Another great video! I've always been interested in the ethnic groups that participated in the Crusades and how they managed to work together during it. I've always wonder about this, and have looked for some characters but have never found anything on it, in your research have you come across any Irish Crusader's or any strong mention of them? I know the Irish are deeply involved with Christianity and Catholicism and would suspect they would be among some of the first combatants like the French.

Thanks Forrest, glad you liked it! Honestly, I'm pretty sure there were some Irish Crusaders, but I would need to double check.

Real Crusades History That would be great! There are three books that I've discovered, unfortunately I can't remember their exact names off of the top of my head, but I believe they were titled: England and the Crusades, Scotland and the Crusades & Wales and the Crusades. I may be mistaken but fairly sure those were their titles. It was unfortunate because I couldn't find an Ireland and the Crusades. hehe.

***** Maybe, I'm taking a chance here but there are 3 separate historical books by a French historian who wrote 3 long books each an historical novel, 3 of the series which I read about 20 years back based on the Knight Templars. I am not saying good or bad about THEM, but the books are fantastic and have long bibliographies to show where he got his sources from. MORE....the 3 hour movie "Arn,the Knight Templar" is based on it and the closest historically to what could have been rather than the drivel about the Christians who LOL (fought) when not raping, looting or butchering Jews who returned here to Israel with the Prophet Ezra and Nechemia historically King Cyrus 2 of Persian Empire gave them permission to rebuild the Temple which was on his (then) conquered land of Israel. Swedish author en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Guillou Jan Guillou . I noticed another trilogy which I haven't seen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Alexios didn't just abandoned the crusaders. I read somewhere that his representative with the crusaders left after Bohemund told him of a plan to assassinate him, because it was suposedly believed that Alexios was aiding the turks. I also read once that Alexios was in fact on his way to help the crusaders and turned back after one of the crusading nobles who was fleeing back to Europe told Alexios that it was hopeless and that the siege was lost. Which of these versions is true?

Good awnser annd good explanation. i undarstand that people get confused about the politics in the crusades but people have to understand the religion was politics at that time so of caurs the war was with a political view in mid. but wen the head of power and the head of religion are the same of caurse the conflict will become religous and political right?

The first Crusade is as important to Western Europe as Troy was to The Greeks. Brilliant analysis as always. Jared sounds obstinate, a self righteous liberal.

it is truly a shame that the Europeans did not have the foresight to realize that they would have been best served by first occupying and then colonizing the entire Levant. Had they been more serious about not just conquering but staying for the long haul they could have changed history and Islam might have petered out centuries ago had there been a determined effort to truly conquer the Levant. We will never know but I am convinced had that strategy been followed the history of the world would be quite different, much better in my opinion, better for the entire world.

Wrong. Muslims pray to Mecca, not Jerusalem - Jerusalem was never important to the Islamic invaders, it was a Jewish and Christian holy city. Muslim in Jerusalem who pray show their backs to the Dome of the Rock. The city is not important to you, it is merely a piece of stolen land that you lost.

Early muslims prayed towards Jerusalem, once Mohammed was powerful enough to kill the jewish arabian tribes which had aided him he changed it to Mecca because now he did not need the tale that his faith was Abrahamic anymore. Then he was able to make it an arabian faith.

Jews have the greatest religious claim to Jerusalem. It has great religious significance to Christians, but Muslim claims to Jerusalem were made up. Mohammed never set foot in Jerusalem. The mosques on the Temple Mount were created as an attempt by a rival Muslim government to establish a rival site to Mecca and Medina. If Jerusalem had any real significance to Islam, why was it impoverished?

Charlemagne fought and defeated Muslims on the border with Spain, but a transcontinental expedition all the way to the Holy Land may have been beyond the resources of Charlemagne's empire at that time.

Jeffersons Islam this was a problem long before Jefferson became president. In 1786, Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripolis ambassador to Great Britain to demand to know by what right the Muslim states could attack another nations ships and enslave the sailors . Response is revealing . Jefferson record The in Ambassadors response in which he said that Islam," was found on the laws of their profit, that it was written in there Quran that all nations who should not have a knowledge their authority were sinners, that it was there right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Muslim who should be slain in battle was sure to go to paradise." 🤔 doesn't look like it ever end.
