I met Nancy Honeytree when she "opened for me" in Jackson State Prison in the late 70's at a Prison Fellowship conference. What a privilege to share the same stage with such a wonderful woman of God, we were honored to have her there and I was humbled by her presence. Thank you Nancy for a life well lived for JESUS>

Rattle Me, Shake Me. My first introduction into Jesus Music back in the mid 70’s. I find as much of the older music as I can and down load it from ITunes. The music still rings as true now as it did then. Thank you Nancy for feeding a new Christian the word in song all those years ago. Blessings to you.

I had an opportunity to be in concert with Nancy in the mid seventies in a concert along with our group and The Imperials. She basically stole the stage that evening she was amazing. It was just she and two other guitarists. I will never forget that evening. Hope to see you someday again I am in Florida currently with my family.

I sponsored a Christian concert with her in 1976. I had to borrow a $1,000 from my bank to cover her fee and rent the Osseo Junior High auditorium. We presold tickets for $3.50 at Christian bookstores and U of M bookstores (I was a student there). Presales were fairly poor but the night of the concert there was a massive group that bought at the door. We had a little over 900 people at the concert. It was a benefit for the Christian coffeehouse, The Lord's Barn (An actual converted cow barn) in Osseo. The funds more than covered the debt the barn had at the time. After that weekend, I went to my bank and paid back the loan and they charged me only $10.00 for the week I had their $1,000.00. It was a fun experience but I never put on another concert after that night.

Thank you Honeytree. I saw you at the Gateway church in Philadelphia in the early 1970’s & at the Creation Festival sponsored by Harry Thomas’s Come Alice Ministries. You music has always stayed in my mind & heart. I saw a video on You Tube called First Love with you & many other ‘Jesus People’ musicians. It great to re-unite & see all the faithful musicians that have blessed us.

I met her at El Calvario Bible College in Mexico1991-1992, I was very excited about small groups and shared my excitement about them to her. Actually trying to get her as excited about them as I was. The Lord has brought that excitement back to me, with the idea of splitting them. People are more likely to come to your home than a church

Nancy came from Fort Wayne, Indiana. That was also where the E Band came from. The E Band, in turn, spawned Greg Volz, whose high voice with the band Petra enabled them to compete with bands like Journey, musically if not spiritually. Clean Before My Lord, by the way, was a very nice Bossa Nova tune by Honeytree.

Esther Hall Gordon My mother got one of her eight tracks in the 1970s after she first came to the Lord. 😄 I grew up hearing her music because of that.. I must’ve been seven or eight when Mom was playing it. I only rediscovered some of the songs I forgot when I was watching a documentary about “Jesus music”. Mom recently gave me her auto harp so I have been learning some of them on it.

In my opinion, the worst thing the "hippies" brought into the Church back in the Jesus Movement was this emphasis on singing songs as opposed to understanding Scripture and the deep things of God. The thing we were "rebelling against", if it can be called that, was the formulaic structure that had taken over the established churches, rendering them incapable of addressing the real-life questions that the young were asking at the time. The so-called "hippies", unlike young people today, were at least asking questions and thinking about the bigger questions of life and the Church, in its insistence on rigid adherence to tradition, was incapable of addressing their concerns. The "Jesus Movement" was as successful as it was largely because of its ability to do so from a deeper Scriptural understanding which it has since abandoned in favor of the emotional appeal of elevating "praise and worship" to a level of importance that the New Testament does not. They transformed what could have been a thinking church, which it should be, to a feeling church and rendered it even more incapable of meeting today's alienated young people's needs. Those attending such things as Asbury College and popularizing The Chosen series are largely those who already believe. The disaffected and alienated young people today who are being morally devastated by the nihilistic culture we now have are largely unaffected and unimpressed by these things.

I'm not saying she can't be a born-again believer that's definitely possible and God knows our heart but the Bible is also very clear that you are not supposed to have a woman Pastor over a congregation they can be teachers they can be leaders in a classes and teachers among other women but they are not to hold any position that's over a full congregation that includes both men and women children and people that's that's prohibited because that's out of order with what God says and no that's that's the way it is that God still holds to that God has an order and God will definitely punish them for this

I was a teenager during the Jesus Movement and got caught up in the emotion just as my friends did. But it wasn't until I matured in Christ that I realized how Scripturally unsound a lot of the CCM artists were. The fact that Honeytree was ordained in spite of Paul's teaching shows that adherence to the Word of God was not her primary concern.
