(Blue, the Veneziad) I like how it's a "we" sing in this poem, to illustrate how it's about a republic... the actions and decisions of mortal men in history just like us, as opposed to divine concepts. Just nice detail I wanted to point out

I know I'm late to the party, but as a Venetian, from Chioggia specifically (the island that served as the last wall of living flesh and stone against Genoa, guarding the southernmost entrance to the lagoon when all seemed lost and it turned into a naval siege) i was just bathing in the poem itself with a mix of nostalgia, appreciation and awe... Till the slander against the Genoese hit, and made me spit my coffee. Well played sir, you are an honorary Venetian now

So I’m not entirely sure when I should post this, but lately I’ve been reading Edith Grossman’s translation of Sor Juana’s works and I think Sor Juana would make for a wonderful subject for History-Makers; her works are absolutely gorgeous and make for a wonderful insight into the Church in Mexico in the mid to late-17th century. Anyways, your work reminds me of her poems and if you haven’t read them yet, I highly recommend them!

I live in a small coastal Finnish town and we have a local festival each August called the Veneziad, the name came from people in the late 1800s lighting candles and torches along the coast to celebrate the end of summer, and I guess it reminded someone of Venice? just wanted to share!
