Tatsuya Nakadi , this is the second movie I’ve seen him him in recently,, in the thirteen assassins he is also brilliant , he’s got a great presence on the screen

A splendid movie, with many intrigues! Tatsuya Nakadai was sublime as Kai Harada. He endured suspicions & derisions by lower-ranking samurais, and even sacrified his own marriage in order to expose the schemes by Utanokami to confiscate the Date domain. He knew, in order to preserve the Data domain, he had to blame his own madness for the various turmoil & deaths -- to give a saving face to the Edo shogunate! His heroics was successful in preserving the 620,000-koku domain of the Date clan.

He's 90 years old but still has a sharp mind. I would love to sit with him and ask him about his acting career.

Wow, another beautiful Japanese movie.. I enjoy watching it but most of the time I get confused with what seems to me a part of Japanese culture.. the conversation to me, at times, seems very strange, as if they argue, but no.. also, I have never seen any source of heating inside the house, when outside is snowing, and they are not warm dressed yet they don't look cold.. ha ha I don't know much about Japanese culture..

Give it another go, or a few goes! lol. Took me 4 times watching RAN. Great movie, but slow. Finally, I took an afternoon nap, was able to follow the 4hr movie, and WOW!! Glad I made the effort! This one is good because you really come close to the characters, and the acting is great......

My problem with the story was that Nakadai's character (not the actor, the character) overplayed his part, refusing to even hint to his actual allies how much he knew and what he was hoping to do. He almost got the young girl and little boy killed because one of the good guys thought he was working for the enemy. He almost drove one of his closest aides to commit suicide. He killed Shichijuro, in effect, by driving him crazy with anger. He didn't have to be that freaking secretive. It became more than annoying when he sat there refusing to reveal anything to anyone over and over again.

The truth will not be learned if it was told that Kai Harada was gone crazy. As you can see in the movie Kai Harada was a very good sword fighter who killed many people in seconds, it was almost impossible to kill him by these low-rank samurais. It doesn't make sense. This is but a story that was made for the movie. I think watching a Zatoichi film is a better choice. A good playwright would take care of the feeling of the audience.

Hey RafaeldeMesquitaDiehl! Thank you for watching our videos! The original name for it is Momino Ki Ha Nokotta (樅ノ木は残った) that was released in 1983 by Nihon Ega Broadcasting (not to be confused with the drama produced by NHK in 1970). Hope this helps! (P.S.
