I drove my great uncle's old Massey Ferguson 35 doing chores on his farm in Texas back in the mid-1960s. Loved it. Very simple, very reliable, and very versatile.

Watching these videos out of order is like reading chapters of a book randomly. Still a great video, but I already know how it ends.

The air compressor would put clean air into the coolant where all the others would put exhaust in. You should eventually be able to detect soot in the coolant unless it is air compressor.

Thank you, did rather enjoy 40k back in the day - not moved on sadly since the new rules. Glad that you are enjoying the content, and we'll do our best!

Old stuff has a habit of letting us down in our hour of need. My newly rebuilt V8 has eaten its push rods in 35 minutes running. It's now full of swarf and needs another rebuild.

Something has just struck me with the coolant miseries with the Dennis. Are you sure the thermostat isn't stuck shut causing it to overheat and boil the coolant in the cylinder head? I have seen something similar with, I think, a Jaguar XJ-6 with the XK engine, it wasn't circulating coolant around the block due to a stuck thermostat so eventually it was boiling the coolant in the head. Then the steam was forcing itself through the bleed valve in the thermostat and pressurising the radiator forcing coolant out of the joint between the rad and the bottom radiator hose. A new thermostat, some new rad hoses and clamps cured that one, surprisingly the head and gasket had survived being cooked, though I don't know how that went long-term as the owner sold it once it was behaving itself again...

I thought this was the problem - makes complete sense right? And the temp guage wasn't working, so I replaced both of them. And it still has the same issue. Seems unlikely that the new ones have failed too?

with a modified filler cap, can you artificially pressurise the cooling system (with air, no coolant), and then look for leaks?
@lmm6 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I'll have a scout around for a suitable adapter. Cheers!

You need a combustion leak test kit. A magical fluid that changes colour if there are combustion gases in the coolant.
@lmm6 жыл бұрын
I have put one of those on, but didn't get any colour change. I'll have to wait for it to over pressurise again and put one on and see if that does anything...

@@lmm I reckon @gosportjamie may be on to something with the stuck thermostat.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I've replaced both... So feel it's unlikely?

First‼️Some things are meant to be‼️👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Just a couple of points :- Any fool can review something. It requires a certain type of genius to review nothing. For the fire engine, I'm betting it's a crack in the block, but, then again, I've always been an optimist.😆😆😆
@lmm6 жыл бұрын
They are indeed! It is your destiny! I'm really hoping it isn't a crack in the block. I don't want to take the roof off to crane the engine out....
