Suggestion from someone who has done years of RV/van traveling. The waste water will become smelly very fast if you put any kind of food stuff in it, like the beans juice. I always put a quarter cup of vinegar in the dirty water container and disposed of anything food related in public trash cans. Happy travels.

I feel like the first couple seconds of this video were the most beautiful to me. You looked scared yet happy/eager for the future, and you looked free. I really admire you for following what makes you happy. I feel like I'm tied down by everything, and I can't escape from it. To see you look so blissful brings tears to my eyes. I hope that you make lovely memories on this road to the unknown. I'll be right here cheering you on❤

I'm impressed, you've got it together pretty good, but if you're going to be staying in W/M parking lots, you want to scrap the eye mask and ear plugs. You want to hear what's going on outside your van/home. also I would suggest you get a puppy that will grow up to be 40-50 pounds. if you raise a puppy up in the van with it will love you and the van will be it's home too, and dogs hear things in the night that we might sleep through and alert you to possible danger. Also their just fun companions. good luck to you, be careful and I subscribed to your channel after watching your van build.

Thanks but Walmart is really not that unsafe that I need to buy a dog and sleep with one eye open. There’s always lights, cameras, and between 5-20 other people staying in vans and rvs all around me. I have never felt remotely unsafe

wasp spray is a good idea! I was going to suggest bear spray. something that causes more of a reaction than normal pepper spray. as a father of a 19yo daughter, I gotta say: be safe, don't post where you are going until you have left, and watch some youtube videos of solo female campers for some advice on things like where and how to sleep in your car safely and legally on the DL, apps to use, etc.

Seeing this makes me so sad and wanna go back to New Zealand. Did there Vanlife for over 8 month, through summer , fall and winter weather. Although the windows would be frozen from the inside every morning in winter, I was never cold. And it was honestly the best time of my life 💕 good luck for your journey.

I just found your channel today, September 18th! So technically you've been living van life for only a month now! I'm so excited I found your videos and get to follow along on your journey with you! I just recently moved to California from Canada to be with my (very new)husband who is currently active duty in the Navy. Our plan was essentially for me to move here to be with him, then when he gets sent on detachments or wherever I would travel around the US in our future built out van until he comes home! Or go wherever he goes! I lost a bit of my inspiration for van life, I won't lie.. but you kind of brought it back for me, honestly! Seeing you do it on your own so confidently makes me believe I can do what i've wanted to for years now! Thank you for being you! :)

Im now watching the 5 minute mark where you talk about how hot it was sleeping. I wanted to tell you about a van setup I had in Florida where I had an RV air conditioner on the roof, it would fit where your roof fan is. I used a 2000 watt Honda EU2000i generator to power it for 8 hours on a gallon of gas and it was super quiet. However I built an aluminum lock box which was locked on my trailer hitch and housed the generator so no one could steel it. I had one hole for the exhaust, one hole for the air intake, one for the start and one for the on and off and it was perfect. I'd wake up very cold inside the van when it was hot and humid outside. I just noticed you did this in 2018 so maybe you're not doing this anymore, but with whats happening today, you never know how many people will be living in vans.

We put wind guards on the front windows and opened the windows about two inches up just above the bottom of the wind guard. You cant even tell the windows are open. Its cooler and NO rain comes in. They are quite awesome. Enjoy life, experience life. Have bear spray for safety. Always keep the drivers seat empty should you need a quick exit. Happy Travels :-) VanLife ROCKS! You need a pup. Essential oils are awesome.

fire extinguisher should be mounted by a door or easy access place or within reach of drivers seat. i suggest having 2. 1 up front like on transmission hump or drivers seat rail on door side. and another one by back doors. I actually had a fire and 1st extinguisher i grabbed was dead....lost pressure sitting too long. but luckily had few more through out shop by all the doors and welder so was able to grab a second 1 mounted where it was easily visible. Some people panic and will forget they have a fire extinguisher in back of cabinet. or will be too hard to get too. or stuff on top of it bumped it and caused it to leak pressure off slowly. so have 2 and mounted to where you easily see them and can get to them even if you have to run out 1 door, run around van and open another door to get to it. thats why i suggest mounting to where you can reach it from outside of van. worse case scenario you cant stop the fire but you are already outside the van and can run away easy. We dont want you in dead center of van digging out what may be a broken extinguisher buried in a cabinet while fire circles you. So at least 2. mounted opposite sides or ends of van. by doors that open from outside so you get out first then get extinguisher. and in easy to see and reach places. then 1st of every month inspect pressure gauge. theres a bracket online that allows mounting to seat rails in front of seat. its on amazon. let me know if you need links or more advice on this issue.

If haven't already done so, get a Maxx Vent Cover and put it on the roof of your van, over your fan. This will allow you to keep your vent open in all weather, while keeping the wet out. It should also help to keep your interior cool by allowing hot air (which rises) to exit.

