That looked absolutely fantastic, Cas (& Chary). and when you said near the end of the video about how strange it felt to just walk after using it. I have to tell you a funny story as due to always focusing on my race video's for my own Channel, I was a bit late to the party in buying HALF-LIFE ALYX only just recently. But as I usually don't get nauseous in games - I played it for 4-5 hours straight, with the combo of fluid moving & the jump function as well. But when I stopped playing, I had such a weird feeling. As my body/brain didn't want to move - as it was as if it was waiting for me to press a button to move. And I literally had to tell myself - no, you have to move your feet again to move remember, hahahaha . [:]-)

As always Cas your video reviews are awesome, informative and very enjoyable to watch. This VR treadmill device looks like so much fun, I can’t wait till they are so common place in the VR marketplace that the price comes down to the same degree that the original Oculus Rift Cv1 and HTC Vive did to the current price of the Quest 2. Then we might all be able to afford them. By the way not to split hairs here, but I heard you say at the end of this video that you were surprised how fast VR tech has advanced, especially since consumer VR has only been available in the last 4 years. But since the Oculus Rift Cv1 came out in March of 2016 and the HTC Vive came out in April of 2016, wouldn’t it actually be 5 years? Anyway great job with this video and looking forward to all your future content.

@@moncimoov It's aimed at folks who explicitly want to move with their legs and not their thumbs, folks that would have a huuuuuge playspace if they could. I can walk through whiterun in VR just fine, but for most part I'm just standing there. The biggest difference with flatscreen is the hot quest on my face :P (a bit of hyperbole, but you get the idea) It also frees up the thumbsticks for other things if the game supports that. H3VR in particular comes to mind, with it's complex gun mechanics.

Hi there Rod Munch! Trust us, the KAT Walk C has been really battle-tested during the development time : ). To ensure full safety, we have applied special alloy materials that are stronger than steel (keeps the back support from snapping), and the harness is built from 2 pairs of belts and an additional safety buckle so it's a 3-layer safety system. If we do get our hands on a good video with a heavier user we'll definitely share it on our social media!

Still that $1400 price tag makes this hard to call a "consumer VR treadmill" for most of us. Also why did they have to design it exactly like a shoes. That means those have much larger feet than you wont be able to play with this. And it looks like it wont last long specially if you use it on a daily basis. It would be much better if they made it some kind of accessories that you can strap on any regular shoes.

Thanks for the review! I really want to like these, and I watched many early reviews when they started shipping to Kickstarter backers. @vanadain15
@vanadain15 2 жыл бұрын
@@pixelfairy honestly, I feel like silvercord completely misses the point with their product. It's a treadmill on which you can only walk in place, same as with the KAT loco or walkovr.... So why strap yourself to a treadmill-like construction if it doesn't let you actually walk at all and you can get other solutions that follow the exact same type of movement without restricting you in any way and they do it few times cheaper? or even natural locomotion with 2 vive trackers for $200.
@pixelfairy
@pixelfairy 2 жыл бұрын
@@vanadain15 being strapped in you no longer worry about space. you can lean into the direction your going when you want, or easily lean back to walk/run backwards. the harness also lets you sit, or fly/swim. Its nice being able to run and jump without fear of distance in the physical world. and the harness catches you if you fall. They also padded the bottom to absorb the noise. some people prefer the stomp style to the slide style. i havn't tried slide yet, so i dont have an opinion there. Yes, it is expensive. And they don't ship where i live :-( So, instead i attached a harness to a swivel mount and use a wireless headset. $200 usd for the trackers + $150 for the harness and ceiling mount.

Hi Cas! Great review. I think you nailed it pretty well about the learning curve. Your walking motion is already really convincing. Just out of curiosity, are you still using the velcro straps on the soles of your shoes (from level 1 to 3) or did you already got rid of it? (level 4). Also, if you're curious, we have a KWC discord server with lots of dedicated and friendly fellow katwalkers if you have any specific question or problem. KATVR staff are there too in person to answer questions, though it's not an "official" server ruled by them. Keep up the great work! PS : Just one little advice i'd like to adress : i noticed you've inverted your foot trackers in your review...your Left foot tracker is on the right shoe, and Right one on the left shoe... for forward walking or backward, it's not a problem...but it will be if you try to strafe left or right... i suggest you swap your foot trackers (FYI, the blue led must be on the exterior side of your shoe)

I think I accidentally switched them up in later sessions as I remember I paid attention to it after pairing. But it is good that I didnt notice much difference! Also, I joined the Discord already!

The noise and the diameter of the base are my biggest concerns putting me off. I have long legs and it looks kinda small. And i live in a semi-detached house. It’s awesome, but at that price I’d have to test drive one first. Thank you for your great videos.

Do you need to like buy/set up the small black loco boxes that track your body movements too? Or is it just like an app without camera tracking needed to be involved?

Thanks for reviewing the Kat Walk C! I am currently using natural locomotion from steam with Nintendo switch controllers attached to my ankles for a walk in place style of locomotion. I find this setup to be really immersive. In your full review of the Kat Walk C, can you compare the differences in immersion of the Kat Walk verses other walk in place solutions like I have? Thanks!
@Nedddo
@Nedddo 2 жыл бұрын
didnt know you could use joycons to walk in place lol, i might have to check it out though, does it centre your movement to the direction of the joycons(kinda like a hip tracker) if so that would be a crazy and cheap upgrade.
@capncurly6267
@capncurly6267 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nedddo @Neddo you can use a variety of foot based trackers. I found that buying off brand joycons did not work though. My current setup of just joycons uses hmd or controller relative movement, not hip based. But, you can add a cellphone for hip based motion. I have only tried this once and didn't get good results. I think my problems were due to putting the cell phone in my pocket instead of on a belt or my hip somehow. The steam page for natural locomotion goes into detail on the various potential device options.

You should have tried it with Phasmophobia on some of the bigger maps like the asylum, prison, or high school. Basic movement was sluggish originally, but I do wonder if you'd be able to get to potential hiding spots faster with the new movement speed or the Kat Walk C.

Something you didn't mention and what I'm most curious about is the accuracy. When playing Half life Alyx or other games, were your footsteps one to one? If the tracking was off at all, I feel like it makes it pointless. Do you feel like you could stroll around easily and it matched your in-game perspective?

My BIGGEST question as someone who owned a Virtuix Omni: Are the feet 1 to 1 with your avatar? By that I mean when you take a step with say your right foot and look down, is your avatar'ss right foot also extended and in the same spot? Second, when you slide that right foot backwards to propel forwards, do you move at the exepected speed? If you stop mid step, do you immediatly stop and still have your foot in the right spot? With the Virtuix, these 2 elements were totally disconnected as putting any foot forward simply moved you forward even if you did not slide back. It felt like moving your foot anywhere near the outer edge was like pushing up on the thumbstick would which meant your feet never matched your avatars feet, plus you would often move much faster than your actual step would have. These 2 issues made the Virtuix an unplesant experience and it made me motion sick which as a VR veteran , is not something I experience much. I have been waiting for a 1:1 treadmill as I know I can get used to the slippery surface, but not the motion disconnect.
@DFX2KX
@DFX2KX 2 жыл бұрын
That's all configurable. Not all games are compatible with full-body tracking (feet movement in game), and the treadmill emulates joystick input by default. So for most games it'd work similar, albeit from my understanding the walking feels better then the Omni. Some like VRC will let you see your feet move
