant his feet properly, he missed seeing open receivers, he chose the wrong reads, failed to scan the full field & sometimes took off & ran for no apparent reason & had pretty bad pocket presence. He looked like a 3 year project in the making & the legions of NFL scouts, media geeks & garden variety NFL fans mocking Denver for taking him looked like they knew the truth. Then...in the Carolina game in week 8 something crazy happened. All the sudden I started to see Nix throwing with solid mechanics. I saw him scanning the full field. I saw him making smart reads, & instead of a steady diet of dump off passes, he started whistling sharp, high velocity passes downfield with laser-like precision into tight windows. He threw for over 300 yards & 3 TDs & he made journeyman TE Adam Trautman look like Travis Kelsey. Something else showed up in that Panthers game also. Bo Nix has an NFL caliber arm...a BIG NFL caliber arm. The idea that he doesn't is pure nonsense. This kid can absolutely hum it. But that was Carolina. The following week the entire team stunk as Baltimore pounded them. With the exception of Courtland Sutton who caught 7 for 122, no WR was even a casual factor. Nix went back to throwing to the backs underneath the coverage. Back to square one...or so I thought. In week 10 vs. the Chiefs in Arrowhead, Nix didn't post huge numbers, but he out-dueled Patrick Mahomes & he LOOKED like an NFL QB for the first time against a superior defense. In the waning minute he drove them into position for what should have been the winning FG, only to see it blocked. From that point in time to now, Nix has gotten better & better every week. This is not the same guy I saw & meticulously tracked throughout the preseason & the first 9 games of this 2024 season. Earlier I said I had probably seen about 98% of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. That covers 55 years watching the NFL. I do not recall having ever seen a rookie QB make a turnaround this extensive & this fast. It may have happened, but I do not remember anything quite like what I have seen Bo Nix do. In the space of basically 9 games, this kid has gone from a QB who couldn't throw anything past the first down marker with dependable accuracy & seemed to have no idea what he was doing in the pocket to a guy who looks like a franchise QB & a future pro bowl caliber guy who will give Patrick Mahomes & Justin Herbert a run for their money in the AFCW. Sean Payton was right, & all the rest of us were wrong. I was the MOST wrong, because unlike most of the Denver fan base, I wasn't relying on hype or what the local media guys were saying, almost all of whom simply echo each other. I was wrong having looked at this guy like I was studying for the bar exam & still got it wrong. So...I AM SO HAPPY TO BE WRONG!!

Check out the QB breakdowns here on KZbin. There's been flashes of future success from the first game this season. A 3 year project would have also been fine as that was when the Broncos would be out of cap hell. I'm glad it hasn't taken 3 years. Nix will still rookie it out there from time to time and he does like to leave a clean pocket, but there's hope in Bronco country again.

This is a very interesting and comprehensive post on Bo's college development. I did some reading on Bo's time at Auburn under Brian Harsin. There was talk that said Harsin was reluctant to recruit solid offensive linemen, leaving Bo unsure and unable to trust his line. Is that true? That may have been the case this year too, especially at first. I call it the "Get outta Dodge Syndrome." Rookie knows someone can't hold his own too well, so he leaves the pocket even when it's clean...and forgets to set his feet. But then things seemed to slow down for him, and the things he'd learned over the years and WAS learning under Sean seemed to come into better focus. He still has a lot to learn but he knows it and doesn't seem to mind.

Bo could benefit from having a skosh more arm strength, but he obviously has enough to prosper in the NFL. On top of that, he is a hard-nosed football player, a great teammate, a good runner, super smart, level-headed, and humble. The guy was a steal.

I am a Duck. So, I have been a Nix fan. Before we got Baker here in Tampa, I was hoping something would happen that would allow Tampa to potentially draft him. Obviously, I am hyped we got Baker. But I was pretty confident that whoever got Nix would not be sorry.

with the broncos not having a top pick and also being an oregon fan i wanted Bo Nix 110% over JJ. He was ready and I felt like if Sean wanted him then he was our guy. Though not enough credit is given to a top 3 defense and the best o line in the league
@UnleashthePhury15 күн бұрын
I can understand not wanting Nix for any number of reasons for any number of teams. But when the head coach is Sean Payton, and you have the opportunity to give him a bigger younger, more athletic with a young athletic Drew Brees? It’s the most obvious selection in the draft in that case.
@Eugenes8413 күн бұрын
Sean Payton also saw the great potential in Patrick Mahomes when all the “experts” saw him as a gamble and not as good as Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson. He was going to draft him if the Chiefs hadn’t moved up. Payton has a great eye for quarterbacks. Most important having great accuracy in short throws.

We just lost to the Bills, but I didn't sense he was intimidated or that the moment was too big for him. Bo does need a good running back, though. Every team that's going to the next round had a sound running attack. I'm not sure why Sean hasn't committed to it. But Bo? I like the guy a lot. Let him keep learning. He has a great shot to make some noise in the future.