Necessaries and tips: 1. Always organize your things so you know where to find them quickly. 2. Have a box for your weapons. Including flashlightS, candles, matches, lighter, pepper spray, knife pen (pen with a knife), extra scissor, whistle (when something happens, it will help so other's may hear.) All of these in one box easy to reach. 3. Put money inside your car as well and not only to your wallet. 4. Download park4night for free parking. It will locate you and find you a free space. 5. Atleast 2 huge gallons of water to drink, 2 for sink, 1 for food. 6. Mini ref. Can use water bottle and put it inside for cold water. 7. Documents and other important papers, put on your dash. 8. Always have pepper spray beside you while driving. 9. Make a lanyard with whistle, small flashlight, and keys so you can just have them on your neck. 10. Also, don't forget ropes. 11. Extra batteries for flashlights, and power bank for phones and others. 12. Solar panel. 13. Unsweetened snacks. Asian market has a lot of it. 14. If you want cheaper meals, Asian market too. 15. Dog and his companion (maybe another dog.) 16. A tablet thing for reading so you don't need lots of space for piling up books. 17. Extra towels and tissue. 18. Alcohol, sanitizers, baby wipes (best for wiping so you don't need to consume too much water.) 19. Fire blanket or that small fire extinguisher. (Correct me for the spelling.) 20. Rechargeable fanS. 21. Umbrella and raincoat. 22. Curtains that kind of separste the front to the back. Safe journey.

Its not goodbye, unless you are never coming back. Its see you later, see you again until next time etc... I made a pack with my son after we went through a stressful divorce, it was a serious emotional down and it took so long to shake it off. One thing I noticed during this time was how time was such a value to our lives, and our life was forever changed and changing into something new so I wanted to make sure to have some control into the future of what came out of my mouth. The words we speak are like wheels of fire that never stop, our tongues are the smallest members of our body but yet they boast great things, like a spark that lights a whole forest on fire, or the ship's helm the controls her path against fierce storms, our tongues, our words produce a path, our words create vibrations that other people feel whether they understand our language they can still feel what and who we are by our tones (tongues). When you spend time traveling like I have to different countries where the languages are not English you will notice what I mean in a deeper form. It is the Spirit of you that is broadcast by your body language, just as we see in the first 3 mins of this video even w/o you saying a word we could still see what you were feeling. Now add words to this and remember how powerful they are, like the bridle in a horses mouth they are made to go left, right or to stop, and where does that bridle fit, under the tongue. Your journey has just begun and if I remember right the silence you now have is a huge teacher, it is nature and the laws of it you will now hear more then ever. I spent two years on the road alone back in the earlier 2000's but had traveled through Mexico as a teenager in the 80's and I can say there is no better teacher, no better place to learn then being on the road alone, and every person means a new step in that learning process. We are Educated in school and that is a form of indoctrination, its a training which is not the same as Learning and Discovery. This is now your personal journey, each town, each forest, each person and everything in-between. So un-educate yourself and discover how to learn again on your own grounds. We will see you around, like the sun & moon.

Thanks for sharing. I plan on buying a van and fixing it up and you have a lot of great tips. I would buy a small air conditioner and a heater even thought it would take up a lot of energy it's worth it. I am learning a lot from people and I can't wait to travel. Stay safe. Always have it so you can jump in the van and drive away easily even if you have to back it in.

Enjoyed your vlog. You just need to do what you do. People will watch or not. What i mean is dont apologize for everything. Your videos are about YOUR life, your journey. You're doing great. You will improve with confidence and more time.

What do I apologize about that makes me seem so insecure? Am I not allowed to explain myself or just say what I’m feeling in the moment?

You can also sleep in Fyling J truck stops and others I am sure and it’s good to park by nicer RV’s a lot of folks are good Sam Members and they help you with things you might need a hand now and then.

Considering you have just started Van Life you have it well sorted. Just a suggestion, when you get time, make yourself a vented box to cover the battery. that would do two things, (1) it would give you a bed side table of sorts (2) it covers the battery terminals to prevent anything, like a pot, pan or knife from falling on it creating a short.

Your video popped up and caught my attention.. I love that you share your fears and emotions along with your excitement. Most channels dwell on the carefree/happy side of van life .. I think it's great that you acknowledge some of the shortcomings and fears that come with it. You will do fine. Now if you would just move that fire extinguisher, look straight at the road, get some wasp spray and use that fan you will make all your followers happy..hahaha Seriously.. I look forward to watching your adventures. Be safe... have fun!

I think this is so brave of you , not just for the independence part of it, but it has to be incredibly lonely at times. The mother in me feels so sad and worried watching this, but I know your parents must also be very proud of you. Stay safe!

I definitely don’t feel lonely. I know how to be content just with myself but then I’m also always interesting with people on social media. Please don’t be sad and worried. I’ve been on the road over a month and have not at all felt unsafe. It’s really not as unsafe as many people think, and many older solo female travelers have told me the same :)

💘 watching your adventures. I was reading other comments and yes please don't say your exact locations. After u have left isn't so bad but please just try not to be to easy to follow. Crazy idiots out there that 💘 to scare young women. I pray this is 1 of the best experiences in your life. Also you were saying how hot and stuffy it was in the van. I didn't understand why you wouldn't use the fan on the roof. That's what it's made for. To get that hot air out. Crack a window open turn the vent fan to push air out and use your small fan to blow the cooler air on to u. I know you will figure it all out in time. Just wanted to give a lil bit of advice to help you be more comfortable. Much 💘 sweetie. 🐝Safe & God bless you on your journey.

My videos don’t go up until a few days after I’ve led the area usually but even if I post on IG saying I’m in the Grand Tetons for example, it’s a pretty big area so it would be hard for someone to find me. I do use the fan but it really doesn’t work as well as I suppose people who’ve never had one would expect it to.
