Joan Jett and her band early in her career were shopping at a mall in Westerville, Ohio, when 11year old me recognized her in 1981. She kissed me on the cheek by the water fountain where I was sitting with my mom and she did an acapella of I love Rock and Roll. Of course I will never forget it.

My mom has no idea who she was when I recognized her. I'm so glad my mom didn't stop her. I was kissed by Joan Jett while sitting on this big water fountain people threw pennies in eating a funnel cake I think from the food court. I'll never forget it.

I have nothing but love and respect for Joan Jett. When asked by the USO if she would do concerts for soldiers overseas, she said yes instantly. When the USO told her they would have her play in safer areas like Guam, she told them to put her in the most war-torn areas where the troops really needed her. She was willing to risk her life for our troops. Love that woman to pieces!

She was 13 years into her career when she recorded this in '88 and wouldn't turn 30 for a few months. I have been in love with her since first grade. There are women with better voices, women that are better guitarists (Hell, Heart covers both of those), but Joan is the absolute, hands down, accept no substitutes QUEEN in my book. The highlight of 2021 for me wasn't finally getting free from COVID restrictions, it was seeing her live for the first time. Man, I really hope to do so again someday.

Joan Jett, was formerly co-founder with Sandy West of the all female band The Runaways, which also included rocker Lita Ford. Joan Jett with the help of songwriter Kenny Luguna, formed the band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and she went on to be a big female rocker of the 1980's. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts still active today, but Joan Jett is the only original member of the band.

Joan Jett has been my idol and hero since 1979. She is the living embodiment of "just no fucks to give". Her shows are 100% her and her love of Rock music. She is the original female badass of rock 'n' roll. Her cover of "dirty deeds" is amazing and in my opinion the best cover of that song. (I acknowledge I am emotionally biased lol). The lady as a lot of bangers and holds several songs on my playlists. One last thing don't hate your "baggage" it is part of the story of your life. everyone that has ever lived has had, has, and will have baggage it is how you deal with the negative that is important. I have a cute story involving Joan Jett from my youth. Joan was one of the founders of The Runaways at 16 years of age. In 1978 they toured Sweden and I was at a small outside venue to see them with a friend. A bit before the gig I went behind the stage (a small venue with the dressing room behind the stage) and climbed the fence that was surrounding the stairs to the cellar. Above the fence was a small window to the dressing room, and as this was during the summer month it was open. I stuck my head inside and there they was, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West and Vicky Blue. They all smiled at me as I said hi (the only word I could come up with in the magical moment), and Joan walked over to the window and gently caressed my cheek and at the same time gently pushed my head out with a smile and the words: - Sorry boy! I was in heaven for the rest of the night and I said to my friend that I would never wash my face again. 😊😋 I was 15 years old at the time and Joan was 19 at the moment, turning 20 later that year.

Joan Jett started as rhythm guitar and songwriter for the Runaways. After that all-girl band broke up she started a solo career, as did fellow guitarist and former bandmate Lita Ford. Joan’s music, like that of AC/DC is pure rock and roll, whether a ballad or straight rocker like this one and that’s why she is one of my favorite artists. As for the jacket she did not throw it into the crowd, she threw her guitar pick. Lastly, rather than Joan Jett being like Lizzy Hale (another amazing female vocalist who also plays guitar) Lizzy is like her. Joan, along with Lita really opened the doors for ladies in rock and I for one am glad they did. P.S. If you decide to check out Lita I’d suggest the duet with Ozzy Osborn called “If I Close My Eyes”

Indeed. Having grown up from the late 60s to early 80s, I took it for granted that we'd be enthralled by every new album/single release on an almost weekly basis. Never did I suspect that we lived the age of truly iconic recordings and performances, and that the standards set by those artists wouldn't last. Not to mention the wealth of great recordings made before I was born - stuff to get lost in, from the classical to jazz, blues and rock 'n roll. Gen Z will argue that they feel the same way about Taylor Swift as I do about the heroes of my generation, but I cannot help to feel immensely grateful that I wasn't born any later.

