The Pimax Crystal is here and it might just be the first Everything VR headset. The Pimax Crystal is the closest headset to the ready player one headset with levels of immersion that put the meta quest to shame. But we take it a step further by combing Vr treadmillls and haptic vest to see how close we are to ready player one.

We need a new Valve Ecosystem and a Ready Player One GAME. The software is just not worth the price for most people, but we need that to change to draw everyone in!

After Ready Player One (the book) yeah I definitely want a world like that, to just slip in and experience a different reality. Actually, World of Warcraft in 2004/2005 already felt like the first time to me we had something of an online world like that, it was so immersive even though it was only 2D. Imagine what a company like Blizzard (with the attitude of 20 years ago) could do in VR.

The only thing holding VR back Is accessibility. Not every player can afford all the gear you need to not get motion sick. Once they solve that issue then the possibilities are endless. But we are years away. Think about it. A vr headset, treadmill, fbt set up, haptic suit and space could cost a person easily 3-5 grand. And some of us still get sick.

Your definitely right, but hopefully this technology will get cheaper and I think refresh rate will have a huge role to play in motion sickness

Been using Index and Quest 2 for years, going back and forth between PC graphics and untethered freedom. Now I have a Quest 3 and while it's not quite as good as PC VR, it's getting a lot more enjoyable for casual use. I don't know if I can ever go back to having a tether and base stations. It's just too much setup, too many wires, too much worry about tripping over cables and whatever else. There's really something to be said about putting on the Quest 3 in a new room with no PC nearby and it's pretty much ready to play within seconds of putting it on. In my opinion, at this point, I believe untethered mixed reality is the future of the medium, and it's what's going to get more people interested and more people buying into the space.

@@dtz1000 It's really not that bad. The "worst pancake lenses" are still decent lenses, and they're still pancake lenses. They beat out quite a few other headsets widely used on the market today. It's a bit difficult to make a headset with perfect optics when the headset's displays are 1 inch across and require massive magnification to work alright.

What is the point of it being standalone if its going to be so chunky anyways?
@Nobody-Nowhere
@Nobody-Nowhere 8 ай бұрын
The standalone is just extra, as it uses the XR2 chip anyhow for the camera based tracking & wireless streaming decoding.

I think Apple will be the one to get it all correct. Only issue is Vision Pro will be $3500. I think the Quest 3 is the one that is close to the ultimate headset right now. Its affordable and does a good job at AR and VR. We just need good content. I will be picking up a quest 3 when they go on sale.

@@clovis1109 No, why would l? It's a $1500 XR2 based headset that weighs 1200g and requires a battery just to play PCV. It has the worst controller tracking of any headset on the market and uses old school aspheric lens, you know, the lens that everyone with an R&D budget passed on. I can still see the pixels at 35ppd just as easily as I can at 25ppd. This headset is a joke, along side the 8KX. Pimax needs to stop trying to do so much and focus on making 1 really good headset. As it stands, they've made multiple headsets that suck at everything but 1 feature each. high PPD or high FOV. That's it. Everything else is awful on their headsets.
