Years have passed, and I feel like I've been living an "Elseworld" event through and through. All this time, I've been able to count on this channel to deliver top-notch entertainment and shrewd commentary on subjects I adore, and that's been a integral part of me sustaining my sanity. It's amazing how well formed Doctor Octopus is in his first appearance while the Green Goblin's first appearance involves him tricking Spider-Man into doing a movie with him and the Enforcers but instead of throwing fake punches they'll actually try to kill him. And Goblin becomes Spider-Man's archnemesis.

When Spider-Man 3 came out in theaters decades ago my regional newspaper had promotional copies of Amazing Fantasy and the first handful of Amazing Spider-Man issues tucked into the Sunday deliveries which were my first introduction to the early Spidey comics and has forever garnered a reverence in me for the original Lee/Ditko run even to this day.

I read somewhere once that the reason some comics in the Silver Age had “chapters” was to create the illusion there were more stories in the comic than there actually were. Also about the name thing. I suspect the inconsistency may be because the book had two different letterers. The astronaut story was lettered by Jonny Dee, while the Chameleon story was lettered by John Dufi.

Expanding on Ethan's point, it's always bothered me when people (or especially the movies) say anyone can be Spider-man. All of Spider-mans villains are a direct contradiction of that idea. All Spider-man villains are normal people who through some accident of fate are gifted with super-powers and then demonstrate how power corrupts. They are direct mirrors of Peter's situation and shown how it's expressly Peter's belief in Power and Responsibility that has him not turn out like them.
@Thejmack115
@Thejmack115 Жыл бұрын
I think that's because people have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Spider-Man is actually about or perhaps it is a deliberate attempt to change the core of the character I'm not sure but regardless it's a very shallow reading of the characters in message to say anyone can be Spiderman because the point is that everyone has their own level of power and responsibility but saying anyone can be Spiderman is sort of a more simplified less intelligent way of getting that across

I never actually looked into if this was a thing and not my father being awesome, but my father used to work in NYC and would bring home the Sunday Edition of the New York Times and wrapped in there was a *new* printing of the old Lee/Ditko Spidey comics so every week I’d get a new issue in the run and unironically it was my first Spider-Man I ever read. Maybe some Marvel Adventure line stuff from some Book Fair, but I have a special place in my heart for this run. I feel like Marvel missed an opportunity to launch a new hero/comic series: Peter Palmer: The Spectacular (hyphen-less) Spiderman (legally distinct from Spider-Man)! All the powers of Spider-Man, but a few that are slightly different. Or, maybe instead of Ben Reilly, the clone could have chosen the name Peter Palmer for himself and hyphen-less Spiderman instead of Scarlet Spider. It's been so long since I've read this, I had forgotten how Jameson just seemed to abhor Spider-Man right out of the gate seemingly without any sort of inciting incident. Not sure if I'm recalling incorrectly, but I don't remember Jameson despising any other costumed hero they way he despised Spider-Man.
