The first Balance Patch of Tekken 8 has Arrived! What Changed?

So patch droped last night, and here is the corresponding video! Its mostly nerfs honestly, but all very deserved(well mostly) cause stuff like Jack, and Jun as we had a whole dedicated video about the other day were more than a bit silly. As discussed at the start of the video there is another round of balance changes coming as well so when it happens check the channel I will have you covered. Other than that as you would expect all the changes are broken down so give a watch and let me know what you think!

They should fix Yakushima stage on Xbox, the performance on this specific stage is terrible online, and only SPECIFICALLY. In training mode, no issues. But in matchmaking or arcade quest the performance feels like 5 frames per second. It really looks like a strange connection issue as the performance is fine offline (but could still be better on this stage tbh.

Slight correction: Dragonuv’s d32 nerf is to remove the combo by using heat burst after it. It was possible after uf4 and b3+4 (punch sabaki). In neutral the move is useless anyway.

I understand king is definitely a menace right now, but from testing in game right now, the chain grabs ARE techable on a punish. I used the exact same throw against the exact same move Rooflemonger was showing, and the bot was techning it every time. The window to tech I do not know though, so theres a good chance its just very easy to miss even if mashing which is an issue for sure.

Something to add about throws in 8, if you are holding(buffering) a 1 or 2 when you are thrown you cannot break a one break throw but still a 1+2 break. If holding(buffering) 1+2 when thrown, then you can break NO throws. This was not the case in any other Tekken so it very well may be a bug with the new counter throw system.

Of course this is my first Tekken game since 5 and for some reason I gravitated to Jun, I mostly picked her because she seemed uncommon and not super strong per se (I hate using top tier characters in fgs). Boy was I wrong, I dropped her because everyone started to say she was top tier and bandwagon. Same thing happened with Sindel in MK1, I picked her because she wasn’t super popular and was very low-tier in previous game.. but she needed up being so broken so I also had to drop her lol. TLDR: maybe I can pick Jun back up now!

If anyone is wondering why devil Jin sweep got that much of a patch, it’s because that sweep to laser combo was what they added to his specialty mode. That meant you had a massive range hell sweep to laser combo doing about 40 damage achieved by one button. That was why it desperately needed nerfing. 😂

I'm happy as a devil jin main, that mostly dmg has been nerfed, and nothing more, that slightly shorter range for the hellsweep is annoying but nothing too major, especially when you don't perfect input to get closer, he has lots of high dmg moves too, so i guess it's still fair so far for a character that has his own guess game during a heat dash, like am I gonna hellsweep or any mid like up forward 3+4 to laser, weird how reina got touched though, she was the most played yeah, but to be honest I feel like she was probably the most balanced she wasn't too op, wasn't bad at all, and she didn't have a precise common playstyle yet, so far all the reinas I encountered had their own style, not a single reina felt similar to the other, and I fought many of em. Edit: I thought dvj nerf was fine but no, I have to learn a new playstyle and that hellsweep range seemed nit too short but it's quite short for such low dmg, I've been demoted quite easily, and I've been loosing so frequently, I still haven't catched up, in fact I might risk another demotion xd

For all previous Tekkens the arcade version would come out first so most of the gameplay bugs would get fixed in that phase. When eventually Tekken would release on consoles it was bug free for most part only issue would be netcode and online modes.

The Tekken Franchise is 30 years old. I trust them to do balance patches for things this early that may be unintentional or broken, which is far better than nerfing core mechanics of the game and seemingly not knowing how you want your game to be played (MK1) or simply waiting on a balance patch period (SF6). Nothing in this balance patch seemed out of place nor did any of it destroy core functionality of characters. A meta doesn’t need to develop in order to fix broken or unintentional mechanics.

Dragunovs Chip damage on Quarter circle forward could go away i wouldn't care but i want him to always have his plus frames and throw strike/throw With plus frames is 100% my playstyle although i don't Main him

I think people were more mad at what they did in the patch as opposed to how fast it was. The patch they released made it seem like they don’t know what they want to do with their game
