Fun fact, Joan Jett went to a man to teach her about playing the guitar. She was told that Girls Don't Make It In Music. The rock industry. She wasn't comfortable singing and had no desire to sing originally. She wanted to play the guitar. Due to losing band mates in her original band The Runaways she was basically elected to sing . You should check out Cherry Bomb by The Runaways with Joan Jett and Lita Ford. Both Joan and Lita had started their own solo career by the early 1980s. Hope this helps

Lita Ford (lead guitar, vocals), Cherie Curie (lead vocals), Joan Jett (guitar, vocals), Jackie Fox (bass), and Sandy West (drums). They were a big inspiration for me, as a teenager who also played guitar and sang. Cherry Bomb was a huge, scandalous hit. The band was huge in Japan - like Beatles huge.

She says he looked at her like she had three heads and told her that girls don’t play rock n roll. That was also her last lesson. She bought a How To Play The Guitar book and proceeded to teach herself.

Joan Jett kicks arse!! She was in an all-girl teenage punk rock group called The Runaways with Lita Ford in the 70's. They made a movie about them titled the same starring Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning in 2010. "Cherry Bomb" us a good one to react to from them. I forever lost my heart to Joan Jett when I first saw her in the 1970s. Unbelievably talented and sexy enough to catch the attention of fans, she got her hands on an electric guitar and decided she was going to be a rocker. She helped found The Runaways (that also featured Lita Ford since you brought her up) and cranked out some hits. When The Runaways disbanded Joan went solo but couldn't find anyone to produce her music. She then formed her own recording company, Blackheart Records, with Kenny Laguna in 1980 and released her platinum album "I Love Rock & Roll" in 1981. You have to give her much respect.

Joan Jett is one hell of a performer and business woman. She is still rocking it today! You might recognize this song from Sunday Night Football. Fun fact-Joan is a Hugh Baltimore Orioles fan. You frequently see her in the box seats near homeplate and she's not there to be seen, she's there to watch the game. When she can't get to the fames, she keeps a tablet on a stool on stage so she can keep track of the game. She admits that she'll glance down and see a good Os play while singing and cheer. The fans go crazy because they think she's into the song when she's actually cheering the Orioles.

Joan is a rock goddess! She proved to the industry and men that women can rock hard. This song kicks ass! She is all attitude and beauty rolled into one package. In 1999 near the end of the summer I was at King's Island going up the elevator in their Eiffel Tower and the young lady ride operator all excited asked if anyone was going to the free Brittany Spears concert at the park Ampitheater later that night. Joan Jett lifted her entire gig, the hair, the stance, the attitude from Suzie Quattro one of a few early female rock chick's in the early 70s.
