@@chewy99. yeah it's one of the things that really annoyed me about fallen order. It's supposed to be only five years after ROTS but everything is pulled from the rebels era or the original trilogy (tie interceptors, rebels at-ats, only isd-I's), like come on show us some cool stopgaps on the way. Agreed, my favorite era other than the KOTOR2 post-purge era
@VestedUTuber7 ай бұрын
@@coltnichols4502 That's because Fallen Order is based on DisneyCanon where all the Imperial hardware basically just magically appeared out of thin air to replace all of the Clone Wars hardware literally the day after Palpatine declared the Empire. Legends was a lot better with this since in that continuity the Empire still used Acclimators and Venators early on, with the only distinctively Imperial ships around at the start being the Victory I Star Destroyer and Belator Dreadnought. And even those ships had an excuse - the Victory I was first produced at Byss as part of a secret project, and first deployed at the Battle of Coruscant. And the Belator is really just a Mandator II refit with very little visual distinction from its predecessor.

Having multiple prototype variants kinda reminds me a bit of Northrop's Tigershark. The first prototype had the F-5E canopy, as well as not having a fully functional avionics suite. Later on in life, the second and third prototpes appeared (with the larger canopies), and the first prototype was later fitted with the proper radar and INS.

Very nice - as always. Perhaps the reason that the single piece bubble canopy was replaced could be to allow for sections of the canopy to be replaced individually as they were damaged. The cost saving could be significant when scaled up to a massive fleet of fighters.

@boobah56432 жыл бұрын
How often would a TIE survive in a situation where the canopy is damaged? Since the pilots are on suit-based life support, you're not too worried about decompression, but it isn't as if a TIE fits any useful definition of 'sturdy.' And directly behind that canopy is the pilot; anything that penetrates the canopy is probably going to make the pilot's day in the worst possible fashion.

In a way, it looks similar to some "uglies." Most notably, the opposite of the infamously horrible "Die Wing" (a Tie cockpit with Y wing engines attached). The reverse, a Y wing with its engines replaced by the Tie fighter's wings (and presumably some ion drives) was actually one of the better performing "uglies" as it had fairly good speed while still keeping the defensive strengths and shielding of the Y wing fuselage. Some say that it actually out-performs a base Y-wing despite the incompatibility penalty, simply because it is adding newer and more advanced drive technology to the Y wing's main body. A Y wing with Tie fighter wings also just happens to have a similar appearance to the idea of a snub nose body with Tie-style wings. That said, the V-wing seems to inherit a portion of the "sausage style Tie" idea.

Well, there are reports of uglies that make use of the Y-wing body with Tie wings and engines, which happen to fit the basic overall look fairly well. I have a personal Star Wars story I'm writing with the last serious separatist world holding out with a droid army/navy against the newly formed Empire. a large amount of the story is the prolonged battle between the Imperial Clone forces and the droid army/local militia, at the end Tarkin arrives with a second wave fleet of Victory Class Star Destroyers deploying prototype TIE fighters which obliterate the remaining forces sort of a foreshadowing change into the iconography of the empire we know. However I picture the TIEs when first made used as sort of a rapid fire (machine gun like) fighter that mowed down opponents while also being speed demons but because of the cost, they diminished their fire power and easy maneuverability.

Akin to Sienar Fleet System's fighter craft division starting it's development in-house without the Republic commissioning another development program for another fighter. This can happen in the West with it's company run R&D aviation companies if they're big enough to sink collateral into testbed planes. And in the era of the Clone Wars I could see that happening. So much military procurement Credits being bandied helping companies have enough liquidity to do stuff like this more easily.