3 things I hate about myself: 1) I hate that I always think the worst to myself about myself or others, (negative self speech, assuming a friend is faking being a friend, a partner is unfaithful, etc.) but I love that I am able to now steer my mind away easier from those rabbit holes and reassure myself on what is reality and what it self maleficence. 2) I hate that I don't listen to my inner voice when talking to others to either wrap it up so it is not a 5 hour conversation and that all my talking points have already been hit or when I am oversharing or info dumping and internally I am screaming at my self to STOP. TALKING. It is a thing about myself I am still tackling and trying to keep on the brighter side and laugh (where appropriate) about the funny situations caused by it. 3) I hate my heart because of the issues it has that affect me daily, that has been the hardest to try and actually put a positive spin or appreciation on.

When Joan Jett walks out on a stage, she owns it. So glad you chose to check her out, today, I've been a huge fan of hers since first hearing back in the early '80s. Definitely a rock icon. You mentioned Lzzy Hale; Halestorm actually did a wonderful cover of this song, check it out sometime, even if just for yourself. I love it when you analyze lady rockers for us. You likely forgot, so just to remind you... Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel deserves some attention. "FASTER" is the one to experience. I've listened to her sing that song hundreds of times, and I still have to remember to breathe. Incredible vocalist. As for anything I might hate myself for, I hate myself for not being one of The Blackhearts. Can you imagine a life where you're around Joan Jett on a regular basis?

Joan!! She has been one of my favorite rockers since I was a teen - as well as her all-girl band the Runaways. She is such an icon to women all over the world. She just plays great, straight forward rock n' roll that everybody can sing along with & enjoy.

I was so fortunate to live and grow up in the 80s, in ultra conservative Salt Lake City, who just lucked out in having the most progressive radio station in the 80s. Her music was played alongside Violent Femmes, Eurythmics, Yello, Yaz, HoJo, and so many disparate others that aligned in perfection. This radio station was "disappeared" overnight TWICE, and they were able to overcome both times. In their last iteration, the DJs, including "Anita Man" 😂, managed to get together, pool their money and financing, and it was WONDERFUL! Yay KJQ!

Joan plays pure, simple Rock. Very relatable, very catchy and it just hits right. There are a number of rock bands and solo artists who just nail that kind of sound. AC/DC, Bob Seger and CCR come to mind. They aren't there to show off, they just come to kick ass and take names.

Joan Jett is a true rock and roll star. No affectations, no act, she is herself onstage and puts it all out there. In a similar way to AC/DC she stormed onto the scene with her style and it worked great, and still works. She is amazing.

Joan is a badass, plain and simple. She's been at it for almost 50 years now. Back in my younger days, just after The Runaways broke up, she'd play a few of the clubs along the Jersey shore. The Fountains, the Stone Pony, and a couple others. There's a good chance I came across her back then. Much of my misspent youth was spent there on weekends.

One of the hardest working musicians. Been a fan sense her runaway days. Got to work a concert in 97 for her and the fabulous thunderbirds. She is such a badass. She was nice to everyone who came up to her. She is one the few that can play arenas and clubs and still put on a hell of show. Just in your face rock n roll.

When Nirvana was inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, they had 4 women representing-- a different iconic singer for each song-- and Joan Jett sang lead for Smells Like Teen Spirit. Beyond iconic! I can't imagine anyone besides Kurt sing that, but she smashed it out of the park!

Something to add that even before being a singer, and continuously all along her career, Joan Jett have been a producer for bands. This is something you can feel in all of her songs. They are efficient, simple, but super well produced. Not like over produced, but tight, efficient and engaging.

I live in Iowa and during the Presidential nominating season, EVERYONE comes to Des Moines. In 2004, Joan was in town stumping for Howard Dean at a coffeehouse across the street from my apartment. Just Joan and her acoustic guitar in a corner of the room - not even up on a stage. I stood within arm's length - close enough to touch her. (I didn't) A favorite memory.

I have seen Joan Jett several times live. She is fantastic live! Sounds the same as she does in the studio. Knows how to put out quality and a great performance live! As a huge fan of hers, does she have the greatest voice in rock? No. But she has the perfect voice for the type of music she does!

Until you see Joan Jett live in concert, you don't really realize that overwhelmingly powerful voice is coming out of a fairly small and petite lady. She earned her place in the rock pantheon through her own hard work and determination starting in the 1970s when few members of the public respected women rockers.

And mostly, we all have those someone else's. You just have to be comfortable with who you are, accept that none of us are perfect and strive to be the best that you can.
