That's funny - about ten seconds before the narrator refered to Lucas' handwriting as "chickenscratch", I thought "gee, George has really neat handwriting".
@russellharrell27473 ай бұрын
Yeah, kids today don’t know what script or cursive writing is. George had some decent handwriting.

You know, there's a multi-verse out there where Lucas put this version of Star Wars on film.

The way he rattled off the names of the various scripts, complete with the Smash Bros music in the background, and Hamill complaining afterwards, that really floored me.😂😂

Just shows how much time, labor, and love George Lucas put in to developing SW. This man dedicated most of his life to the saga to develop it, flesh it out, and fought tooth and nail to get his vision made. Mad respect for the dude.

Or he is completely overrated since he wasn't much involved in Empitlre, always relied on the artists he hired (which is fine but he is not a solo artist auteur) and started repeating himself by RotJ. The prequels are objectively bad films despite whatever your childhood nostalgia tells you. There are plenty examples of how to write great drama and he never hits the mark.

I found a reddit post with PDF scans of the actual scripts. I skimmed through a couple of the drafts and I got to say that the 1st 3rd and 4th are my favorite ones

just to make it clear, it wasn't "his agent" that convinced him to go back to the drawing board due to lack of clarity. It was Allan Lad Jr. Lucas took his word because Allen Lad was Lucas's only hope of getting the film green lit with FOX, due to Lad being the only one at FOX who had faith in Lucas delivering a hit film.

A lot of stuff from the old Star Wars Expanded Universe is even based off of ideas and concepts cut from these scripts, like the names of the light side and dark side being Ashla and Bogan, lightsaber/Force crystals, some Force powers like shatterpoint, and even the Sith themselves come from these early drafts. Even the idea of midi-chlorians was present since the early days because the Force can be passed down through genetics. "The Force is strong in my family" being the biggest example of this.

Commenting for the algorithm to hopefully get it more attention! Edit: I also subscribed. You are only a few subscribers away from being monetized, my man!

I loved Space Wizard's design for the Jedi Bendu. The prequels would had been cooler if they took Ralph McGuire's designs of General Skywalker and the old Starkiller as a basis for the Jedi's uniform instead of Obi-Wan's desert robes
@gabethebabe33375 ай бұрын
There actually was inspiration taken from those designs in the Old Republic era, specifically the Tales of the Jedi comics from the 90s.

Lucas has cited Vietnamese resistance against the US as an influence for the rebels in the original trilogy, back when he still had a studio with Francis Ford Coppola he actually wanted to make a movie called Apocalypse about the war in Vietnam but no one would produce the movie at the time because of the controversial subject matter and the openly anti-imperialist sentiment, as you can probably guess that project that was titled Apocalypse eventually became Coppola's Apocalypse Now, so I've always thought of Apocalypse Now as like Star Wars extended universe, but I wouldn't be surprised if George was also inspired by Cuban revolutionaries in these earlier drafts of Star Wars as well since he would of just been graduating high school and going to college when the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs Invasion occurred

Is it true for the Phantom Menace be wrote only 1 draft?
@Duragizer87753 ай бұрын
No. While the script isn't publicly available, we have a synopsis of the rough draft, which was subtitled "The Beginning". Some notable differences from the final film: Obi-Wan was the only Jedi present at the start of the film, and it was he who discovered Anakin on Tatooine; Qui-Gon was still in the story, but he showed up later. Shmi's last name was "Warka", not "Skywalker". Jar Jar was much less annoying. And Maul was more talkative.

So it's Dune but instead of royals they're warrior monks and/or pilots? I wonder if The Force was originally how they navigated ships. You know, like how Obi Wan tells Luke to turn off his computer and use the force instead. And if that's the case then the planet the Emperor is sending them to is a trap. Mace Windy(Leto) would be betrayed and killed Leaving Not Luke(Paul) to gain local allies to one day overthrow the Emperor. It's literally just Dune with a palette swap lmao.

Dune was an influence on George but also obviously the old pulp stories like John Carter, the 30s buster crabbe serials, WW2 movies, westerns, etc.
