Thanks for the update. These political upheavals seems to be proceeding with stability, which is a good thing. The North is probably hoping for chaos and I'm glad they are not getting it.

The current situation with the court is why the president refuses to resign and wants to drag this out until the bitter end. He knows, that the court may not see his actions as damaging enough to remove him from office. Also, almost half of the judges are appointed by him. The process will probably take a long time (up to 180 days), so if protests slow down, the more likely he will stay in office.

Wow. We’ll see what happens in the coming days. Hopefully, things will turn out better for the country.

Thank you for giving updates regarding this event in Korea. Your comment is valuable to me because you represent the average citizen. I have a couple of questions for you, I hope you can answer them. What is the mood of citizens in general, I mean your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc...? I mean regardless of the protests, people feel confused, afraid of the future, angry?? Thanks again, you do a great job!

I don’t think the current court will want to do anything until at least one other judge is seated.

Thank you again for the update. I’m curious. How are the court justices appointed? Or are they elected? Why is the court not full? It is good to see the process being worked out peacefully.

I believe some are appointed by the president. I'm not sure why the court is not full 🤔

The media in the US have been covering what is happening. Just have to let the process play out in the court. Just hope the outcome will be good for the people and the country.

Thanks for keeping us informed as to what's happening regarding the President. I wonder if most people in Korea feel that the President should be impeached. Has there been any opinion polls done to see how people feel. Also, why hasn't 3 Justices been appointed to the Supreme Court, and can they appoint them within the next 6 months?
@average_korean_manАй бұрын
Of course there are people who don't want the president to be impeached. I'm not sure why 3 seats are vacant and they can be appointed within 6 months

So it seems that in practice it can be like this that a vote of only one person, so of only one judge of the Constitutional Court of SK, may decide about the future development of the whole situation. And why the rest of the seats in this court are vacant? Probably it would be better if the whole instable situation could be resolved soon.

Regardless of the outcome for the moment a message has been sent that the Korean people wish for Democracy to prevail, so let the process continue while the people continue to make their voices heard. Many Democracies around the world are being tested as Political Parties can subvert the rule of law by not upholding the constitutions, leaving it to the courts however the courts are also becoming biased. South Korea i believe will be fine when this is over and Democracy is reaffirmed, it is the future of Democracy in the world that worries me as freedom was obtained by payment in blood, too easily lost or given away. Cheers.

Have all the judges of the Constitutional Court of SK, that will be dealing with this impeachment, been appointed by the current President? If so, how probable is it that they will actually vote unanimously? And if they are not able to have an unanimous voting, what are further possible paths? Is it possible that the current President in fact will not be impeached until the end of his term?
@average_korean_manАй бұрын
I believe 2 are appointed by the president, but I'm not sure about it. There is always a possibility to everything.
