The two Glasgow rotundas once gave access to the three tunnels that ran under the River Clyde from 1896 until the last tunnel, the pedestrian one, closed in 1980. Two Accumulator Towers with a power station and boiler house have been demolished. In 1988 the South Rotunda was used as a restaurant by the Glasgow Garden Festival.

I went through the pedestrian tunnel the late 60's as a teenager. The vehicle tunnels had been long closed. I remember taking photographs but they probably didn't work out as it was really quite dim. There were huge, metre diameter water pipes at the side.

I have always lived in Anderston i remember walking across the tunnel several times as a kid. 2 things stick in my mind, the stairs going up and down and the huge pipes. I ve been in the restaurant one for a lunch.

I have the same memories it seems - it was in quite a run down condition when I explored it justy before closure.

My uncle took me through the tunnels when i was a boy not long before they closed, all wood and metal construction, very creeky and a big hoist for horse and carts.

I went through once - I wasn't sure that it was even open to the public as it was very run down.

@@rogergriffith286 Yes I remember it was very run down, must have been the mid to late 70s I went through it and I think they closed it for good early 80s.

I stayed down there at the hotel that’s close to the rotunda and never knew what it was for, very interesting and as I love Glasgow I’ll be able to amaze my wife with my newly discovered knowledge
